Is this a nute deficiency or a bug problem?

I thought it was a bug problem at first, so I snipped the lower fan leaves off. All was fine for a few days, then I get the same symptoms on the next set of leaves.
Its only affecting the larger fan leaves though, not the new growth. Anyone know what this is and how I fix it before it gets worse? Im planning to transplant her into a larger pot later in a few hours.
Edit: first pic was day 14. Second and third pic are day 20. Ive ruled out heat stress because none of the other plants are showing these signs. Last two pics were taken just now (day 21 I think)

What is the ph it looks more like a nutrient lock out problem. I bet they are dry and crisp too hu?

does look like nute problem, but a transplant would help seriously, other than that, could be not enough light to the lower leaves? more than likely its from a nute def of some sort, just re pot it in a big pot and water it with plain water, if after a few days the plant still looks rough(the transplant sometimes freaks them out), give nutes the small amount of soil in your current pot could be causing nute lock-up, so new soil in big pot should balance it out.

Its now repotted with lots of perlite aswell (always a good thing) :)
As for the pH... no idea. Still havent got round to buying a pH meter. Ill probably get one off eBay later on. Yes, they were dry and crisp aswell. Ive been using filtered tapwater for this, and our area has 'hard water' so its quite alkaline. Would it be a good idea to use rainwater and tapwater alternately? It begun when I started using MG ferts, 15-30-15. Could that have been the problem? Before repotting I flushed with plain water.

Well i know that they need more nitrogen in this stage, i think that npk solution is not the proper one for veg stage you should have something with more N than P. I had 3.5-1-5.5(BioVega) and it worked perfect in veg stage, i never lost a single leaf. It was my first grow so im not some kind of profesional but from all the help and reading i always read that you need more N than P for veg. I think you should give them only water for the next couple waterings and see what happends, if you can buy them botled PH balanced water.

Hello Tom :) ............... If the problem continues you might want to try re-potting again using Levingtons multi purpose compost and then just keeping it to plain water for a few days ;).

I can't promise it will slove the problem but I swicthed to levingtons after the rust problem at the beinging of my present grow and I'm pretty immpressed with it :)

You are correct it's the MG crap.

I thought MG ferts were OK to use, just that the soil is bad?

sorry bro.....there are some that still use that crap but they water it down and add other products. Most of them just feed at like 1/4 to 1/2 strength. What a wast that is to me. There are many quality nutrients available for a fair price that are designed to grow this plant.

Most commercially available fertilizers are meant for fertilizing plants grown in soil and do not contain all the necessary trace elements. Special fertilizers contain all those trace elements, and are also made to be very soluble so that the plants can easily uptake the nutrients from the watering solution. Those other fertilizers will work to grow some plants but they cannot compare to the results you will experience with the proper nutrients. Most commercially available fertilizers are like junk food for your plants giving you quick results that do not last very long then burn out.


Miracle Grow is not for dichotomous short day resin producing plants.

ph balance and minim ph knowledge is the corner stone of sucessful growing...

simple yet extremely effctive liquid drop ph testers can be pruchased for 5 dollars...

Ive got the pH problem sorted now - should be getting a pH tester through the post in a few days (just a cheap one mind, but it does the job). Ill get some decent ferts next week aswell, are the Canna Terra ones OK to use because theyre the ones that are most readily available to me.
