Long term storage- shelf life
My first grow was successful beyond my wildest dreams! I now have 30 quart canning jars filled very good bud. How long can I expect this to last? I dried them for 2 weeks and they were very dry but not brittle going into the jars. They are stored in a dark unheated closet during the winter, but with summer coming on, it will get very warm there. Should I move them to the refrigerator? Suggestions? (No signs of mold or excess moisture) They started their storage 1st of January 2006

Keep it air tight and in a cool dark place they keep for years.

Thank you, for that welcome advice. Thanks to all the master growers out there. I could not have done this, without your help!

Decide how much you need until your next harvest, then sell off the excess. That's what I do, anyway.
Tell us about your grow. 30 quart canisters of bud is awesome!

If the bud keeps as long as I hope it will, it could last me to this time next year. It' VERY good bud. One-half a joint and I am completly WASTED! First grow-germinated 18 out 20 seeds, 13 out of 18 female. I didn't have room in my closet for 13 flowering plants, so I rotated half every 12 hours for 60 days WHEW! - that was a lot of work. I would do it again in a heartbeat

I could not weight it, no scales. 30 quart jars speak for themselves. Half is white widow- half white rhino.

I see that this is a very old thread but i thought id mention this in case it helps anyone.
i agree with what most of you are saying ref the ways to store your gear. i personally use the glass jar method we call them kilner jars here in scotland.
however if you are talking LONG term storage i.e years then i dont think jars is the best way, yes it would possibly work i just dont think its the best way.
ive been watching how our economy etc is going and am getting a bit concenred with the way the economy is going especially the price of food so i looked up on how to do some long term food storage. most of the vids i find are by folk expecting the worst and digging bunkers etc. this is another topic though.
anyways on my uratube travels i saw a way of storing dried foods (rice. grains etc) using food grade plastic buckets, mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. it is very very easy to do and there are loads of vids on how to do this on uratube just search long term food storage. this method keeps dried foods good for 25-30years, now i dont expect any true smokers to leave their stash that long if you do then im waaaay jealous of you, but if it keeps food in perfect condition for that long then surely it would keep your stash healthy for as long as you need it!
if anyone has anything to add then please do as i am thinking of trying this and maybe having one bucket full of smaller bags of different strains, and tucking it away for a rainy/shtf day.

Agree with BOTH METHODS.... "Canning", "Food Storage"..... 6 & 1/2 dozen so to speak but favor glass. I'll do Ball Jars any day of the week. Personally do not like petro-chemicals touching me bud! Yea, have 5 "Ball Jars" going & many more to come! Ur me hero Dutch!
