ATTN: People from Colorado and Nevada!!!

I REALLY hope that anyone from Colorado or Nevada is paying attention this year and willing to have a voting day party for the cause! A simple fact is that organizations like MPP, SAFER and NORML have managed to get marijuana legalization on direct ballot for this year for these two states.

Just think, voting day rolls around and you all hook up with 10-50 friends that you set up before hand so you can all go vote for legalization. What a rush if you win! What a kick in the balls it will be to the John Walters personally and the prohibitionists in general! Especially GW, he pushes prohibition as hard or harder than anyone.

Everybody on these sites would love to take an effective and legal shot at the government. We read about it all the time with people writing about how our policies suck. Here is your chance to really make a difference and put your voting day time where your mouth is. I can't vote there and yet for the first time in my life I have sent money to a political organization. I wish I was there myself to help organize a couple hundred people.

I agree, skunksmoker006. I wish there was at least one state legalized as I also believe it would have a domino effect amongst voters.

However, why just wish? If you live in one of these states then get some people together and go vote for your rights. If you don't live there then try to send even $10-20 to SAFER, MPP or NORML. These guys are sticking their necks out for us and deserve our support.

If not then we may be doomed to repeat the mistakes of the last 60yrs in the next 60.

Wouldn't it be the same deal with the Medical Marijuana. Even though States have passed laws for the legal use of marijuana for medical purposes it is still breaking a federal law...Someone please clarify if you know the difference.

Yes D Ton, it would be the same as with medical marijuana. It will still be against federal law.

However, that is the whole point. People are rejecting these laws and since we can't get them changed at the federal level we decided to start in the states. That is the whole point of state governments in our country, to handle local issues that effect us directly without having to take every problem to a national level. It is easier for citizens to change local laws than it is to effect national ones.

I ask this, however. When half the states have decriminalized or legalized for recreation and medical marijuana is legal in most states won't the federal governments policies stand out even more? Won't it make them reevaluate their positions considering the widespread support that would obviously entail?

We live in a democracy and even Washington politicals, God bless their black little hearts, do not function in a vacuum.

Thanks NewActivist, that is exactally the point! It would be sending a huge message to Washington, other states, and all critics of Marijuana. I have a good friend who is a registered resident of Nevada, but lives in CA with me. I already told him about it and he is excited - however has his doubts about its chances of passing. He says that many NV residents are already wary of the social climate there do to all the gambling and sex. I hope it passes, i'll be watching closely!

Actually Daima it would be better if everyone interested in fixing this got together 50 people who agree and vote. 500 activists X 50 friends =25,000 votes. No politition can ignore 25,000 votes, especially in a senatorial or congressional race.

Alone we have no power. With 25,000 friends we can change the world.

Politicians can and do ignore votes. They now use voting machines to avoid our demands. No paper trail.

If voting really could change anything it would be illegal

The reason for voting is to replace rule of the gun. That is what I find so extremely dangerous with these machines or any voting methods that are not absolutely above reproach. If we the people truly believe our votes no longer matter then our support for this government will collapse. Very, very dangerous ground. I hope our political parties realize this in their ever greater efforts reaching for the levers of power. They haven't figured out yet what power really is, only how to manipulate it.

However, if the votes are even remotely honest then the only way the polititions could ignore them is to declare our constitution void. Voter initiative is an escape valve mechanism built into our government for exactly this reason. Refer to the paragraph above for what happens without it.

Our constitution has been void for quite some time now. It's interpretation is left in the hands of their buddies on the ussc. bye bye miss american pie.

Don't get me wrong Daima, I'm not arguing many of your points except a couple. It is everyone in this countries responsibility to try to fix the things we believe wrong in our country but there is a right way and a wrong way to go about it. When I read in your post about bloodshed it is time to slow up. There is a time and place for revolution when we are living under a totalitarian regime. However, we as a country are nowhere close to that.

Interesting that you put in here about how many of our citizens are in jail. Ties right in with the fact that they constantly have to make room for marijuana offenders so they release murderers and rapists. Ties right into the fact that the prison industry writes the mandatory sentencing laws that our "leaders" sign into law and we have to suffer for. However, if the government would learn to seperate marijuana from the other hard drugs I would mostly go along with their anti-drug efforts. I follow the Singapore route when it comes to crack, meth and heroin. Not because of the damage they do physically; I've seen people huff gasoline for a buzz. I feel that way because, by being physically addictive, they take away peoples freedom of choice. Nobody said drugs were good for you but when we decide to pull our shit together again we should be able to. Once hooked on those most of us lose that choice. I feel that prison sentences should be relatively short doing brutally useless mind numbing work. If you refuse to work then you don't eat and if they starve themselves to death then it's an end to all our problems. I don't work I don't eat either so it seems fair to me. After the third time convicted by a jury of your peers for selling crack, heroin or meth you get hung. I know, it's an extreme position so I usually don't mention it but that is the way I feel. Dealers in those drugs need to know beyond all doubt that society really doesn't appreciate their greed and the lost lives/potential of our citizens.

It seems to me that we need to have a way to replace the LEO jobs lost to the end of prohibition. Why can't they designate drugs for recreational use? Drugs that are mostly non-damaging and non-addictive. Nobody wants to take dangerous, illegal and bathroom chemistry drugs if there is a comparable and safe alternative. The jobs would be created by the regulation of them and it would replace dangerous environments for police with a job focused more on regulatory oversight.

However, the first step is solving what both of us, for all our differing views, see mutually as the main problems. Marijuana is the most widely used illegal drug by far. It's physical and societal damage is negligable but the prohibition laws are ruining millions of lives and doing incalculable damage to our rights and freedoms. These laws are causing massive damage to our country and it's past time to end it.

The first step to solving these, in my opinion, are for fine states like Colorado and Nevada to take the lead in making this a safer and better society for all of us. We need to take away LEO's prohibition addiction, at least as far as marijuana is concerned. Just another step on the journey.

Things we agree with almost always seem "fair" to us. And other times things we disagree with seem "fair" to us. That doesnt necessarily make it so.
I have lived for close to 50 years. If we are going to now kill those who sell dangerous substances/things then maybe we should start with those who sell fossil fuels? tobacco products? Alcohol beverages? Kayaks? cars? fast foods? people with cars kill more people annually than illegal drugs do. Caffeine kills more americans every year than the Heroin or Coke that is sold on our street does. Lets go kill the coffee growers. What a menace. We are in Columbia and have been for years and we now have more Cocaine on our streets that anyother time in our history, and more affordable.. I know that my position on other hard drugs may seem extreme and that is why I rarely mention it. Yet, with the above sentence you have just made my point. I feel this way out of sheer self-defense.

I refuse to allow any of those dealers around the people I love. Cars do not sneak to your home to sell addictive poison behind your back. Alcohol won't pimp your sister and wife on a streetcorner. Kayaks don't deliberately hook people on them so that they can't get out and they end up over the cliff. Cigarettes do not make your children steal for them to get their next fix.

A crack/meth/heroin dealer will do anything he can to destroy the people we love just so that they can "get theirs". I couldnt help but think of you this a.m. while watching the news out of Oklahoma. It seems as though this kid was caught on Video breaking into a tobacco store and he lost part of his pants in the process. They call him the "Bare Bottom Bandit"
Imagine....committing a felony to steal tobacco? wow, how does it happen?
I could of swore that you said that people dont steal for tobacco, or lie, or this, or that. I guess that this was just an isolated incident, eh?
I guess that watching some people pick butts up off the ground, or searching ashtrays for used butts, and stealing, and begging others, has nothing to do with severe addiction. I understand that if the tobacco was illegal that those addicited to it would behave in the same way those addicted to "hard" drugs behave? Like breaking into stores? stealing? MMmmmm Imagine that.
Now, about going after those who target your family and friends with deadly addictive substances? Tobacco spent about 44 million dollars last year targeting them. What are you going to do about it?

By the way, i own a cabin in Boulder Colorado, on Canyon Dr., down behind the college. I own my own place in SF, and i have a cabin in Truckee California. I raised two kids and i am now raising and supporting two grand kids. Not bad for a loser who has done things his way in life and has never depended on anything but my own talents to get me by. I do this on less than 200,000$ a year. Give me some credit.:D
