pictures of my poppies seedlings, how far should i space them?

hey guys, here is a picture of my poppies that i am growing in my backyard, they are afghani speacial/garden mix. and also included is a picture of where i plan to put them.

and here is where i plan to put them after i rip out all those weeds and then dig (about 1/2 foot deep). then re-soil it. and space them about 2 inches apart each, that should be enough right?

also, any reccomendations for soil? i am going to ORCHARD SUPPLY HARDWARE. so yeah,

whats up with those lil weeds
i like the spot your gonna grow in.
i would get some vermiculite and perlite and some bug spray.[fruit and veg]
also you might wanna get some chicken wire for xtra protection and good for tying down branches.
dig deeper than half a foot.i would say more like 1-2 feet.
if security is a problem maybe get some other kind of flowers to camouflage

thanks owl, i will keep what you say in mind (Writing it down) but lets keep this thread up for some other guys to see too, any one else got pictures of their seedlings/poppies? i would love to see them. as they say pictures say a thousand words.

opuim does not do well with transplants

but before flowering use a 5-20-5 fert.

I have my opium seeds here, thing is I just don't know when to plant them, I'm in the UK.

ditto....ive been looking on the net for a while now but cant find anywhere that suggests planting times in the uk....ive been told the flower in november......but i dont know how long the period from seeding to harvesting is either.....but i know when to harvest.....LOL :stoned:

im getting ready to transplant them soon...

that is really what i plan to do, harvest around December.

i transplanted about 1/3rd of them in the soil that was in the ground, and none of them have died or anything. but a coule are still bending over because poppie sedlings do that. rastakaze here? i want to tansplant the rest, but not till i know how they are going to do. i still have ALOT of seeds though so no worries.

Ooooooh I'm sorry to tell you mate you have got to start over-- they are very young delicate plants and when touched even lightly can be stressed GREATLY. Just look at the lil' fellas. And with a full blown trans. I can't imagine the shock they've gone through. Let me give you MY method for germinating poppy seeds:

materials needed:
peat moss, emptied teabag, and (1) poppy seed

Stuff your emptied teabag with a heaping tablespoon peat moss and tie it up. I like to cut off any material after the knot to make things looks pretty but I guess it's not neccesary. Then I poke a hole in the peat with a toothpick or similar and drop the (1) poppy seed down the hatch. Place 'em in a dark, humid place for several days and when they pop bury them in their final pots (I think 2 liters work great, the plants have a very small root mass even at older ages) and place them in the shining sun.
