Gamers.... introducing the 'Wii'
So have you gamers seen that nintendo renamed the revolution as the Nintendo Wii? It's true, the gaming community has known for awhile that the event was coming but nobody thought it was going to be this, uhm, bizarre?
How do you smoking gamers feel about the name change eh? There has been a mega backlash in the community against nintendo, personally I find it not that big of a deal, a name doesnt make a console unless you are too narrowminded to see past that. The name really isnt that bad in my opinion but nintendo I think really made a big mistake.

Yeah, I heard that yesterday myself...All I could think was Wii? Like Weeeeee? Silly name, the specs still sound like it's going to be an intresting console though.
-

I think Revolution was a lot better and made more sense than "Wii", but as you said a name doesn't really matter. However it would be nice it nintendo could get off their ass and actually give us some real information already.
Personally though, I'm not getting it, I'll be grabbing an Xbox360. Nintendo has just thoroughly disappointed me with the endless barrage of kiddie games, and the incredible lack of history making games on the gamecube (IE final fantasy, Halo, Knights of the old republic, Morrowind). I mean other systems are releasing great epics and ground-breakers, nintendo keeps releasing "mario party 7!" "pokemon super happy fun smiley hour!". everything is just Big wacky get 10 friends together and have fun fun FUN!!!. And I don't care how revolutionary they think the remote is, and I don't know if it'll even work well, but a contoller with 2 sticks worked fine for me, allowed me to do anything with 100% ease.

That's what I like about Nintendo...they don't take themselves so seriously. It's a kind-of nostalgic sort-of feeling. Kinda like still having my old NES system from when I was a kid I guess...
-
Gamers.... introducing the 'Wii'
stupid name but i couldnt care less for nintendo.. im sure they did it for a reason(people whod object to the name wouldnt of bought one whatever its called, and quite possibly more kids and geeky adults would be more likely to buy it) nintendos recent consoles are for kiddys(and are just generally shit anyway) this move just confirmed it!

Understandable, but it's still caterring to a limited audience. Fun is fun, but you'd think they could give us at least one ground-breaking epic that takes months to fully explore, finish, and experiment with ways to interact with your world.
-
Gamers.... introducing the 'Wii'
Man, what's with all the Nintendo hating in up in here? :(
-
Gamers.... introducing the 'Wii'
I dunno. I don't have a gamecube but resident evil 4 was supposed to be a kickass game that was gamecube only for a while. I'm interested more in the new controller. It may be the deciding factor along with the game library. I think I'll wait for all the next gen consoles to come out before deciding.

I've heard (though I haven't hunted them out) that there ARE actually some pretty in-depth RPGs for the gamecube (I'd have to call my little brother to ask what the title was, lol)...just nothing that got promoted really heavily. They DID bring out RE4 for it though...and the special edition controller for it was pretty sweet.

Nintendo has fell off the planet for some time now to me anyway, I still remembering waiting for the then *ultra 64* because final fantasy was going to be on it *my fav series* The min it was announced that it would be released for PSX....Well lets just say ive ownd a ps1 and ps2 and will have a ps3 once its released.
Im not a fanboy tho, i have 2 younger brothers who also game and they seem to get the other systems, nintendo/microsoft so all in all i get to play every system, there all good in there own way.
-
Gamers.... introducing the 'Wii'
theres a whole lot of fanboys in here hehe
I will be buying a nintendo DS soon, final fantasy III in 3D? droooooool
nintendo succeeds in innovation where many companies fall way behind. I dont think i will buy a 'wii' untill i play it myself.
-
Gamers.... introducing the 'Wii'
To be fair to them Nintendo does at least put effort into the development of their systems with things like the DS and the new controlling idea, its just a shame they haven't taken off. Maybe its due to lack of software support or bad marketing I don't know.
However I've alot of fond memorys from over the years playing Nes, Snes etc. and no matter how good Halo or any other modern game is its hard to beat something like Mario Kart for sheer entertainment and getting a few mates shouting at the T.V.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but last-minute name changes are common in nintendo. The 64 was code named revolution. The Gamecube was called the Dolphin up to a few months before release. Just the way they roll I guess.

This ones details have been released under the name revolution (aparently as well) up until now...so unless they're going to release info under two project names, and then change it again (they certainly COULD, I wouldn't put it past them) Wii, it will be.

I read an interesting article today, you can find it on /.'s Wii coverage.
Anyways, the guy basically stated why the "Wii" """problem""" was only an internet problem.
On the internet, is where people are bitchin' about the name.
WTF? Who the fuck cares? They're going to sell shitloads, no doubt. Independently of the name.

'tis true. If we judged things by name alone, the chia pet would cease to exist.

i just have one quiestion about the name change..... Wii? ;)
anyway think i'll probably go with the next "station".... and they could call it "Peice of Shit 3" for all i care i'll still go and buy one.... after the price drop ;) :D

Here is an interesting look on the situation: http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/punkd/d...wii-170381.php
Some of Manning's reasoning makes perfect sense.
More interesting, the name hasnt been trademarked yet! Hmmmmm *strokes his chin*

I like your way of thinking...
-
Gamers.... introducing the 'Wii'
It's not like we're not allowed to call it the Revo still. I would prefer Nintendo Go over Nintendo Wii: they wanted an easy short name, but Wii can be made fun of (Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!) in more situations ("Nintendo Go" fuck yourself may be funny but try saying that in front of your mom).
-
Gamers.... introducing the 'Wii'
Supposedly, the two "i"s stand for,.... get this... two people.
Wii
Can you see it?
Wii.... it's EVERYTHING!
Wii can't you go to the store and buy me some beer?
Wii! We won!
Wii, the people, claim that our president is a moron.

Gamers.... introducing the 'Wii'
For the record, I'm no nintendo hater, I just play what is best and since gamecube they've fallen flat (I know because I own a gamecube with about 10 games, then I got an xbox and realized how comparatively weak those games are). I LOVED the N64, it was an awsome system. I don't care who tries to argue it, N64 had supperior graphics to playstation easily. Plus Goldeneye was one of the greatest games ever released, Perfect Dark was a great follow up, and Zelda: Ocorina of Time was AMAZING. A shame how they made the gamecube Zelda a cartoon piece of shit, but the Twilight Princess looks like it'll actually be the best Zelda game yet, so I'll be getting it.
oh, and Mario Cart 64 was damn fun, it still is to this day.
-
Gamers.... introducing the 'Wii'
i acknowledge all systems points. For first person shooters you have to go with the xbox with its controller, it has more controllable thumbsticks for in game aiming, and i prefer the layout. but then in my opinion you cant beat the PS controller for fighting games. PS has gran turismo and Tekken, Xbox has Halo and something else haha... all systems are worth buying in my opinion. what money doesnt go to drugs goes to gaming systems.
for overall unique funness gamecube... you will never see more innovated uniqueness in other systems than what nintendo provides, although Katamari Damacy for the PS2 is pretty damn awesome
-
Gamers.... introducing the 'Wii'
With me, it is also about the games. I have a different opinion on what is good though. Most games either aren't worth playing regardless of what system they are on, or they are on every system. Because of this, I don't have to decide if I want to play certain games because they are on all consoles. My only decision is whether I want to play Super Smash Bros. Melee or GTA Vice City, and even though GTA is an awesome game, it's one player, which is 3 less than needed for people who have friends over.
If you think the Gamecube doesn't have good enough games, pick up a Nintendo Power. Along with normal games like FIFA and MLB, I read a review about a game called Odama: http://www.nintendo.com/gamemini?gam...e-f9cc96c02b1a
My thoughts on the N64 on similar. I played N64 more than PSX and even though I don't think I had a very good childhood at all, I can say that spending hours playing 4 player Goldeneye with my friend and his siblings listening to Blink 182, Korn and Papa Roach (no matter how dumb they are) was some of the best times of my life. I'm still playing SM64. I never played Perfect Dark though.

Ever play animal crossing for the gamecube? that right there is a good game, you just have to give it a chance. same with harvest moon!
-
Gamers.... introducing the 'Wii'
I can see the competitors ad campaigns now...
Why Wii?
I am an x-box fan myself. They seem to have more morpg's than any other system. One of my favorite things to do is smoke a bowl and kill my friends...and some balrogs.

GTA san andreas had two player capabilities, but u had to stay together, it'd be much more fun if u could do link up and roam the city streets and try to find each other lol.... a dogfight in the harriers woulda been cool lol

The thing is, consoles are more popular for just being able to pick up a controller and play. For instance, FPS on PC will always be better than Halo or even Goldeneye, but there's no installation required with them.
