Can you recommend any good films?

I joined up for this Tesco DVD rental scheme where I pay 13 quid a month and I can order as many DVDs as I want and keep them for as long as I want.

Now, obviously I want to take the piss and get my moneys worth but I'd rather get recommendations than take a chance ordering random DVDs cos lets face it, most films are shite or just neutral :-/

So if you guys can recommend any movies you've seen I'd appreciate it.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Loved Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind...BUT there's a lot of potential for a person to dislike it, the plot is pretty out there, and it's kind-of sappy.

So-So on Chronicles of Narnia...It's visually nice, and stuck to what I knew of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (which isn't much, I've yet to sit down and read the series), but I just didn't really feel anything for the charecters.

What are some films you've loved? (For a better idea of what to recomend)

I like Goodfellas, The Cell, Pulp Fiction, Trainspotting, Sleepers, Lolita, American Beauty, all Disney films (to toke to)
Hate sloppy cheesy chick-flicks

Waiting is a really really funny movie... kinda gross out (it takes place behind the scenes of a chain restaurant) but hysterical when baked. :)

i just saw Robin Hood Men in Tights again. i forgot how hilarious that was if your in the mood for a comedy.

The Jackal with Bruce Willis as a freelance assasin and richard geere as an ex IRA sharpshooter with a grudge. great action/suspense movie also starring sydney portier.

I'm not saying I've got a large (eh ;)) collection or anything, but I can recommend (if you can zoom in on the pic) every single film you can see excluding to the right of the "Army Information Pack" box :p.. They're just PC games :)

Don't know if you'll love (or even like) everything on this list...but there should be at least one or two on here that work out. :)

I'm starting to loose interest in movies i think. I can't remember the last one that blew me away. I can't even remember the last one I watched :stoned:

It's the movie that inspired Hogans Heroes (I beleive). It's allways been up there as one of my all time favs. It's about a bunch of POWs in WWII who do everything they can to make life bearable while living a german prison camp. It's up there with the Shawshank Redemption. Another one of my all time greats.

Scarface is a classic for drama
Cheech and Chong Up in Smoke is a great comedy
Lost in Translation is a good artsy type film
To Live is a great foriegn film. It's in Chinese with subtitles but is definitely worth seeing. Pretty deep with lots of unexpected twists

Ooo Royal Rumble (the chinese/japanese.. oriental then, film with the kids having to kill each other) is a sweet film :D

I dunno. i thought that movie kinda sucks. I mean, theres a guy in a wheel chair, of course hes gonna get killed lol. Its not very long either, they get attacked by some hobbo, then some of them start disapearing as they get hacked to death, then some girl runs around screaming for half an hour. Then she gets on a truck and starts laughin as she escapes.... Its just too.... simple.

City of God is another awesome foriegn film about gangs in Brazil. Not your typical gang film though

Oldboy is my favorite movie. It's a South Korean flick about some dude who is kidnapped and put in a solitary prison without knowing who why how and is stuck there for 15 years going crazy and screaming and crying for vengeance against who put him in prison.
After 15 yrs, he is suddenly released on a rooftop with a cell phone and money and suit. He has 5 days to find out who imprisoned him and take revenge.

Most ultimate movie with great acting, great script, and amazing scenes.
People argue that America has Fight Club and Korea has Oldboy.
Another funny thing, Fight Club was my favorite movie until I saw Oldboy.

Seriously though. This director is new: Park Chan Wook.
Oldboy is a revolutionary film that will inspire many filmmakers (including me).
