Pet Emergency: PLEASE HELP!!!
This is a little long, but PLEASE bare with me....
My girlfriend has a puppy that I've been keeping at my house, because she can't have pets in her apartment. The dog has been staying here for a few months now. When it first got here we kept it inside. My mom was saying that it had worms so we had to put it outside. I never saw the worms in her feces or anything at first. Anyhow, we put the dog outside in a fence. She was fine up until the past few days. My cousin, who also stays here, got another pup and we put it in the fence with my girlfriend's dog. It had gotten to the point (a few weeks ago) where my cousin's dog would not let my girlfriend's dog eat. So I had to start standing out there during feeding time to insure that the dog was getting enough to eat. Well, I was gone for a few days and my cousin was supposed to keep food out for the dogs. I went out to feed the dogs when I got home. When I approached the fence, she was lying on the ground on her side, just staring at me. My first thought was that she was paralyzed, as she usually jumps up and gets all excited to see me. I also noticed that she had a lot less weight on her. Well, I picked her up and brought her inside. She couldn't hardly stand up on her own without falling down. She REFUSES to eat. She drinks water on her own every once in awhile. She lays around with the muscles in her legs jumping and twitching. Occasionally, she whines. Most of the day, she just lays around for a bit, then gets up and wanders around aimlessly. We are going to take her to the vet, but cannot do so until Wednesday. I examined some of her feces out in the fence and found a really big roundworm in her stool. Will worms cause this jerking of the muscles and such? And all the sudden weight loss in just a few days? I'm really worried about her and don't know what to do until we can get her to the vet. Does ANYONE have any idea what this could be? Is it just worms? It seems that there may be more to it than this. Also, she's having alot of discharge around her eyes. This morning I woke up and checked in on her. One of her eyes was so full of gunk that she couldn't open her eyelid. The other was just blurry looking... like a thin film was covering it. Her eyes got better and finally cleared up quite a bit througout the day. Someone give me some useful advice here. My girlfriend is crying her eyes out and I don't know what to do.

1st --> Your gf should keep her dog in her place.
2nd --> Take that dog to the veterinary NOW, unless you REALLY want to see your gf in tears.
WTF? How the hell could this had happened? Somebody fucked up dude... period. Doesn't matter who, this was a major fuck-up.
For feeding time, try separating them. Take your gf's pup and feed her inside the house... when she's done, put her outside.
WTF? Go to the vet NOW!

Pet Emergency: PLEASE HELP!!!
hon, call your vet. and ask them what's going on, you can atleast find out what it could be. The worms could seriously fuck up her insides but I'm not an expert on this at all. Try and comfort your girlfriend and feed the puppy with a bottle of milk or try and get her to eat wet dog food. Keeping the puppy fed (and alive) is the important thing right now. Stay around the puppy as often as you can and pet her and keep her comfortable. Call the vet though, that's the most important thing.

Pet Emergency: PLEASE HELP!!!
Yea the only advice we can give is go to the vet ASAP! They can put the dog on medicine that will prolly get rid of the worms, although it sounds like the dog may have some nerve damage. Dude i watch animal planet animal cops alot, makes me want to cry at time

Another thing....
Call the vet, because, depending on the puppy's condition, if you give her food, you might "shock" her system.
I have no idea what's wrong with her, but there are cases where the internals get "sucked" together. If you feed her, she could... you know. Puppy no more.
Vet dude. Vet.
BTW: Don't even THINK about paying the vet's bill. That's your girlfriend's responsibility. Trust me dude, pay this time, pay for the rest of your life...

Yeah call the Vet, and find a way to get the dog to the vet as soon as possible! do not wait till wednesday!

Pet Emergency: PLEASE HELP!!!
I've tried wet food. she won't eat it. The dog IS seperated from the other. I've kept her in the house in my room since I found her this way. I've stayed with her all day today trying to comfort her and keep her drinking water. I found her this way yesterday. I did try giving her some gravy, which she took a little, then became dis-interested in. I had considered just taking her to the SPCA and letting them have her since it won't be until Wednesday that we have the money to take her to the vet. I checked into it and from what I understand, now you have to make a reservation to turn an animal into them. I don't think she will make it long enough to wait on a reservation. I hadn't called the vet yet, because I thought they'd just tell me to bring her in and I don't have the money right now. I will call first thing in the morning and see what they say though. I'm just really worried. Thanks for the input guys. I hope I can get her better soon.

Pet Emergency: PLEASE HELP!!!
definetly a parasite. probably bloodworms or tapeworm because there are none in her feces. take her to the vet ASAP or the parasites will literally consume her.get the other dog out of the yard and clean the food immediatley because certain parasites are 'contagious'. \

Pet Emergency: PLEASE HELP!!!
I know I need to call a vet guys. I was mainly just wondering if anyone here had experienced anything similar with a pet, so maybe I could get some advice on what to do until then. I will definitely call the vet tomorrow morning though.

Pet Emergency: PLEASE HELP!!!
My dog ate some rotten food and the exact same thing happened to him. (nothing went wrong with his eyes though) The constant jerking in his legs and inibility to stand were him having seizures.
He's fine now but he almost died. I took him to the vet a few hours after he ate the food and he just BARELY made it.
If you give a shit about that dog you should take him to a local animal hospital now. (but call first. I don't know if you described the dogs problems accuratley enough. He may not be in as a dire situation)
I just took my dog to the vet and they gave him every kind of (whatever they were using to knock him out) Drug they had in the place and it didn't make him sleep or stop having siezures.
We had to drive him to an animal hospital.

Fuck you. I love dogs. I am not intentionally doing anything to make this dog suffer. I don't know what the fuck to do when I can't afford a fucking vet. I don't want to watch her die. Some people should keep their mouth shut. Seriously. If you don't have anything helpful to say, why open your fucking mouth?

Loving dogs and taking care of them are two different things.
Nice mouth ya got there. If you love her, take her to the emergency vet and drop her off so they can tend to her. You don't just take a dying dog up to your room and watch her die.
Look, is her tummy very hard? Like a rock? Has she suddenly dropped enough weight that she's boney? Odds are that she's malnurished from worms. Worms enter the heart. Then there's not much you can do. The other dog took her food because the other dog is the stronger dog.
You have a very sick puppy.

Pet Emergency: PLEASE HELP!!!
Has the puppy had all her shots?
-
Pet Emergency: PLEASE HELP!!!
Her stomach is not hard. She is looking a bit bony. She has not had shots that I know of. She was brought here straight from where she was born. As far as I know, they had not given her shots yet. I had been doing some reading on the internet today and found that a lot of the symptoms she's having were just like the symptoms from distemper. Assuming that she hasn't had shots, that was my first guess at what it might be. And yes, I understand that loving dogs and taking care of them are two different things. I have been taking care of this dog. I've been feeding/watering her daily, playing with her, etc... I leave for a few days and rely on my cousin's word that she will feed the dog along with her own (she knew that the other dog was keeping her from eating and that I had to stand there and make sure she got fed). I come home and find her in this condition. I am not blaming it on my cousin, but I could have known about this sooner, had she actually been checking in on the dogs while I was out. I can understand the hard feelings about people who don't take care of their pets and so on... but I do not mistreat animals and never would. Can you just drop an animal off at a clinic and they take her in and tend to her? Even if I couldn't get her back? I'd rather that happen than to watch her die.

Pet Emergency: PLEASE HELP!!!
Most vets will let you bring the dog in ASAP and worry about the money later. Get the pup to a vet tomorrow. Probably ate a bad mouse or something. Did you get this puppy from a pet store or a breeder? This is the reason you buy from a good breeder and pay the big bucks for a pet. Everything is documented and all shots, immunizations, etc are done before the pup leaves the breeder and most good breeders will make you sign paperwork to the effect that if you will give the pet a proper home and all the care it needs. Moral of the story, don't buy puppies from petco or walmart or petsmart or some dude on the corner or a "friendly" neighbor....they often come from puppy mills and are not well cared for or well bred from the beginning. But that being said, get the pup to a vet tomorrow.
-
Pet Emergency: PLEASE HELP!!!
How old was she when she was taken from her mom? How old is she now? Most responsible breeders will keep the pups until they are 8 weeks old, and will have started the series of puppy shots for distemper, parvo, etc.
I don't know about bringing a pup into a clinic and leaving her, I suppose it depends on the clinic. I worked at a animal hospital for 3 years, and we did have people come in and "surrender" their pets. Not when the pets were really ill though. If worse came to worse, I suppose you could bring her in and tell them she's a stray you found, you think she's sick and could they please help her.
Best of luck, I hope everything turns out okay!
Peace

Thanks for the advice bonsaiguy. She did not come from a breeder or pet store. She was one of a few pups from a good friend's dog. I was under the impression that you had to have the money up front when you take them to a vet. I will be getting her to a vet/hospital/etc tomorrow.

Also, I apologize to you tootsie roll, for lashing out at you the way I did. I'm just really concerned about this dog, and I've never been in this kind of situation before. I don't know how these things work (with the vet and all). I appreciate all of your input, everyone. I will let you all know what happens tomorrow. Thank you all.

I am very sorry this is happening. I've had tears roll down my cheeks for that little girl. I get very emotional. I think I love animals too much if there is such a thing. Yes, if you take her to the vet, ER vet, clinic.....they will help her. Even if you just drop her and leave. They will do their best to treat her and if she can be made healthy, they'll try to find her a home. Sometimes a client has lost a beloved "baby" and needs a new "baby" to love, sometimes they go to Save A Pet or Best Friends...............right now she's sick hon, get her help. If you can't go right now, make sure she's kept warm, hold her as much as you can, make a space on your bed. You don't say if she is evacuating or not. Is her stool runny? Do you have any pedalite at home to give her if she's dehyrated?
Give her a kiss for me and all the best to you both.

Apology accepted and I'm sorry I made you feel worse then you already did. :(

Her stool is very runny. Her urine has an orange-ish tint to it. She's been very lethargic. I believe we do have some pedialite. She has been drinking though, so I didn't know if she would still dehydrate or not. I cannot make her drink for anything, but when my girlfriend tries, she will drink. I think it has something to do with that other dog not letting her eat. (she doesn't do much when I'm in the room with her)

Ok. Give her NOTHING with milk in it. Her urine is showing a loss of ketones, like if a human was starving, that's what color their urine turns. Give her the pedalite. Stick your finger in it and let her lick it off your finger. If she doesn't lick it off your finger, use an eyedropper and put some in the side of her mouth and gently rub her throat. Care for her tonight as you would an infant. Wrap her in a blankie and cuddle her. Give her the pedialite and maybe some baby food. Warm up some beef or chicken baby food and stick your finger in it and try to get the puppy to eat some.
I'm keeping her in my thoughts. You too.
