I could do with a few Ideas ................
Hello :), I've put this on a seperate thread from the grow journal because I really do need as many Ideas, suggestions and help as I can get.
The leaves on the present grow seem to be going a horrible rusty colour and I seem to be coming to a "dead end" with everything I can think off.
Swizzy and Kush Over both suggest using Epsom Salts, which I intend to do as soon as I can get hold of some ................ affraid I can't get into town today to pick any up :(
So I'll just post a few pics of the spreading discolouration and if you can think of anything, or any ideas I'll be very gratefull :)
Oh by the way three of them are in different compost but it is affecting all the plants:(
Thankyou ............................. love mand xxx:)

mine look sorta like that too.... but all new growth is fine , right same here I wouldnt worry...

This is a normal process for your plants. While new growth shoots up, older leaves will wilt, dry, and eventually fall.
Your plants are becoming toddlers and simply losing their baby teeth. :)
Keep them properly watered and they'll be fine.
I could do with a few Ideas ................
Hey mand I am afraid you may have a few problem with them dear. Salt build up is one problem for sure but it's just caused the other problems that's why different plants are affected. What is the Ph of the soil and what is the Ph of the water you are feeding them with? Toasty brown leafs are a sigh of zinc deficiency and possible a fungus. Intervenal chlorosis and burned tips along with small stunted dark green new growth are caused by excessive salts.
I could do with a few Ideas ................
Hello :) and thankyou very much for the replies, very much appreciated :)
Zandor, I have no idea about the PH value, you know me simple, easy and just plain lazy:o
Anyway I read you're post and well I know they aren't right, so I thought it's time for drastic action here, ethier "kill or cure".
They are looking to me lke a bit of a "lost cause" and to be honest I ever since I got divorced "I don't do lost causes" ;)
So I've re-potted in totally different compost, gave them a quite severe prunning and absolutely drenched them ....................... now I'll give them a little longer to improve, if they don't I'll bin them and start in the other growroom as the temprature should be ok by then.
Thankyou all .................................. love mand xxx:)

Good move Mand! No doubt they should have a few days to adjust to their new 'surroundings' before you decided to 'bin them'. Although if done right transplanting causes very little if any slow down.
Ya know you can buy very inexpensive pH testing supplies at pet stores. They aren't super accurate, but it would at least give you an idea of what your water pH is. But if you've never had problems in the past with something like this, it probably isn't the water. My guess would be the compost, as I suggested a while back. Hey maybe your wacky neighbor was peein' in it!!!
Hopefully you can learn from this and if it ever rears it's head again will know the proper steps to take. It for sure isn't normal.
Have a good one Mand! Sorry you're having problems...again.
Marc
I could do with a few Ideas ................
Hello Marc :), Ah not to worry love I think the main problem with growing just lately is I've gone too "soft" with them :o
I said I was going to revert back to growing as I did on previous grows but I haven't, I seem to have been just to busy "fannying and faffing" about with them. After all there just plants, just a bit of vegetable matter that I grow for one purpose only. No more fans, thermometers or anything like that, just proper basic stuff ;)
From now on I go in there once a day or every other day and if they don't shape up soon .............. they are history ;)
Anyway Marc, the next lot are going to be done in the garage, that's where I have had some very nice grows, grows to actually be proud off, unlike the dismal attempts that I've been doing recently :o
Oh and one thing that is definately certain ............. no more grow journals, they are just jinxed, cursed or whatever you may call it ;)
love mand xxx:)

Mand,
Dear...
The plants really are fine.. re-pptting them is fine.. but pruning them is a major NO NO...
The rust on them was necrotic and definitley was from the inside out...
As long as a plant has vigourous new growth you are always doing "better" than "ok"...
Pruning is 90% of the time a NO NO.. in all cases...
Are you not PHing your water?
Did you transplant them into a new soil? A new brand... or the same brand?
I think you know to let your soil dry out NOW.... easy on the watering
Hang tight dear.. if you PH your water you should not have to feed any time soon...
please post more pics..
NOW there is ONLY LOVE

I agree pruning them was not the best idea. It could shock them a little so when they recover just watch for hermies.
I still say you have the best Avatar on the whole forum...sexy...very sexy:upsidedow

Well even after i read all about it i still butchered my plant, which is now dead and gone, but ive started a new grow and the little lady is comin in great, its in the 2nd week and growing like a.....well......weed.
I could do with a few Ideas ................
Oops i completely left out the entire point of the post, which is dont cut off leaves, the plant will start eating itself. The worst thing is to over prune it then put it into flowering, wch i found out the hard way. Within 12 hours the plant started eating itself. All the leaves up to about six inches from the bottom developed crispy yellow spots. After about 2 weeks i had to murder it, i still have nightmares. But yeah dont cut off any leaves. hahaha i just lit 2 cigaretts because i forgot i lit the first one, ahh where is my mind going.

I'm always the same Turtle love, but it never stops me posting anyway :o ;)
Thankyou for the replies guys :) and yes I also share you're concerns about prunning/hacking them but it's desperation time here :o
I truely think that Zandor hit it on the head with the fungus. I'm positive that everything is ok with all the other elements in the grow, I personally believe it's something to do with the growroom :(
I'm pretty sure I will lose this grow and I've posted some pics of the ongoing problem on my grow thread.
Thanks guys ............................ a slightly depressed mand xxx:(

I think you might be suprised. I've seen this very same leaf issue before and it never had a negative impact in any way.
Keep your spirits up and think positive.
Best of luck to ya n keep us posted!

Fungus can cause rusts which look a bit like a cal. deficency, ie brown spots and can also cause blights which produce yellowing viens. The compost may be to rich in humus which in excess can burn as it has not yet broken down into humnic acid. Untill the microbial life breakdown the humus and ammonium nitrogen into nitrate it is unusable by the plant and can build up. If feeding with chemicals that can kill the microbes in the soil and the humus will not break down with out them. Nitrogen is washed away easily if that is the case and flushing is a good idea. Could I ask what you are feeding them?
