Probation

Probation is honestly the worst idea that anyone has ever come up with. All it has done is ruin my life. before probation, I was smokin a bunch of weed. now, all i do is drink a shitload of liquor, dxm, and pop pills. its so fucking stupid. all probation does is turn people onto harder drugs. And once you're in the system, it's so fucking hard to get out of. im a felon now so i can't get a job, and i can't get into any colleges. All because i had a few oz's of a peaceful plant; i don't understand it. I know that once i get off probation ill start smoking again, so what the fuck is the point. all that has happened is: i've lost a shit load of money, friends, and respect. and now all i can do is complain about how shitty my life is and how much the government sucks. So that only pisses off my friends and puts them in shitty moods. My senior year of highschool is ruined, and if i don't comply with probation, my whole life will be ruined.

so id like to hear some of your feelings on probation......but im sure most of you fucking hate it.

a lawyer came into our school yesterday and talked to us about it. i was actually surprised. people dont realize how harsh probation is. your drug tested weekly, you cant get any traffic violations, and a bunch of other shit i forgot. but what i do remember is that probations only have a 10% success rate. so good luck man.

i hear ya man, the government sucks! the system does work, probation sucks, justice is never served. our governemt doesnt govern the people, speak for the people or listen to the people, it controls them! even breaks the law to do so, going against what it stands for peace, freedom and democracry!

Ive been on probabation for a year and a half, still got til july, and why? because i had about a quarter in ohio, where the shit is decriminalized. The bitch judge i guess wanted to make an example so she gave me two years, but i dont get drug tested, and ive had traffic violations since then and i report to no one. I honestly think the bitch lied to me, because i looked up the laws in ohio and she gave me over the maximum sentence for a minor.... meh probation isnt that bad, just gotta worry about not gettin arrested. Its really like ive never been on probation.

No one feels sorry for you. No one is turning you on to harder drugs. Smoking weed and carrying weed on you, you always gotta have on the back of your mind that there is a chance of being busted. It's too bad that you got a felony from it. However, don't give up on life. I have friends that are felons and fuck their life up but I know felons that found good jobs although tough.

How old are you and what type work do you do? And in a few years after you keep clean...apply for a Pardon..a good attorney can get you one...restores your voting rights. Hold your head high and remember the best revenge is to do better.

I understand what hes saying. When i was put on Probation, it took away my passion(smoking). I got really depressed for a while then just didn't care anymore and started "harder" drugs. I started doing yay and then clear. It really did make my life a stressful hell and never did ANY good. I finally got off probation ironically for not going to the meetings. I got arrested and stayed in jail for 15 days and they let me off. The day after i got off I smoked about a half and never felt happier in my life... I havn't done clear since i got off probation, and i only do yay like once a month. Also something I found really fucked up was i heard from a friend of mine (whom had the same P.O.) that my former P.O. was asking about my dad and asked if he smoked pot, That proves to me that they don't care about the individual on probation... just their convictions and the right to say "I put that dirty drug-using criminal in jail."... It makes me sick that there are people(if they even deserve that title) out there that think so wicked... If potheads are the evil people of the world then hell's going to be a blast!

im 18 and still in highschool. I don't really want to get a full time job, I'd rather head off to college.

Probation took away my one love :( Well one of two anyway, my girlfriend comes first...

But still, I can't toke anymore. The only thing I can do without ANY worry is drink...you'd think they'd want to turn kids off drinking what with all the driving-related deaths and accidents, of which none can be attributed to marijuana... :confused:

Yeah at first i didn't quit and got caught and my P.o. was unforgiving... But yeah I got through the shit. The point i was trying to make is that probation is pointless. It doesn't do any good. Its hell for potheads and a inconvenience for nonsmokers. I've yet to meet the guy that says "Probation turned my life around!". I Thought maybe at the end of all that I'd think that i didn't wasted all those nights of staying up all night and freaking out about a drug test. That maybe i'd learn some kind of lesson but i didn't. Well i take that back, I learned that there are people out there who love seeing people's lives ruined and its a crying shame that this world is so cruel. You started the thread, I just replied to what you and others wrote. Sure probation sucks but you made your choices, you're not a victim. Would you rather have been sentenced to jail time instead? You're 18, still in high school and by your own words "im a felon now so i can't get a job, and i can't get into any colleges." so what I want to know, is was it worth it? Do you now wish you had just finished school and went to college and worried about smoking dope, liquor, dxm, and popping pills later or was it worth it? If you had spent all of the time (or even half) and effort you've spent on drugs and booze on school, wouldn't you be better off?

You're right that sometimes probation doesn't work, that's why there are penalties for violation of probation. If you blow your "second chance" that's on you...man. Well, what are you going to do? It's your choice and you have nobody to blame for the outcome but you. That's what personal responsibility is all about.

As you noticed none of these people have been on probation that are complaining and don't understand the aniexity. Exactly, most children (no matter what their age) see probation like being grounded by mom or dad instead of seeing how lucky they were not to be spending all of that time in jail. Because they're immature they blame and hate, lashing out instead of taking personal responsibility. It's not new or limited to drug related busts. They also complain about the cop that gave them a speeding ticket while making excuses instead of just admitting they fucked up, shouldn't have been speeding and deserved the ticket. I never complain about speeding tickets because I always speed. It's my choice and I deserve the few rare tickets I do get. *shrug*

I think we all agree here that the WOD is a failure and it should be treated as a medical problem instead of a criminal problem but that's not what we have at this point in time. You can claim it doesn't work but that's only if you have a clintonesque definition of what success is. ;) I like to stick with reality and the reality of the situation is that sometimes probation works as intended and given the current alternative, jail time, probation is sanely preferred. Since you agree that probation is punishment you should also agree that probation is intended to keep less serious offenders out of jail, giving them a second chance in case they just made a mistake. In that regard probation often succeeds. I can't make you agree but facts are facts.

well, actually i rather would have went to jail then be on probation, but I'm trying to get this stuff off my record (for the most part) so I can move on with my life. So yeah, in my case, probation is helping me out in that aspect. But it is ridiculous that a job im applying to 10 years down the road will most likely decline me because of something i did when I was 17. So what would be the harm in taking my weed and giving me a ticket? I'd be heading off to college and not have to go to rehab classes for fucking marijuana. I wouldn't have to call a hotline everyday to see if I have to make a 30 minute drive to have some guy watch me pee in a cup. I wouldn't be so stressed out, and I could sit back and smoke some weed.
And you have no room saying that just because of drugs I don't do good in school. I'm at the top of my class, and a lot of colleges would accept me if I didn't have a felony on my record. I know i have gotten a "second chance", and I won't fuck it up because I won't give the court the satisfaction of thinking that they did a good thing by sending a terrible drug user behind bars.

i would much rather take the 6month probation that im on now than spend 3-15 days in jail. it is your choice to do other drugs while on probation because they dont show up in piss tests, but you dont have to. you ould stay clean, and once you get off, smoke and have that magically moment cause you missed it so much.

Well then probation does work. It's not "fun" but it's not supposed to be either. Felonies are serious, why didn't you think of that at the time? You said you had "a few oz's" right? Maybethe cop would have just dumped the pot if had been less but again, that was your choice too and you'll have to live with the consequences of your choices. That's life, sorry. Since you were 17 maybe things can be sealed at a point in time.

I never said you did poorly in school, I asked if you would have done better? On the UP side, felony or not, there are still schools that will accept you but not all. You never answered if all the drugs/booze/etc were worth it?

I'm glad you see it as a chance and I hope you go to college, even if it's not Yale but you say you're not going to fuck it up but in your first post you said you were doing a bunch of other shit that, if you get caught, will be a major fuck up. Nobody ever thinks they will get caught, jails are full of them. You're an adult now, it's your choice, so I'm not going to tell you to quit or toke on. Like I said, they're your choices and, ultimately, you can only blame yourself for the choices you make. I make my choices and I accept responsibility for those choices, right or wrong. I've been on probation but I never got busted violating it. I hope you don't give them the satisfaction either.

I've been on diversion/probation for a lonng time, and I've been to jail (juvenile detention) for 9 days, and I'd MUCHH rather just spent two weeks in jail and get it over with than spend 9 months on probation.
