Did he just say " you cant hug that TAR BABY"?
OMG what................lol
he said what the pres did is "he didnt commit to specifics" he just said that
this is good... I knew nothing would change and he'd be the target for everything... I love wacthing these and am so glad that he's starting them agian... it was tough not having scotty in there for a while...
He is getting his ass handed to him..........in that press briefing.
they were laughing at him not with him funny stuff on cnn
oh it's like that everyday... that's why I love watching c-span... they do that all the time
I feel for him being a cancer survivor, but come on.....
i would like to see Jim Carey do a Padrody of him...
I got a feeling there will be a joke or two about him on the Daily Show and Colbert Report.. and I know Countdown will haev a great piece on him...
The cancer is a horrible thing and I do feel greatly for him with that.. I do believe there should be a seperation between him personally and his job... Much like Scotty... resepct him as a person, but he did the same thing and it gets old... people want to know what our government is doing and it is their job to tell us... the No Comment, I can't talk about that and it's classified shit is getting really old really fast...
But oh well.. still good to see him starting... I should be a few good weeks getting hiim settled in
i mean seriously, did he say TAR BABY?
do you hear him get asked that agian?? they asked him a second time to make sure he said tar baby... and he did... said it was 'american folklore' ... I'm pretty sure that's what he said... that's great...

: : At a meeting recently, someone used the phrase "tar baby." I am interested in knowing its meaning and origin.
: TAR BABY -- A sticky situation. "Something from which it is nearly impossible to extricate oneself. In Joel Chandler Harris' famous 'Uncle Remus' children's stories ( go to http://xroads.virginia.edu/~UG97/remus/tar-baby.html ), the tar baby is a doll covered with tar. Brer Rabbit comes by and speaks to it, but the tar baby doesn't answer; Brer Rabbit gets angry and hits the tar baby, and sticks to it. The more Brer Rabbit struggles to get free, the tighter he sticks to the tar baby. The term in use, by Richard T. Cooper in the 'Los Angeles Times,' April 21, 1996: 'Far from bestriding the Washington scene like a master or painting Clinton into corners, Dole last week looked a lot like the rabbit who wrestled with the tar baby.'." From "Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of Allusions" by Elizabeth Webber and Mike Feinsilber (Merriam-Webster, Springfield, Mass., 1999).
The tar baby is a form of a character widespread in African folklore. In various folktales, gum, wax, or other sticky material is used to trap a person.
The folktale achieved currency in the United States in written form in one of Joel Chandler Harris's Uncle Remus stories....
This story has led to the figurative use of tar baby in the sense 'an inextricable problem or situation', sometimes with the nuance 'something used to entrap a person'....
The expression tar baby is also used occasionally as a derogatory term for black people (in the U.S. it refers to African-Americans; in New Zealand it refers to Maoris), or among blacks as a term for a particularly dark-skinned person. As a result, some people suggest avoiding the use of the term in any context.
From The Mavens' Word of the Day (12 Feb 1999) at http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/inde...?date=19990212
----------
Before Johnson fell for the tar baby of Vietnam, Americans believed their Presidents almost always told them the truth. (Lance Morrow, "Nation: The Whole World Was Watching When the Democrats Last Convened in Chicago," Time, 26 Aug 1996)
I would just use another word................
I honestly have never heard the term used before... but I thought those two things when it came out... either a sticky situation or a black person... but knew he meant the first.
I agree he could have just chosen a better word, but I do hope they don't make fun of him too much for this.. it'll just set the bar that much higher, plus it was his first day - blame it on a Freudian slip...
