Low cost lighting at Wal-Mart
I ran across some flood lights at Walmart that are subsidised by the power company (PG&E). These floodlights use CPF at 65 watts (see attachment) and are only $11 each. I have been veging with these two lights on two clones for 26 days and I am impressed (see attachment).. The same light is sold at Home Depot for $40 with the replacement bulb costing $18. Anybody looking to veg on the cheap, this is your answer. I usually veg 4 plants at a time with a 400w hps but this was just a test I ran in my computer room closet. From this point forward I will be vegging in the closet for two months then into the flower closet outside with the HID lighting.

that is a very good price ... I would remove the glass lens, though ... what are the paperclips used for ?? :smokin:
-
Low cost lighting at Wal-Mart
I use the paperclips to veg the nodes more on a horizontal (LST) plain so when I flower, light reaches these branches with ease. Just makes a wider plant for me. "Lazy mans scrog" is what I call it.
Yeah, I dumped the cover as well.

I kinda guessed it was holding the stems back for light, but wasn't sure ... its amazing what simple ideas work well ... I do like the looks of that lamp, I will have to go check them out, ... since you are using them for vegging, I assume they are predominantly blue spectrum, wonder if they are available in the red ? :smokin:

The ones at Wally world are only in 6500k. But lights of america has them in both 2700k and 6500k.

I looked at 7 diffrent walley worlds in the philly pa area, not all of them stock them. All of the poeple that have seem to find them say they where in a middle isle display. They don't seem to have them with there lights in the electrical department so only think it is new or it was a buy out. I will be in NJ tommorow I will check theere.

I live just outside of San Francisco and I have been to several Walmarts and they all seem to have them in this region. They are located on a isle display and not in the light section as you stated. The lights are sponsored by Pacific Gas & Electric, so I am unclear on the availability of these lights at this price of $11 in your location.

those are really an answer to my problems, definitely.. but can u just use the bulbs?? i was thinkin of manipulating the fixture, so that i jus use it for the reflector's purpose, and plug it into a regular socket.. not trying to make weird ballasts.. 65w CFL is pretty good.. hard for me to find..

The ballest is NOT in the bulb, so you would have to seperate the ballast from the case(easy to do). This bulb will not fit in a standard household light fixture.

Two of those in a 22 liter Rubbermaid grow box, two 6500k for vegetative and two 2700k for flowering, would be nice in place of a 70w HPS if that's all you could get. I'm guessing that 65w gives out close to 7,000 lumens, right? Two would give out at least a little over 12,000 initial lumens and maybe about 10,000 mean lumens after it's been on for about five - six hours. Maybe not the best light penetration, but it'll get you a good half ounce a plant. Shit, you could also toss a 5.0 or 10.0 UVB light in there during flowering with the two 2700k's, that'd up the quality of the THC a little -- at least enough to make up for the lower yield.

It's not even listed on Walfarts website. If you find an item on their website, you can have it sent to the walfart closest to you without paying shipping.

With a cheap extension cord for a one fifty. Just cut off the female end of the cord. The light comes with wire nuts and a mounting bracket. I mounted the light to the wall in the closet.

match the wires and tape them up, right?? and does it give off alot of heat?
-
Low cost lighting at Wal-Mart
No need to match the wires I believe. My house is usually around 69 degrees, the closet never gets above 85 with the doors closed. With the sliding doors cracked 1/2" it stays a perfect 75. This is with four 65w do-hickies.

meant match the ends, the lamp with the new cuts from the surge protector

theres a black and white so just get a power cord with the same colors not to get confused. I bought a power cord at HomeDepot for like 4bucks and just match up the both the colors with the same colors, theres no need for tape because the lights come with the twist caps that you simply twist the wires together

it's AC current, no polarity issue, just hook it up, and plug it in ... if its a 3-wire, use white for ground plug, check with someone that knows more, but I believe thats the case ... :smokin:

Low cost lighting at Wal-Mart
I ran down to WallyWorld and bought a pair of these lamps, but now I am wondering if I have screwed up ... I jumped at the chance to get these lightweight lights, as my present 8-tube flourescents (4-foot 40watters) are a pain in the ass due to their weight .... but, I have a present total output of 320 watts, with 27,200 lumens (8-square feet cabinet)... these two new lights will have 1000-watt "equivalence", but only 9,100 lumes .... correct me, but aren't the 'lumens' what I should really be aiming for ?? ... need informed answer to this, please .. :smokin:
