I've read that the first thirty minutes after smoking weed, your chance for having a heart attack quadruples. Does anyone know if this is true? I've never heard of anyone dying from smoking marijuana, and I've never heard of anyone having a heart attack after smoking it, either. I know it raises blood pressure, but can it actually cause a heart attack?
sounds like BS to me, but It could be true . . .I guess?
Anyone have the facts on this?
It's because you're blood pressure can go up when you smoke. Unless you have a heart problem, keep on tokin'.

Yeah, I read something similar a few days ago. I get anxiety pretty bad sometimes, and when I read about the heart attack thing, it concerned me. Couldn't tell you if I have heart problems, but I've had 'panic' attacks that scared me so bad, I went to the hospital. (Thought I was having a heart attack)
It sucks being middle aged . . .
I'm still going to smoke, though. Life just wouldn't be the same w/o my sweet Mary Jane! ;)

having heart problems getting having a heart attack when high is like walking around blind and tripping over some shit when high. Shits gonna happen anyway weed or no weed.
when i started, i'd get anxiety attacks if it was too cold, and i still do, but almost never, even in the cold. since i know what's going on, i dont freak out, and stay calm, so that at worst, all i get is tttreremorrrrrsssssss... lol
as for heart attacks, i sincerely doubt that even if your blood pressure DID go up, unless you had heart problems, you wouldnt have any problems at all.
According to the study that vanzant linked, it can cause heart disease, which kinda makes sense. We know that cigs are linked to heart disease also . . . It probably has something to do with the tar & stuff in the smoke.Quote:

Luckly, I don't think I got TOO much to worry about. ok I'm 66 with triple bypass and somke every day for it (hart) doc put me on it for the Arteries...
I think the heart rate increase is bullshit. Maybe it only happens to inexpirienced or occasional smokers. My heart rate is 90 right now and thats only about 10-15 bpm higher then when I'm relaxed.
sometimes can feel my heart beating really hard, almost like its going to explode . Thatâ??s probably me just tripping out though.

I'v had the same thing in the past. Especially the nights I go over to my friends house and smoke bowl after bowl of chronic from his bong. I'll be sittin there kinda watching TV (when im that blazed a lot of times I can't understand what their saying) then notice my heart is just pounding. It can start pounding so hard you can clearly see my chest pulsating from the pressure. It only gets worse if you think "oh shit, im gonna die" then anxiety kicks in. That's fucked up. I didn't realize that. My dad's side of the family has a bad history of heart disease, which is why I don't smoke cigarettes...
...it's also ironic because my dad and pretty much everyone on that side of the family are all potheads.
They say if your afraid of the raise of blood pressure candy should help (I would choose pixy stix) I dont know how true that is but I read it. Also no one has ever died from weed so I'm assuming if some one has died from a heart attack and had an autopsy and the surgons found THC in their system then there would be deaths caused by marijuana so no, I dont believe this.
