this is how it works, stick your head in the 5- 10 gallon tub for 15 mins. blink 3 times while biting on 4 roots, if you come up out of the water after the full 15 mins with the roots still in your mouth---ph down
I have a pH meter, i just am looking for something to automate the dripping of pH down solution, or pH up as required. Hence I am looking for, a controller, a way to have it take care of itself as programed.

Complete Mini-Doser System (TDS/pH)
Your Price: $1,449.95 per Each
Most of the time Ph goes one way. Once it is set it's normal to climb most of the time more so then drop. so you can use the Milwaukee Ph system that uses tank CO² to control a fish tank. It also works for controlling res tanks too. You set the Ph you want to maintain and you get a digital reading. Makes keeping track of Ph easy.
You can get them from eBay. Again it cost money the setup is around 350 bucks.
Thanks, so the co2 brings pH down. This is done by aerating the reservoir with co2? I found the Milwuakee doser, so do i need to have 2 co2 tanks, one for the air and one for water, and if not is there a way to split the flow of air, 2 solenoids perhaps after a y-junction.

neptune sys.
Pricing starts at $174.95!

so can i use a controller like this to lower to 5.6pH, and if so would this use a lot of co2? Is it cost effective? I have a 60 gallon reservoir.
did I say gallon??? I meant litres.
Ok, so this thread is a little old, but I thought it better to continue the thread rather than start a new one.
I've looked at those controllers on ebay for about $75. The have the plugs for a CO2 tank. Could that plug just be used with a very small water pump, maybe a relay, and a reservoir of premixed acid? It seems like a pretty cheap way to do it.
I just don't wanna spend money to buy one before I know it'll work.
Ok, so I did a little more research, and the CO2 plug is actually just a 110/120V socket controlled by the ph monitor. So, that means that a solenoid valve could easily be controlled by it, allowing a drip acid injection system to be setup. I'll put up a nice tutorial when I have all the parts. What this all translates to is that an acid doser system can be setup for only about $100!

Bluefunk, blue lab also makes the trucheon which is a awfull meter. Then again the sell them in bulk for under 20 bucks usd so I guess we get what we pay for. Anyone have any more info on co2 ph adjusting. Very interesting the fish dont die from suffication.
Well, as far as the CO2 dosing, I'm pretty sure that your solution would become saturated with gas and you would not be able to adjust the ph further. All liquids have a limit to how much gas can be dissolved in them, it typically depends on pressure, temperature, and the fluid type.Quote:

karmaxul the truncheon is an awful meter? How so? I've been using one for 2 years now, calibration hasn't slipped.. thats bullshit. Truncheon is a reliable, accurate meter.
Ok, I've got most of what I need to build the doser, but I'm still looking for a good solenoid valve. Anyone wanna help my web search? Looking for something under $40 that I can connect 1/4" OD tubing (1/8" ID) to. 120VAC activation is preferred.
I was board so I started testing meters. With the trucheon I could add 4000ppm of epsom salt and have the meter read the same before and after on two seperate ones.
thats funny. I can add 1/4 of a teaspoon of epsom salts and the truncheon sky rockets... dunno what was wrong with yours.
Me neither I test two of them. I dont have them any more. They sell for 120 bucks and for the same price I can get a hanna 9044 which has a digital display, ph to the tenth, microsiemens, ppm, and temp. and is a constant monitor which plugs into the wall.
I have a Hanna grocheck (ph and EC) which is wall mounted like yoursand a cheap pH pen and bluelabtruncheon. All three are calibrated and I use them all to ensure my meters are accurate. Truncheon although does not have the two decimal places PRECISION, it still measures entirely accurately, I've tested it all through my grow with a range of concentrations and is as ACCURATE.
You had me doubting it again so I just tested. If you want I can show you a photo of before, adding nutes and the truncheon reading after to prove to you its not shit. but alas i cant be arsed and know my instruments are accurate
I'm not a big fan of hanna, all the ph checkers i got from then broke within 3 months of constant use..
Also where did you see them for $20? I'll have 10... sure you're not talking abuot the nutri-wand, the cheap imitation which costs about that?
I was pissed that it would not read epsom salt so I called the place in New Zealand to find out what was up. They told me they sell them as a promotion for there really accuarte testers for 19 bucks in bulk to the US. They are usually 120 in the stores. Some one is banking. I brought the ppm up to 1000 and then started dumping in epsom salt on both of them and the thing accually dropped one time. I like the way they light up when I stir the nutes and casting spells on the plants is cool but I just had a bad experience with them myself.
Get ready to see the auto ph doser setup. I'll be posting the tutorial in the next couple of days!
Cant wait. Any preposting info?
Well, everything together cost me just under $100 and is extremely simple to setup. Seriously, it's foolproof. You don't really need any construction skills for this one.
For how long is it automated to run for maintaince free?
Well, I'm just about to start writing up the tutorial, so just be patient ;-) But since you ask, it depends on how concentrated your acid reservoir is.
Ok, so here's the thread!

thanks. great info. I am appreciative.
you guys kick ass
Hey mountainman,
I am glad that this is a great topic of interest, but i did look at the post following this, what i am looking for is a comparison of using co2 to using the chemicals. Did you try both or just with chems?
I ask because i am finding myself adding about 7-10 ml of 15% nitric acid by optimum every 2-3 hours. I use an aero system with 80 holes and about 60L i use the Advanced nutes high yield formula, with a few extras.
Haven't tried the CO2. I have been dumping quite a bit of acid in, the bigger the plants grow or the more beneficials you have, the more change there is.
So my regime does not sound too far fetched?
I was completely worried. My last setup i only grew 40 holes. But i only had to pH twice every 24 hours, and i had to use a dropper. but now i have it so down pact that i use a whole 5 ml syringe shot straight up. And this sudden change scared me.
I found your pH controller thread, so how does it know how much to give. or is it run on a timer with the end constricted. I don't want to give it too much.
Because it takes a min to get an accurate ph reading.
