hypothetically speaking of course;
if i were to take a tiny amount of bud (like a few joints worth) away with me to somewhere like spain and i got caught at customs, what do you think the concequences would be? ie for such a small amount would they just give you a ticking off and send you on your way or would you get charged...or does it all depend on how they are feeling at the time?

You will get arrested and charged with a crime. You will also miss your flight and spend your vacation money of fines and a lawyer. Wait till you get to Spain and then find some bud.

Well, that's stupid. I can tell you from experience that you're going to want to smoke some spanish weed, they have shit like you wouldn't imagine over there, not to mention the hash, so, why in the hell bring anything from america?
no real issues where you flyin from. jus make sure it dont smell. if your off to south coast can find some very nice pollen at reasonable prices. lots of shite too though so shop around as first deal you come across will probably be soapbar. look for moroccans on street corners, thats what there there for.......

To be honest I wouldn't take the chance of taking weed over there, its really not worth the risk....I dont know what they would do but you probly wouldn't get into the country if they found you with some.....
....however once in the country, we were told that most police would just take the weed off you and any cash you had and leave you on your way...we never got busted but we did get searched atleast once a week....and they were searching properly!
The thing to remember is that, in most countries, smuggling is considered a far greater crime than possession. Take San Francisco (USA) for example. Get caught in SF with up to an ounce and all you get is a $100 fine. Get caught bringing an oz though customs at the SF Airport and your probably gonna do some time. Not worth it for a joint or two.
