Surviving in the wild, could you do it?
There is a new show on tv called survivorman, the guy goes out into the woods for seven days without any food, water and shelter. He shows how to survive and keep yourself alive by making traps and eating shit like crickets and rabbit anything edible. I actually learned some stuff, but I wouldn't know enouph to survive by myself. I know one thing, whenever I go camping I always take a shitload of weed. Nothing better than blazing in front of a campfire. :stoned:

i have been schooled in the art of survival.
i have been broken and remade.

i have spent four long days and nights
all alone with a ziploc of rice an onion and a carrot
four bouillon cubes and a canteen.
the earth will provide.

I have never gone alone but want to try it. i have only gone with freinds so far, but I want the challenge going alone. How was it at night? I fear bears the most, just because I have seen them already in the wild. I know that even with a gun it might not stop them from jumping ontop of you when your sleeping.

I could do it, no problem. I've done a lot of backpacking and mountaineering and have spent months at a time living out of my backpack. 7 days would be easy. That being said, how well I, or anyone, would do depends a lot on where I was. Some places are far easier to survive in that others.

you gotta tap into your basic primitive insticts at the core to actually survive for any real amount of time in the "wild".
Id want shrooms over weed in that situation!

when you spend the night alone in the woods for the first time
you will probobly cry.
i think you must go thru this process in order to release your fears.
i grew up in a big city and never never knew the feeling of solitude.
whenever i get stuck or need time to unwind i go on solo's
i have taken a couple of different people to experience it
but they hate being alone and see it as a waste of time.
these individuals are always stressed and easily bothered by lil things.
have some balls and just go alone.find a spot and make it home for awhile.

Ive never actually spent the night in the woods alone on purpose but i was homeless for awhile and the only place you wont get disturbed is balls deep into a forest. The only thing about being alone is when you are tryin to catch some Z's you hear every creature of the night awake and busy
takes some gettin used to!!

I've never been scared when being by myself in the wild. At least not if I'm far enough out. Nothing out there to be scared of. Bears are more of a nuisance than anything. Hang your food and keep some good size rocks nearby to throw at 'em. They'll go away.
I've always found it much scarier to be alone in the typical drive in and park your car type of campground. I've seen some pretty weird people at those places. I was once alone at one particularly creepy campground deep in the forest near Mt. Hood, close to Portland Oregon. This place was dark even during the day and at night I was scared shitless.. I kept imagining some axe murderer who roams around campgrounds at night looking for his victims.

hey fengzi
can you start a fire using bow-drill
can you find water in the desert.
have you summited whitney [mountaineers route]
here in los angeles when i go out i carry my 357 always.
there are some weird people that roam the hills.
once at night this man came into my camp and i was
tempted to blow his head off.i was thinking he was gonna do me wrong.
he just wanted to borrow some matches or a lighter.

I have a dog which would make it easier for me alone, even though people is what scares me most. The 357 magnum is a good revolver. In the woods I would use shotshells instead of regular bullets though they spread like shotgun shells.

S&W .500 dont leave home without it in bear country.(brown bears that is)
-
Surviving in the wild, could you do it?
a ruger 357 snub is one of the sturdiest guns ive had
-
Surviving in the wild, could you do it?
i walk many miles.
shotty is too heavy
and
if im seen walking thru the woods with a gage
ill probobly get shot myself.
-
Surviving in the wild, could you do it?
These are shotshells for 357 not a shotgun. They have bb's instead of a bullet.
-

The 500 is so fucking heavy. I don't think I would want to drag that thing around. It would save your life though.
-
Surviving in the wild, could you do it?
yeah they make a smaller one only 9 inches long lol. but yea its huge just the sound and the muzzle flash(at night) should scare anything away

i doubt i could survive without some sort of firearm or bow/arrow and a lighter and some weed.
also on the topic of those guns, if i needed a gun in the woods i would pack a .45 with hydrashoks mothafucka!

Never tried to use a bow drill but have started fires with flint and even a lens off my camera once. Finding water in the desert would be tough. I have a basic idea how to do it but do admit I don't have a lot of desert experience. Like I mentioned earlier, a lot would depend on where I was. As for Whitney, I've never actually tried it. The mountaineers route is well within my limits as a climber though as I have a great deal of experience in technical rock and ice climbing. For about 10 years climbing was the main focus of my life and I had planned on being a Mountain Guide. I even worked in a store that sold backpacking and rock climbing equipment.

kids should be exposed to the elements asap.
teach your daughter to climb and to master herself

Yea I could survive. Used to take camping trips with nothing but a knife and some string and got by fine. I was noticing though. Does it look like that animal that dudes cooking in the second picture have fur on it still? It looked like a big rat or something, but couldn't tell as half of it was burnt.

exactly. I spent the first sixteen years of my life on a farm, i spent a hell of a lot of time in the woods. i think i would stand a better chance alone without any food in the woods than i would in a city with no money.

Just thought I'd throw this in, I've heard that the most valuable tool to have when you're stranded out in the woods is a hatchet.
as for water in the desert, you dig a little hole and put a plastic ziplock bag in it, leave it over night, and the next morning it'll have some water. also you can drunk from cacti of course.

-

I'm a city kid, but I spend some time in the country-ish. I think I could at least survive for a little while.

Surviving in the wild, could you do it?
Great thread. I am sure I would do fine in a survival situation. City or back woods
I was 4yrs USMC Infantry. 3 Years Army Infantry. French Commando school. A killer I was. LOL
Been through a few survival schools.
But nothing teaches you more
than getting out to nothing by yourself with no resources
and living off the land and fprgetting what you once had
You either curl up in a ball and cry
or say "fuck that" and suck it up and survive
