The Perfect cannabis arguement

ok so as cannabis users, all of us have to put up with arguements with our ignorant friends about whether or not cannabis is harmful. its key to stick to facts that will be tangible to them (for example, dont say that it doesnt give you cancer, because they wont beleive you and it will make all of your following points mute).

Here is how the arguements usually starts between me and my friends (i have decently smart friends):

me: so what exactly is so bad about marijuana? what exactly about it is so harmful?
friend:well first off its a fucking drug, its addictive, and it can give you cancer
me: so you think its right for marijuana to be illegal?
friend: yes
me: do you think that cigarettes and alcohol should be legal?
friend: (most of the time)yes
me:alcohol is much more harmful to your body than marijuana.
friend: how so?
me: (having no medical research at hand, am somewhat at a loss for words.) its addictive, it destroys your brain and liver
friend: (not convinced at all with my answer) marijuana is addictive
me: no, its not addictive. its habit forming, yes, but it isnt chemically addictive, so theres no physical withdrawals.
friend: (sarcrastically) isnt habit forming basically the definition of an addiction...
me: (another dead end..)

another point i try to make is that cigarettes are much worse than cannabis, because when they are manufactured chemicals like cyanide and formaldehyde are put in. but once again, this arguement falls short because i dont have a medical report in my hands (not that they would beleive it anyway)

and the whole "people have been doing it thousands of years" arguement is usually blocked (by and intelligent person) by something like: "well people have also been making human sacrifices for thousands of years. just because something has been around a while doesnt mean its healthy"

dont even try to prove that cannabis doesnt cause lung cancer, because without a picture of a marijuana user's lung, and a cigarette smokers lung in your hands for them to compare, its pointless to even try.

the ONLY arguement that ive ever made that they can't respond to is this: "well cannabis can be ingested to get the same effects as smoking, without any harm to your lungs" but their taboo of mj usually just makes brush it off, and end the conversation.

anyone with any advice on improving on these arguements, or if anyone wants to share their techniques then thatd be great.

if they dont have an open mind after stating an argument you should just say ok belive what you want just leave me alone about it and ill do the same. there problem solved!

mj actually does have affects that are harmfull to the body (brain). People below the ages of 19 are put at a much higher risk of harmfull brain deformailitis such as scytofranier and other mental conditions as there brains are still growing and the links between nuerological brain links in the mid brain and brain stem can be damaged. But this generally only happens over extended use of mj. lol!!!

Cannabis does not cause cancer. Inhaling carcinogenic smoke causes cancer. There are plenty of methods of ingestion that make smoking irrelevant and at the same time your friend's argument.

cannabis != smoke
smoke != cannabis

If he/they can't get over the smoking aspect to actually discuss the facts then you're just being preached to by someone who has been forced to watch DARE ads their whole life. Consider the source, have a good laugh, and move on.

to convince a sober person, first understand them...they put social status at a very high level of importance to judje people's action and habits...for me, it's easy to convince people pot is good because they would never expect it from me! i am a 19 yr old dude that makes a better salary than my parents...so i am responsible and all that shit on day time, and i fit in the system like an asslicking clerk...i understood how society works and you cant fight sober people by being the opposit you gotta act like a "spy"

so when i talk with people i never start with the subject, i let another conversation flowing and when we get to the point where they tell mestop smoking it's not good, i tell them :

"maybe for you, if you tried it and didn't like it, but try to find what is not okay with me? i am no retarded, i am not socially excluded, i have a good job that requires concentration and technical skills, etc, and if you think pot is addictive, it's all in your head my friend, because you have a living proof in front of you that it isn't, other wise my life would have been controlled by pot and i wouldn't be where i am, you understand? and i am considered a heavy user and you see no bad signs on me, you didn't even know i smoke cannabis!! it is all in you head! of course people over do it, like anything else, that is what life is all about, being able to balance things, and of course some people don't...but then if i am able to balance my consumtion, others can, i am not alone...so really "Dont critisize what you dont understand" and be aware that what you think is good or bad is relative to everybody else around you..."

and so i usually leave the conversation on a friendly note...the trick in a conversation is to stay calm, friendly, and make them feel guilty if they don't belive you like " well if you don't WANT TO trust me on what my life is, why are we even talking about it(laughing! and by the way capital words are important in this sentence)

but again for me it's easy as i have a certain image accepted by the sober (only talking about the close minded one) person, image is everything for them...

TMAR....i like your dedication in finding ways to counter attack a well webbed tissue of lie, need more people like that!

My argument for me using pot is short and simple.
Leave me the fuck alone. It's my life, my body. IMO, anything else is trying to convince another for reasons that are social and not personal.

The perfect cannabis argument should include total knowledge of Melatonin and, at least, a clue about the endogenous Cannabinoids system.

Don't let not having a medical journal infront of you stop you from making clear and provable statements. If you can go and find the studies then you should be able to make the argument and back it up later if they want you to. Also none of the anti-drug people ever hesitate to make claims like "marijuana is addictive" without having the studies to back that up. If they ask for proof of you points then present it and them turn the blamethrower back on them and ask for their proof.

today at school i decided to see what the school online resources had to say about marijuana. i just about wanted to shoot myself in the face. so then i decided to go to the FDA's website, and see what their position was on cannabis. i was actually pleased with what i saw. although the FDA didnt approve marijuana, it presented its research very objectively. The FDA has approved 2 medicines containing synthetic THC, and supports further research into the medical aspects of the botanical product. Although they do state that smoking the marijuana was an extremely harmful way of extracting the THC, and that different methods would have to be developed (didnt mention ingestion or vaporization).

all in all i didnt find anything that was blatantly biest against cannabis. im glad that there is at least one government organization that views marijuana scientifically instead of ethically.

But you have to realize that the FDA's approval of products containing synthetic THC as well as cannabis extract (Sativex) is not support for the marijuana movement. If anything it is exactly the opposite. These companies are capitalizing on a plant that grows in the dirt. They would lobby strongly against decriminalization because they can't make money off of their extract if you can make your own at home. These new "breakthrough" drugs containing THC are unfortunately becoming part of the problem not the solution.

Just ask yourself: If I can take a medication made from real cannabis extract why can't I just use real cannabis?

The FDA is becoming a political organization whose loyalty lies with the pharmaceutical industry. With the massive recalls of drugs lately I'd say their process of objective review of new medications borders on the criminal.

I don't have any friends that don't smoke but if I did I would ask them if they drank and why they drink.This is what pisses me off about people who bitch at us about smoking when they drink and they have no idea what they are doing when drunk.I have never once not known what I am doing when I have been stoned,maybe a little confused but that's it.
