No question that President Bush has regained some momentum in his quest to retain power. The Iraq war defense put forth by Rudy Giuliani and John McCain at the Republican convention actually silenced media critics for a few days, and the populist Arnold Schwarzenegger painted Mr. Bush as an effective, inclusive leader.
But world events have also helped the President. As terror rises all over the place, it becomes increasingly difficult for the Bush haters to diminish the President's own hatred for the "evil doers."

Iraqi terrorists slaughter a dozen waiters from Nepal. Chechen terrorists hold little children hostage and blow up two airliners. Even France was assaulted, as Islamic terrorists demanded that country rescind its ban on the wearing of headscarves in public schools. At this point, it is almost impossible to make a rational case against an aggressive war on Islamic fascism.

The people protesting the Republican Convention also helped Mr. Bush. With more than a thousand arrests, some cops badly injured, and innocent people harassed, the protestors are looked upon as fanatical and irrational by many Americans. And some of them are. A survey by The New York Sun newspaper found protestors favored a socialistic government more than any other. That kind of attitude is not a help to Senator Kerry.

Increasingly, the visible anti-Bush forces are defining themselves as way out there. A new Zogby poll found that almost half of New York City residents believe some in the Bush administration knew the USA would be attacked on 9/11, and did nothing to stop it. Of course, there's not a shred of verifiable evidence backing up that insane belief. New York City is overwhelmingly anti-Bush, and the rest of country is noticing the caliber of criticism. If I were making a movie about the irrational Bush haters, I would entitle it "Night of Living Dumb."

The fundamental problem with the anti-Bush zealots is that they desperately want to believe the President is a bad man, and will reject all rational discussion that goes against their thesis. That kind of fanaticism frightens mainstream American voters and creates sympathy for the President. Irrational displays will never win an election. Ask Howard Dean.

A few months ago, I wrote in this space that John Kerry would not be seen in public with the likes of Michael Moore and the other far left bomb throwers, and that has proven to be true. Mr. Kerry knows he must convince centrist voters to support him if he wants to win, and radicals like Moore alienate the center.

If you still don't believe me, consider this: Fox News and your humble correspondent have come under horrific attack from the radical left. But every time a smear book or movie comes out defaming us, our ratings go up. My television program "The O'Reilly Factor" easily won its timeslot in the cable news wars during the Democratic Convention, and we beat the opposition three to one during the Republican gathering. The more the crazies tell Americans that I am unfair and unbalanced, the more people tune in. Where do I send the gift?

So there has been a momentum shift towards the Bush camp that should last until the debates, which begin at the end of September. Those displays will mean more than all the protests, all the mud slinging and all the spin. Not since Kennedy-Nixon have Presidential debates been so crucial. I can't wait.

Irrational? Come on? The only thing Bush talks about is Terrorism. Try to see him speak 2 minutes without bringing it up. The war on Terror is cleary Propagana, or to put it bluntly....A diversion. To paraphrase that famous quote by Hermann Goring at the Nuemberg trials discussing how Hitler kept the masses under control....
'Its easy, all you have to do is tell the people they are being attacked and denounce the pacifist for being unpatriotic. It works the same in every country'
Now you say an attack on G.W is IRRATIONAL? Well, I say the War on terror is irrational. Do the Rational math.....Lets see...in 2000 nobody was killed in America by terrorists. In 2001 2500 people were killed.(less than 1% of a typical year of tobbaco related death) 2002 nobody 2003 nobody...you get the picture. Now if we are going to get all worked up and ridiculous lets have a 'War on Cancer' It going to get half of us. But for some irrational reason it only manages to get 2% of the money be are blowing on the paranoid terror war.
Instead we continue with this stupid fictional war that never can be won, fighting enemies that for the most part we created. While we do this we make the rest of the people on Earth in practically every nation hate us.

Bush creates terrorists.

Anyone who hates Freedom and Democratic goverments,is a potential terrorist-Bush doesn't create them-he brings em out of the shadows..terrorists are intent on taking Freedom away-not in giving it..I want these kinds of people to expose their true feelings-so that those of us who cherish Freedom-can rid the world of those who despise it.

That America has not had another major terrorist incident,speaks to Bush's competence as a Commander in Chief,as well as to the competence of the American people.

Think before you write TOROG, Bush was the president when it had its ONLY terrorist attack from a foreign enemy. How could the lack of another attack in the past three years prove anything? What about all those American heads that have been getting whacked off. Bush has done more to endanger the average American citizen than any other person. History will villify him.
America is not particularily free. Thats the kind of dogmatic shit that they start telling you when you are 5 years old. The Church of America.....Liberty and Justice for all....
I feel smothered when I'm there. Indeed, America is becoming a police state. You are seven times more likely to be put in jail in the states than in Canada or England. America has more people in prison than any other country.
What freedom are you referring to? Do you really believe that 911 happened because 'they hate our freedoms?? Do you think America has more freedom than say....Spain or Canada or Holland? (In some ways yes, but in other ways No)

I never so much freedom back home. You should get out and see the world a little bit. See how things look from the outside..

Yes, your are correct. My oversight. I should have said , significant attack. Seven people died I think in that attack. It doesn't alter the point, that is, Bush is doing nothing to keep the country safer, rather he is making it more dangerous.

Yup,I did a spell of roughnecking,in Saudia Arabia,so I know alot about the differences in 'freedom'-in Saudi,there was very little freedom and we were watched every time we left the villa.

I think that if you stood on a street corner in Beijeng,with your pound of wild marihoochie and bad-mouthed the commie leadership..you'd quickly find out-that China ain't so free or forgiving..freedom ain't measured by how much weed you can pick and git away with smoking.

When y'all anti-Bushies complain that he's making it more dangerous for Americans,it smacks of cowardice to me,that things would be all warm and fuzzy-if only we would stop making things more difficult for terrorists..are you advocating retreat in the face of the enemy ? That sounds like something the French or Germans would do,along with the rest of their euroweenie pals.

Bush has shifted the focus from the States to the middle-east,the terrorists are fighting us there-instead of the streets of America..which would you prefer ? As much as I would like to take out a few of them daggum terrorists,I'd prefer that they die on their streets-not ours.

I did not mean to suggest that the USA is the least Free place in the world. Certainly we are much more free than Saudi Arabia. That is a pretty extreme example. Maybe the worst place in the world. Its also heavily under the influence of US OIL companies who seem to care little about the state of human rights within the Kingdom. My take on Saudi is that its just none of our business what they do and we should try to make ourselves less dependent on their oil. Then we wont need to run over their culture. If we stay out the business of the Middle east, it will leave us alone. Then we won't need to fight anybody anywhere.
Chinese people can do just about anything as long as they keep their mouth shut and go along with the program. Generally speaking, People there have no interest in fighting the system. The media there is a joke. Blatant lies are told. Nobody cares.
Americans on the other hand can say whatever they like and protest whatever they like. As they have been doing this for a while, the powers to be have learned how to live with it, even benefit from it.
As G.W likes to say when he faces mass demonstrations......"Sure is nice to be in a place with so much freedom". He probably is doing a cost/benefit analysis in his head on how much his corporate pals are going to need to pony up to override not so silent minority.
Indeed, the freedom we are given is losing its bite. Those who do most of the protesting find themselves further and further from the center of the political spectrum. Thats because the establishment can always react to every outburst of social discontent with money. They have learned to work the system to a tee. They can say...."Go out and protest, "look at how free you are"

Of course We are always free to bitch to our hearts content, but who is listening? What difference does it make? As for our wonderfully free form of republican government.... the game is fixed. We have no reasonable control over who we get to vote for, Secondly we must compete with the 'average American dude'. he outnumbers the thinking man by 10-1.
But the average dude in America is too busy with his 9-5 job and his family to really know how to vote. He gets his education from the media. Not just the news media, but the entertainment media in which we learn our values.
Im glad to be American. I am proud of the origins of our country. But I realize that power always will be manipulated and that every country can go down the road of darkness. I am glad I have the freedoms I do, but I hardly think I can change the world.

i wouldn't bother discussing terrorism or 9/11 with torog. after all, he thinks 19 hijackers who had never flown jets somehow managed to use military precision flying maneuvers and crash jets into both of the twin towers. they were obviously, and provably, patsies of the us federal government and the military industrial complex who created a pearl harbor style attack.

but don't get into specifics, because then torog really lays on the neo-con (extremely liberal and communist) line, what he thinks is conservatism. when the truth is, torog is very liberal.

not to mention do it on the exact day that norad was conducting a drill of hijacked planes hitting buildings, used as a smokescreen for the air defense stand down. there's radio transmissions of the faa not knowing whether or not it was 'real world or exercise' when contacted by the atc.

but torog doesn't like to get into specifics regarding 911, because the facts of what happened that day don't matter. he needs a group to hate and bomb, and calls himself a christian while advocating the arrest as terrorists of those are against freedom and 'democracy' even though we are a republic, when he's the one who supports those who are taking his rights away.

911 was good for GW, thats for damn sure. Im 60-40 on whether it was a US gov/estabishment conspiracy. In all likelihood it was.
