What does MUSIC do for you high?
Often when I'm high I'll throw in some Mozart - mostly his sonatas and symphonies. When I listen to it I let myself become - no shit - a ballerina dancing with long ribbons unfurled, one held in each hand. Oh, and sometimes I dance on a gymnasts floor, all bouncy. The ribbons will begin to dance together themselves, above my own head, making love to Mozart. They begin to flow, as if the viewer is moving along at a high speed, the ribbons still dancing in time. The ribbons may form a waterfall or tube or even a scene with people in it.
Only through the anonymity of the internet would I ever say that - but what the hell. If there's anyone else who'd be willing to admit to giving Mozart a try while high, or classical music in general, and would be willing to share their experience that would be awesome. Us classical music junkies need to spread the word! There's nothing else like it!

What does MUSIC do for you high?
Hmm.. interesting post. I appreciate classical music sober, but I never even considered turning it on while high. I usually like to listen to some trippy, electronic stuff while I'm high. Last time (Saturday) I smoked I imagined my own music, it was weird as fuck. I blazed with my roommate and we could swear we both heard like a Native American chant/song and like.. it was really amusing.
Then we stopped for a second and were like, this is ridiculous, that was totally an auditory hallucination, but then it started up again, and the strange shit is that we heard it at the same time when it started up again. Either it was like.. one crazy hallucination or there was one crazy Native American dude singing in the snowstorm. (We never found him)

What does MUSIC do for you high?
I play bluegrass music. Guitar and fiddle. When i am not playing and i just want to relax i throw some Miles Davis on and burn one down. Garcia/Grisman do some Miles on their 'So What" CD. Garcia and Grisman have taken Bluegrass music to a level that boggles the human mind. Other Gracia/Grisman CD's that are worth your while would be
Shady Grove
The Pizza Tapes
Not for Kids Only
Old and in the way
Grateful Dawg
Garcia/Grisman
Been All Around this World
This is an example of what FlatPickin and Mandolin playin should sound like.
Jerry Garcia's work on the Banjo and Acoustic Guitar is amazing.
dai*ma
Does this road take me all the way to Little Rock?
I've been standing here all day and it hasnt went anywhere yet:dance:

instead of immersing oneself in the past, in the form of classical music, one should immerse oneself in the modern, the contempary, the FUNK!!!
Funky house all the way man, theres nothing better than getting high to some low-down-and-dirty-grindy-FUNKY ass tunes.
in funk we trust.

Speaking of Funk, do you listen to Tower of Power. If not, definitely check out some of their stuff. Some highlights are:
Squib Cakes
Down to the Nightclub
Soul Vaccination
Diggin' on James Brown

I haven't listened to much funk besides James Brown and Funkadelic/Parliament. I'll give the others a listen though. I'm also pretty ignorant when it comes to bluegrass, so I'll look into getting ahold of some.
But what I initially was trying to say is that classical is great stuff when you're high - if you've first taken the time to find a composer you like, and develop an appreciation for it, just like with rock or funk or bluegrass or whatever.
Brey, classical is not 'old' music necessarily. There is some ridiculously progressive stuff that has been put out by contemporary composers like Igor Stravisnky, Alban Berg, and Steve Reich, to name just a few.
Check out the Steve Reich song "Come Out" and tell me that's old music. Reich is great, but my personal fav is Mozart (symphonies and sonatas, and some operas) - its blatantly brilliant, and can be incredibly visual and emotional when you're high, and sometimes when you're not.
Alright I'll stop beating this dead horse for now.

the taco bell by my house plays classical, and being high and having the munchies, i tend to go there alot and have acquired a liking to classical music.

What does MUSIC do for you high?
music really trips me out when im high just today i was going to watch the movie waiting but first i put my ipod on and listned to the grateful dead for a while i also had some grateful dead space your face incense burning and i layed on my bed and imagined the incense smoke is what the band smells like and i felt like i was in the 60s laying on the stage as the dead played scarlet begonias around me and the lyrics were reminding me of stuff that happends in my life then when the lyric said;
Well, I ainā??t always right but Iā??ve never been wrong.
Seldom turns out the way it does in a song.
Once in a while you get shown the light
In the strangest of places if you look at it right.
i had this weird feeling they were trying to tell me something like if you look in the right places you can see into the future or something like that
then when i put on dark star on i was floating in space as the music danced around me

What does MUSIC do for you high?
I listen to Kottonmouth Kings if I want a laugh, but I usually can't get all the way through one of their songs. But usually, I'll listen to anything that comes to mind... mostly metal stuff but I listen to everything.

What does MUSIC do for you high?
:smokin: Well, actually it's the other way around, question should be "What does your high do for your music?", when I am high it's much easier to listen to music because I concentrate harder and foucus on the lyrics, and when the song is over i say "whoa he said some crazy sh*t" lol....weed helps me out alot...and I'm officially baked.:smokin:
-
What does MUSIC do for you high?
it DEFINITELY depends on the mood AND the drug.....and where your at.
on herb i can dig mostly anything (except rap and metal)
Grateful Dead
Phish
Little Feat, Funk....Sly and the Family, Soulive,Greyboy Allstars
miles davis,
john coltrane
ella and basie orchestra
but on hallucinagenics/entheogens i prefer stuff without words
like Miles Kind Of Blue or trance stuff like Bill Laswells Hallucination Engine
i Dont know about you Daima, but i love to hit the green grass and
play the bluegrass....its SO much fun!!
once in a entheogenic state i was listening to some ella fitzgerald and count basie and i started to feel like i was IN the band in a ballroom in the 60's
playing my guitar in the swing band! i never even knew i could play jazz like that, but it just came to me naturally that evening!

I'm way ahead of you jazzkid ;)
I do a couple of bong hits and i cant leave my guitar or fiddle alone.
I play quite regularly at a cafe here in San Francisco called, The Atlas Cafe.
I do go over to Berkeley and play the ,Freight and Salvage, once in a while.
I have also played the , Sweet Water, in Marin County California. Nice to see another Bluegrass lover here.
Every year in SF we have a "HardlyStrictlyBluegrass" festival in Golden Gate Park, and it's all free to the public. 50 bands, 5 stages. Last event featured
Guy Clark
Donner Mountain String Band
Todd Snider
Emilou Harris

What do you play? I have a 33 Martin, a FG 135 Yamaha, and Clapton Signature Stratocaster. I have my eye on a nice 47 Gibson and a nice 93 Santz Cruz. The Gibson is going to cost me 10 g, but worth every fucking dime. I was trying to get an even trade by offering my two grand kids, but the owner of the Gibson said she would feel cheated. ;) rats. lmao.
dai*ma
Q. What do you call a Banjo player without a girlfriend?
A. Homeless:dance:
-
What does MUSIC do for you high?
O yeah,
hey Jazzkid,
You have to listen to what Garcia/Grisman did with some of Miles Davis Comps.
The CD is named after Davis', So What.
So what
Great acoustics and awesome Mandolin playin done by the Dawg.
I still say that Garcia was the best dang 4 finger Banjo player to ever live.
