My First Grow Log...Comments Appreciated!
:smokin:
I would like to start off this thread by saying thank you to everyone on cannabis.com who has helped me make this possible: Thank you! I have gotten alot of help from Mistyganjatree, BobBong, Carisma, and Black Bliss over the past couple weeks and I appreciate it alot.
I need to preface this grow log by saying I started the plants outside for the first three weeks. I didn't really expect to get so serious about growing, but after I found these message boards something kicked in my brain. I am now on a "mission from God", so to speak. Either way, I started out the plants in smaller pots and let them sit outside until the box was complete, and then I transplanted into the pots you see now and stuck them in the box. :D I haven't had too many problems, I think except one of the plants can't seem to get over it's yellowing leaves issue. Seems like all the green is going to the top of the plant because this particular plant is a much darker green at the top than the others.
Either way, I should also let you know this is my first grow and I am just using some bagseed. I have noticed that my plants do not seem as bushy as others I have seen on the boards, but I think it is probably due to the fact they were started outside, and we don't have the greatest of weather 'round these parts. I am thinking about giving them a couple more days of veg, and then just flowering, but I am not really sure.
Here are the details:
115 cm. long, 75 cm. deep, 150 cm. high
7--90 cm. Phillips Fl. lights. (Veg. 6100K, 2175 lumens, 30 watt)
(Flowering--2900K, 2175 lumens, 30 watt)---for flowering I plan on using 5 2900K lights and leave the other two 6100K
18/6 light cycle at the moment
Temps. 77-84 F (It fluctuates during the day and night)
Also, before you post any comments, I am working on the light leak problem right now and plan to have it fixed before I flower.
Thanks for any input! :smokin:

As I said earlier, I have this one plant that always seems to have yellowing leaves. I have fed it some 20-20-20 nutes just like the other plants, but this one continues to grow yellow towards the bottom and more dark green on top than the others...why?
Either way, I also wanted to note that I know I made the mistake of having two or three plants in one pot in a couple of the pots. They all started out strong and haven't had many problems thus far, so I figured let it go and see what happens. Learn from experience.

Hi Binz,
they look pretty, apart from some yellowing of lower leaves.
As stated in the chat, I'd give them some side lighting and remove the big side fl you currently have as the plants will grow nowhere near that big.
Adding another fl on the back and on each side at plants level would sure help a bit.
Keep up the good work!
Just my 0.02$
Cheers,
Carisma

I've found foliar feeding in veg with an organic grow mix. Helps yellowing and stress alot.
I will always foliar feed in veg for now on.
And early flowering too.
I use a little of the pure blend pro grow in a spray bottle.

I have been spraying them down every couple days with a 20-20-20 mix. I can't find the name brand nutes out here so I have to go by the N-P-K numbers I see on the box. Is 20-20-20 suitable for veg? It seems I have seen more than a few logs who use this ratio.
Also, I am going out tomorrow to fix the lighting for the sides of my box. I will add three 60 cm. fl tubes to the side if all goes as planned. :smokin:
Thanks for the feeback guys! :smokin:

Hey all! :smokin:
I changed my lighting system a little bit today. I took out the original 90 cm. fl tube I had installed on the side and replaced it with three 60 cm. tubes at 6100K (daylight). The tubes mounted to the hanging board are 5600K (as far as I remember---cool white). So, I now have a total of 8 fl's lights in there generating 13, 965 lumens. That's just a little over 2,000 lumens per square foot for my growing area.
I also fixed the side intake and exhaust to be as lightproof as I could get them while still retaining maxium air circulation inside the box.
As you can also see, I lightproofed the gaps in the box using black aquarium filter cut into strips and wedged into the openings.
This box is about as lightproof as it will ever get.

I also installed an air conditioner to regulate the temperature of the room thus regulating the temperature of the air that my intake fan is sucking into the box in an effort to keep the temperature in the box between 77-80 F. So far it has been working quite well.
I also took a picture of the door to my grow room and the window. These pictures were taken at about 2:00 pm my time and as you can see there is hardly any light coming into this room at all.
Also included is a picture of the filter I used to block out excess light coming from the box and a picture of the chain system I am using to raise/lower the lights.

Here are some pictures of my plants. I am going to go ahead and start flowering on Monday.
Some of the plants are much taller than others and this is probably because one batch was started a week earlier than the other batch and the plants in the smaller pots are using a different kind of soil (trying to experiment a little). I have also noticed the plants in the smaller pots are developing a sort of reddish-purplish color on the stems near the top of the plant. What could this be?
I am still having a problem with the lower leaves turning yellow. I fed them some nutes last night (20-20-20), so I am hoping it will clear up the problem in a day or two. I don't want to give them too many nutes though because I am afraid of "nute burn".

The installation of the side lighting has improved my grow dramatically. I can easily see the results even after only a day and a half. I will post more pictures on Monday.

Jdog 7000, I seem to find conflicting information about what strength nutes to give during flowering. What do you recommend?
-
My First Grow Log...Comments Appreciated!
During flower is a different story.
That forula is for veg.
The flowering nutes will be something like this...15-40-40
Anything for flowering around those numbers will work.
If you can get Foxfarm or Pure Blend Pro(organic) Those are the best for MJ.

It sure is an artistic looking setup...but am I seeing double or do you have two plants in some pots? C'mon, Binz, you know the rule on that...
Keep up the great work.

9ski9, I know I shouldn't put two plants in one pot, but I started them outside in small pots and hadn't done the appropriate research at that point. By the time I got to transplanting, the roots were hopelessly entangled. Do you think I should just kill the stronger of the two after I determine sex? They seem to be doing alright now, but I heard I may have problems during flowering.
Thanks! :stoned:

Thanks for the reply JDog7000, I'll be sure to start the hunt for a 15-40-40 fertilizer soon! What about administration during flowering? I also tend to get different reports from different people. What's your opinion?

Yes. I would make the killings today, though, and hope for the best.

Here are some pictures I took today. :smokin:
Some of the plants are growing much faster than others since I planted more than one in a few of the pots. I think I will take your advice, 9Ski9, and kill off all the weaker ones tonight because I plant to attempt flowering soon.
I was also wondering if I should try to LST some of the taller plants...or is it too late??
Off to do some research!

They are at about week 4/5 of veg.

Looking good! Can't wait to seem them mature!
-
My First Grow Log...Comments Appreciated!
Ok, so I killed the weakest plants so now each pot only has one plant. :stoned:
I also had to start LST'ing some of the plants because they were getting too tall. I really didn't plan on doing LST for this grow because I wanted to get all the basics of growing down pat before I attempted any such technique, but the lack of room and the uneven canopy forced me to LST.
I tied them down yesterday night, and when I woke up this morning and took a peek the plants had already begun to turn back up towards the light in a big way. HOT DAMN!!!! These plants sure grow fast.
Also of note, I have switched from veg to flower and have found some nutes high in P that I will begin to administer in a couple days.
Please tell me what you think! :D
Thanks!:smokin:

Here are some pictures I took today of my plants.
What do you think is wrong some of the bottom leaves? Not only are they yellowing but also some of them have large brown spots! I think maybe its because I foilar feed them a week or so ago and the nutes burned into the leaf because of the heat from the lights, but I dont know... Any opinions or advice is very welcome.
They are in day four of flowering. From everything I have read, I am guessing I will be able to tell sex in a few more days. I can't wait to free up some of that space and some of those rays! :stoned:
Thanks!

I am thinking that I am trying to grow WAY too many plants in this box. I am thinking about taking out the six weakest plants and transplanting them to somewhere outdoors.
Any opinions? suggestions? comments? What do you think I should do?
Thanks!

Don't forget you still have to sex and get rid of the females.
So grow them till you sex em.
Then pick which to keep.
And if there are any extra's.
Then put them outside.
The yellow leaf is normal.
