Guide To Self-Induced Trance

NOTE: I posted this in the lounge, but now that I think of it, the spirituality forum seems like a more appropriate place. perhapse spirituality forum-goers would understand this on a more spiritual level anyway.

Hello cannabis.com friends . I've been meaning to share this with you all for a little while now, and since I have a request from another thread now, I'll finally make this thread.

Anywhoo, I've discovered a most remarkable technique in which you can induce a powerfull trance on yourself, drug-free, usually in a minute or so. You don't need any prior meditation experience, and I don't think I'd even call this meditation, just something that's as good as any drug! You'll feel like you're at a higher level of consciousness, your body and mind will increase 3x in energy, and you'll feel remarkably clear-thinking and happy. I've actually managed to lift my depression (over being in constant pain every waking moment) since learning this, I've had tons of energy and have been more active than ever, and I even have a degree of pain-relief after doing this. But I'll get to the point already...

In ancient Hawahii (sp?), there were a group of shamans called the "Huna". The only available mind-altering drug was Kavakava, which is nice but nothing compared to peyote or other hallucinogens (you can buy it legally btw). This shamanic group wanted to develope a technique in which one could enter a state of trance and enter higher realms of existence relatively quickly, so one didn't have to spend several days fasting, meditating, etc etc. Since I've learned this surprisingly effective method, I'll share it with you all now, and encourage everybody to try it.

Instructions:

Sit somewhere quiet in a comfortable possition. I preferre cross-legged on the couch, since it gives all the back support and I can fully relax.
Now, calm your thoughts as much as possible, but don't beat yourself up if you can't, it'll come on it's own. Look upwards, so you can see your eyebrows in your vision, and hold your eyes there. Focus on the point at the centre of your upward vision, then gradually shift your awareness so you notice your central and peripheral vision equally, but don't move your eyes to look directly at everything you're focused on.
Now while in this possition, open your mouth and keep it open. When you breath in, close the airway to your throat with the back of your tongue and breath in through your nose, getting full, slow, and deep breaths. When you exhale, breath out through your mouth taking twice as long as it took you to breath in. While exhaling, do a semi-loud whisper of "Haaaaaa" all the way out.
Repeat this without breaking the method, and you'll notice the effects relatively soon (like a minute). Your eyes may cross or shift in some way, mixing up your vision, which is fine. Don't worry about the results during the practice, just relax and keep going as long as you want.

Believe it or not this is like a trip in itself, and also makes meditation extremely easier afterward if you so choose. You don't have to take my word for it, just try it and you'll understand.

hm interesting. i messed around alot with the brainwave generator but once i finally reached trance state and almost blacked out sitting at my computer, i wondered if this was safe stuff and kinda left it alone after that lol. ill try this soon tho, im not quite sure i understand it exactly...

yea look it up on google. its basically these weird sounds that you play though headphones and it does weird shit to you, hard to explain.

hmmmm, not sure how else to word it, but I'll try....

you're at the point where you're eyes are looking upward. The middle of the top of your vision is the point you're focused on. Normally your brain focuses on what your eyes are focused on, that being the middle of your vision; but instead be equally aware of everything at the sides of your vision as what you see in the middle of your vision. But, don't move your eyes around to look directly at everything, just maintain your view on the centre, while still noticing the sides and centre equally.

that's about the only way other way I can think of describing it, hope that helps.

Ya like IDoser, I wanted to try it but it didnt work and I gave up on it.

Actually I tried Idoser a couple months ago, just didn't realize it was a brainwave whatchamacallit. Didn't do a thing though.

wow that's weird looking at the shape of your eye sockets like that, i feel like an owl or something.

pretty cool effects, you just gotta try to be aware of everything in your vision. my vision kept kinda "twitching" every so often, so maybe there was too much tension in my eyebrows (being raised) or my eyes (trying to look to high up). i'm not sure if i understand this part:

"When you breath in, close the airway to your throat with the back of your tongue" -- how do you do that? I mean I can breathe in with just my nose, but the tongue thing is weird.

Anyway I wasn't sure if it had worked at first when I stopped after a minute or so... until my dad entered the room and started talking to me and all of a sudden I realized I was feeling really high ;)

All in all though, I think I prefer regular meditation. This technique was interesting and I'll try it again, but I feel like there was too much muscular tension in my face from trying to do it right; in my jaw and eyes and forehead, like I was trying to stretch my face too long.

hmmmm, you seem to be taking things a bit too far. you shouldn't be raising your eyebrows, or straining any part of the facial muscles. you're just looking upward with your eyeballs alone. also when you open your mouth, it only has to be enough to breath, you shouldn't hold up so open that your jaw gets sore.

as for the airway, what I mean is just press the back of your tongue up and it'll press against the top of your throat, thus cutting off the airway.

so anyway, just remember not to tense any muscles and try to stay mentally relaxed. glad to hear a positive result from somebody :) .

What causes this pain and how long does it take to get passed this point?

Maybe like me you were straining yourself too hard in some way, like maybe breathing too hard. Try toning it down a little, relax to the point where you're no longer getting this pain.

With ANY form of meditation, the most important thing is not to worry about whether you're doing it right, not to judge yourself if you're getting off track or if you think "nothing's happening," etc. This seems to be the sort of technique that calms your body down first, enabling you gradually and automatically to stop "thinking about stuff." But thinking a lot is a common problem for anyone not used to letting go of thoughts. Every time a thought arises, just notice it, and nonjudgementally bring yourself back to the "task" at hand (paying attention to your vision, to your breath, whatever it may be).

Thinking about whether you're doing it right can become just another THOUGHT (obviously) and just another distraction. Don't let it affect you too much because any technique, if you are focusing on one aspect of your experience, can have beneficial effects, whether you are doing it the same as other people or not. And remember that EVERY thought must be forgotten, and let go of, eventually... so why not right now?

Also, how are you breathing? and were you talking about the trance in this thread or regular meditation?

Yes every thought should be forgotten but how do you achieve that?Everytime I try I just keep thinking of bad stuff and the pain is more a pain of sadness not a pain caused physically.I'm sorry this is deep and not what you are really talking about here.I thank you for replying to me and will try it on a good day.

I'm sorry to hear that you're depressed. Meditation is definitely more difficult at times like that. Maybe rather than this technique you should try something simpler. Just sit with your eyes closed and "follow your breath," some people like to try counting at first. In-breath one, out-breath two, three, four, then start over when you get to ten or so.

I don't know what's bothering so I don't know how to help you. Breathe really deep and long while focusing your attention on the very tip of your nostrils where air comes in and out. Sometimes doing yoga first prepares the body, like doing a headstand if you can. You'd be surprised how much of the tension and frustration is in the BODY. I really hope you feel better.

A common technique is to imagine yourself drawing a triangle and try to see it in your mind, then write the letter A in the middle of the circle , once you have done this then you take a cloth and wipe the whole thing away leaving a blank . Repeat this until all you are concentrating on is the space in your mind and the number , each time you wipe away the number you say to yourself that you are wiping your mind clean and this is relaxing , as you convince your subconcious of this you will find it easier to achieve relaxation.

Simple techniques work best.

I guess it's just mental baggage and I need to learn to let go before I can begin to feel better.I have thought about hypnosis but it is not something I would feel comfortable doing to myself and I think it would be harder then meditation.

^^^the first time I tried a mantra I found it really effective for some reason. Different things work for each person. I was being given a quick lesson in jyoti (sp?) meditation. The professor just said to think of any word you want (it need not be a "divine" name or anything but I just picked Krishna randomly), and say it silently to yourself on the outbreath. Let the mind be fully concentrated on that, and the rest of your experience seems to come into sharper focus around it, at least it worked for me. The most important part is not to have any expectation or do it for any purpose.

I go into trance like states before sleep. Last night I thought I was attacked, thrown to the ground from my bed and kicked around. I then opened my eyes and found that I was dreaming.

Maybe ten minutes later, I was projecting myself through different landscapes with "someone" and everytime the scenery changed I could feel it change with me... It looked like a big topographical motif and I was completely immersed in travelling with no concern of my previous life. A very profound sleep induced trance I went through last night... usually it's not so much. I then actually fell asleep and dreamt a fucked up dream... there was humping, gashes on the neck, running away on foot from two cars uphill... and there was Death playing through my head. It was an awesome dream.

I wanna try it, but ive got a bad cold, and my nose is really stuffed up.

Will it work without that part?

i dont knoiw about a trip, but i lost all perception of time whilst doing it, and when i stopped then i felt really mellowed out.

thanks mr devious i get that part now but how do you know when youve reached its maximum effects?

Interesting....I started doing Tai Chi and I found that when I disfocus my eyes while doing it some really strange things happen. I'm kinda skeptical that this Chi force exists but when I really can feel things going on--like Chi is flowing through me.
When I say disfocusing I think I'm slightly crossing my eyes. Anyway, it's very similar to what you're describing. Maybe when your whole world isn't channeled through your eyes your mind turns inward and certain brain chemicals are released? I'm not sure...still thinking about it. Seems like this could be a powerful personal tool in some way. Therapeutic at least.

People who say they can't function without weed are very seriously depressed and abusing themselves and the plant. That's not good, you are the reason it's illegal.

I'll try this though, it sounds good.

The technique mentioned in this thread is a basic form of breath meditation and thier is no big surprise to me about it changeing your life for the better meditation is the best way to learn and relax and as far as the fellow messing with the brainwave generator when u stated to black out that could of been the start a a real fun obe just dont get scared and pay attention to your breathing and nothing bad will happen to you

I have practiced meditation for some while now, and have found amazing results.. I have recently been able to enter a state where my eyes enter a REM state mode, while Im still techiniqually awake, and I start to see some interesting visions...I know it sounds kinda odd...I think I have a lot more to progress in though because I usually get kinda freaked out and then stop.

Meditation, Mantra, Astral Projection...I can honestly say these things are real, and powerful, and tools that all mankind should use for personal revelation.

Hi Fan. There's a problem with some forms of meditation in that they can lead you into a blank, passing out state quite easily if you do them wrongly. You can actually turn off the thinking part of your brain more easily than you'd imagine, which despite what some forms will tell you, isn't the right way to go. An indicator of doing it in the wrong way is that when you go into, or just come out of, this state that you feel sick and have a headache. I've done it accidentally maybe 4 or 5 times, and once the effects lasted for over a week. Awareness (or 'Mindfulness') has to remain.

Think of meditation as not going somewhere, or trying to reach a new state, but uncovering a state that's already present as the basis of your own mind.
It's like suddenly finding a new 'room' in your mind that you never knew you had, rather than moving away from this reality to some idea of Nirvana. In our view, all is (veeeery broadly speaking) one, so negating or trying to transcend or get rid of your normal conscious mind is negating a part of your true self.
