your only best bet is PROXY it, but most schools have that area cover, your pretty much screwd when it comes to downloading at school
honestly, when your at school, there's nothing you can do unless you can off the tech working there. It's all set up so they can see EVERYTHING you do. You cannot hide from them. I would advice just to not do that b/c you cannot get away with it at school.
My high school was the same way. Click on one porno link and the swat team flies down from the ceiling with guns pointed at yer...head.
Are you in a dorm, apartment, or still in high school ?
I got busted using bit-torrent as well. My ISP shut off my cable internet as a warning.. sent me a 5 page letter explaining why I got busted and how... and what I got busted downloading (movie).. had the date/time, everything. And if I ever got busted again, I would lose their service indefinately.
I can't really give any advice when using torrents, because 'big brother' is looking for people who are sharing their files. And when you use bit-torrent, you have to upload (hence sharing) to get good download speeds. My advice, don't use torrents for mainstream stuff.. and if you have to, don't do it at school. A good program I use is SoulSeek. Lets you only share your files with certain people, but has a good selection if you can find the right users. :)
well this is college. its differnt. i think at least.
they're not allowed to straihg tup moniter you...but i guess they can do a something to catch me.
I really don't think it matters. Security is probably even tighter at college.
not quite. seeing how its MY laptop, they can't watch everything i do.
at highschool, your own their secured networks. I can do whatever i want, just somehow they new i was dl. maybe they saw bandwith go up.
is there anybody here who is an IT guy and KNOWS what there talking about (not saying you guys dont, i just want an opinion on the professional side)
lol, it's cool.
I don't know what I'm talking about a lot of the time. :stoned:
I used my laptop to download probably like 8 gigs worth of crap using my colleges wireless. They have never caught me, but they also have pathetic security on their network. They are just asking to have all the students information stolen. AUGH I got a letter from kent state a while ago stating that people stole all the students and applicants info off of the network, including mine! I had to go through alot of shit changing...
So in college you can get busted for going on sites and downloading shit what the hell thats lame i thought youd at leastget some more freedom!
That's why dorms suck!
Your own place = your own freedom = your own porn.
As Fabolous said, the best thing to do would be to use a Proxy server (such as SOCKS) or similar such scheme. To the people monitoring your network traffic, all they would see is a constant connection to the proxy server, when indeed it's that server that is connected to the bittorrent site. This way your laptop is not actually making contact with the content or server in question- as another server is sitting between you and the internet.
Besides, do you really want your IP address given out to ever site you visit? That is plan silly. In this day and age where the MPAA, RIAA, and justice dept. serving more and more subpoenas on ISP's to find out the true identities of users, this makes more and more sense.
Combine this with encryption, and port tunneling, and it makes it rather difficult for a network administrator to figure out what you are up to. I should know, since I am largely involved with ISP's and advanced inernetworking, and set up such systems. In any case, proxys are your friend, and using the right tools and having them setup properly will give you a bit more peace of mind.
I would also check out Tor from our friends at the EFF, as this makes the "discovery" process somewhat more difficult...

Silly ass! Whenever someone says I might get caught for using edonkey net and torrents, I just say the only way they can find me is if I'm at a college dorm room.
I recommend you make a Remote Desktop Connection to a PC back home and use that to DL then out the DLs on discs and bring it back to your dorm.
There's a few ways. If it's a laptop get a wireless router and pick up a signal away from your school. Don't share any of your files, it's so easy to pick up on a connection constantly pinging multiple places, so if you aren't sharing it's harder for them to spot. Set yourself up with a dynamic IP. The problem is, I don't know how they're picking up on you, so it's harder to tell you how not to be seen.
U could look at somehow setting up your own server off campus that is connected to the internet, then use a VPN (virtual private network) to connect to your external server and do it that way??
that's basically the theory behind the wireless router, except with wireless you can sometimes pick up on default networks, or specific networks for a price.
Yeah i'v had the swat team literally kick in the door asking who was on computer 15 because i went in dos and started messaging the network,a nd i ment to just send the message" wow the class sux dick" to just our room, but accidentally sent it to every computer in the school, so if u were logged on, or logged on after i did it as soon as windows loads the message " this class sux dick" comes up and since they have every computer numbered, they knew where it came from... but serioulsy no more than 20 seconds went by before they were handcuffing me.Quote:

does anyone know a site like that?
cuz I have a friend who can only go online at school and but almost everything but email and game sites are blocked....
I just need a way to bypass the blocking, not for downloading but to go to sites that are blocked
It depends. A lot of the time in school or work computers, in my experience, it's actually that the admin on the computer blocked these things. That can't be changed without finding the admin password or through a very long and hardcore process that most people would charge for. I'm assuming this isn't his case, as it's probably his own computer running off of the college's connection.
yeah thats what it is
and its a high school
the school isn't very smart and wouldn't know how to block proxies
i've used the site before and it worked (i used to go to the same school)
I just need to find another site like that
so it turns out that drexel university just searches to see what your SHARING. not downloading. They only knew i was sharing it to other people
click, un-check, click again.
problem solved.
You should never share your files anyways. Just for good measure.
ROFL, well really you cant stop them from knowing what your doing at school, if they were monitoring you they either had a keylogger and was seeing what you were typing or they were doing something else. I forgot about all that shit cuz I'm not really into "security" shit anymore but yeah.....:p
no, it wasnt that at all>
every so often, they run sweeps through the network to see what the bandwith is being used for.
if what your uploading matches something on a list that they have, you get flagged.
thats it. plain a simple
