It appears that a male flower has decided to grow right on top one of my cola's.
Picture 1 reveals the little guy.
Picture 2 is what he's after.
What day is it? Flower day 26.
Just goes to show that you just try to do your best. Can't control everything.
I'll have to wait and see what happens.

Hello Everyone,
Yes, I should of seen this coming. Last weekend I noticed something that wasn't just right. I thought maybe I had the light to close and just managed to barely burn the top of that cola. I backed the light off and 1 inch or so. But I kept looking at it. I've never seen one pop out on the very tip of a cola before.
And where there is one you know there are more. I found 3 others. I used tweezers to remove them.
They probably pollinated some of my flowers. They didn't need much help but with a fan blowing right on them I'm sure they found there way.
I will hopefully get a some seeds out of this and they will be more than likely feminized seeds. This is a good thing since my seed bank has been totally depleted. The seeds that started this grow were over 3 years old. Only a few germinated and only one sprouted.
Mand, I have just the one. I like to have at least 2 but it was not to be this time. But I think I will get a good amount from it. Maybe 3 or more ounces. Who knows. Shouldn't count your buds before they are dried. ;)
Stoney, I use a 400W HPS for flowering. As far as the nutes go, obviously not enough. :o You can see that the fan leaves are starting to yellow. This has happened in the last 24-48 hours. I just use a all-purpose 10-15-10 liquid. But last weekend I decided to flush the soil. I used about a gallon of fresh water to flush a 5 gallon container. Probably not a good idea, to soon. I'm at 26 days and am hoping to finish aroud 45 days. I gave is some more nutes today. The rest of the leaves around the colas are still green. I hope the don't start to yellow to soon. I think I will try something from the hydro store from now on.
Buk, I saw your stuff. If it were mine I think it would be hanging upside down by the end of day.
Peace

Happy, I would pick them off and save to pollenate the next grow to make a cross or keep the same. That female banana pod is what they make female seeds out of. If they just came on in the last of your grow they did not pollenate anything it's toooo late for this time. Good looking buds too. Flowers must be pollenated early to allow the seeds plenty of time to develope. If you find one or two you will be lucky and it will be fem seed. Good luck and let us know what happens.

LocNar, I'm all over it. They've been sequestered in their own little pollen vault. Will use them in the future to spread a little 'happiness'. :D
Stoney, Don't get so down. If your having troubles, we've all had them. One thing I try to do is keep everything as simple as possible.
First of all it takes longer than 5 days to dry properly. If you put those buds in an air tight container, for lets say 8 hours, it will bleed some of the moisture from in the center to the outside. Then leave the container open and let dry again. Then repeat. You will need to do this several times.
Freshly MJ will taste and smell different. As time goes on it will eventully smell what you are used to.
Second, if your starting 6-10 plants (or more) you are going to need a light that will cover a bigger area during veg. That is where the MH light comes in. If you are growing for a small army this what you will need. But if you are growing for personnal use it is overkill. MH will provide excellent light to veg plants, even only one or two (or more). They also cause plants to stretch. I don't want tall plants. I want short bushy plants with compact plant structure. They cost more to run and generate more heat and are more expensive than florescents.
I ideally only want 2 female plants. I sprout mine in a south window in 2 gallon containers. Then move them under a single fixture (2 tubes 40w each). After about a week I add another fixture. Then I cut between the first and second node. You've seen what this does? I keep the light at about 2 inches above. This produces a short, stocky, bushy plant. It gives the roots a chance to fill the container without being transplanted from a tiny (cup?) container. After about 6 weeks I switch to HPS and start to flower. I transplant to 5 gallon container. I make enough soil for the 2 gallon and the 5 gallon containers at the same time and store it for when I want to transplant.
With only 2 plants you can bet that a 400W HPS will provide plenty of light. If you have a compact plant you will get flower production that will grow into nice :D colas.
As far as nutes go, I'm no expert. I just use the basic stuff. I don't want to over feed. I am very careful when it comes to this. I remember a long time ago when one of my friends though he would do a grow. His stuff would start to spark if you tried to smoke it. Way to much.
Latewood gave me a tip (Thanks Latewood) about some nutes. He also has some thread about them. I would just pick something for veg and something for flower to start with. Then just use a water flush.
Remember keep it simple. ;)
