Strange leaf growth
I'm pretty new to this game, but I've done a fair bit of research and now I've started my first grow...
The first set of leaves to come out of the sprout are getting bigger, but seem to be growing more on one side than the other, making them curve. (see pic)
Has anyone seen this before, and is it anything to worry about? The colour looks healthy I think.
P.S
I'm growing in my closet with 2 growlite tube lights.

looks good man
move your lights like 2 inches away or so to avoid the stretch
-
Strange leaf growth
Cheers man, yeah, lights are closer now.
So you reckon that the leaf shape is ok? I just thought it looked strange compared to other pictures I've seen. They look like bloody horns!

By the way, The strain is Skunk #11, by Dutch Passion. It is also feminised.
I was just wondering what others thought of this specific strain... Have any of you smoked it? What can I expect? (all assuming that the feminised seed turns out to be a girly as advertised!)

you need to add perlite to your soil when you mix it. with mj the roots love air. if you don't add perlite when you repot your opening yourself up to all sorts of problems such as root rot to name 1. i'm very suprised that none of the above posters noticed! i like to use at least 1/3 perlite but recently have been using even more than that with excellent results. without perlite the roots just suffocate. your plant looks good(a little stretched)i just wanted to give you a heads up before you have any problems. also if that is peat, which it looks like, you need to make sure you add 1-2 tbsp dolimitic lime per gal of soilmix to raise the ph to the low 6's. peat is naturally very acidic and will cause nute lockouts if not counteracted with lime or another akaline substance, i think plaster will do the same but dolimitic lime is easy. it's hard to add to much. i have added as much as 8tbsp to a gall of soil as an experiment and the ph was still only 7.0. just be careful because they also sell hydrated lime which is much more powerful than the dolimitic lime and can be easily overdosed.

Nah, the potting medium is just general compost dude. It was just very dry when the photo was taken. I was going to add perlite as soon as I re-pot, cos I dont want to screw it up by being a cheap ass!
Any comments on the strain?

never grown the strain myself, so i can't help you there. you still might want to add 1tsb dolimitic lime per gal soilmix when you repot. it's like $6 for a huge bag at home depot and it is an invalubable way of controlling ph in soil grows. i NEVER grow without it. i learned the hard way so i just wanted to pass on the info so noone else has to.

Cheers man, I'll bare that in mind definately. I heard that sand can be used as an alternative to perlite? Is this the case?
I was just looking for perlite on the net (I'm in the UK) because theres nowhere near me that sells it. Postage fees knocked the price up to £12 (about $20) for a 10 litre bag! I'm a poor student!

i'm not sure about sand but i believe there is some kind of coconut fiber product that is similar, maybe someone else can elaborate on that?

"Many other brands are mostly wood products and have very few nutrients, are too moist, etc. Add vermiculite, pearlite or sand to Super Soil to increase it's drainage and aeration." http://www.a1b2c3.com/drugs/mjgrow4e.htm
According to this, sand should be ok. Theoretically, it should improve drainage, because it does not absorb water. (thats my theory anyhoo!)

sounds right, perlite is just much more light and airy, here in the us you can get it anywhere, i guess i just kinda take it for granted. good luck!

Here it is at 10 days. (thats 10 days after I planted the germinated seed) When do you guys reckon I should be thinking about re-potting it?
Also, what do you think of the general state of the plant?
-
Strange leaf growth
looks good, don't repot yet, let the roots fill that container 1st
-
Strange leaf growth
cool man, cheers. I heard conflicting stories over when you should repot, just wanted to be clear on it. How big should the plant be for it to fill the container with roots?

you'll see roots coming out of the drainage holes when it becomes rootbound. do not overwater but keep moist when you transplant and it'll slide out of the old pot much easier while leaving the root ball in tact. have your new pot ready to receive the plant before doing anything by adding a little super-thrive to the hole (or any stress reducing hormone product from your local nursery) and a little more around the plant after it goes into the new pot. then let it be for a few days...it aready has plenty of water and nutes and rest is needed while it grows into its new environment.
glad to see ya lost the foil too...aluminum foil is beyond worthless in a garden. flat white paint or mylar is the way to go...

roots can come through the drainage hole long before the plant needs repotting. roots naturally go out to the edges and down to the bottom 1st, then they fill in the middle. i usually repott when the plant get's to be about the same size as the pot or a little bigger. that's just my method. some say wait until you need to water every day then it's time to repot.

I agree justa seed
I have recently seen a plant that was revegged 3 times and was over 240 days old..
it was an indica..
in the same 5 gallon pot...
Ithought for sure it would be root bound.. NOPE..
not at all
I think a lot of root bound diagnosis is wrong.. and the real problem is NUTRIENT LOCK up....
