Don't know what to do with my life

I've been thinking about this recently..

I don't know what to do with myself.

I'm starting the second semester of my first year of college in a few days. I'm a good student, graduated highschool with a 3.0 and managed to get a 3.3 in my first semester of college.

I have four fantastic friends that i would do anything for and many acquaintences.

Lately though I have been thinking about what I want to do with myself after college. I am majoring in sociology, which is a pretty dead end major in terms of careers and such, and I don't really want to do anything in the sociology field anyway. In fact, the only reason I picked the major to begin with is it was the only major that appealed to me, and with the fact that my mother works at the college i attend = free tuition... I always knew i was going and never really had any opinion on it.

For the longest while I wanted to work in some branch of law enforcement..But with my increasing age and everchanging views on society, i've come to realize that I don't know if I can really handle the responcibility that officers of the law possess. Add onto the fact that I disagree with the drug laws (i like drugs, especially marijuana a lot :p) and the U.S. incarceration system is fucked up, I don't know if this is a career I still would want to follow.

I don't have a girlfriend. I don't know if i sincerely want one, or if it's just the image and social "norm" that I SHOULD have one baring down on me. I know, at least, i need to get laid, heh.

I don't have a job, but then again I don't really want one. I just kind of feel like a bum without one.

I don't really know the point of this thread, I guess it was sort of a rant or something? Don't worry though, i'm not about to run off and kill myself :) I just don't want to end up like 90% of Americans....working a 8-10 hour deskjob 5 days a week for a sub-par salary and little to no free time.

I've always kind of wanted to be done with school and to move on with my life. Now i realize it's really been the only direction i've had in my life. I need to start thinking of other things i'm interested in; finding another profession. Preferably one that doesn't do random drug testing ;)

Sometimes i wish i could just own a house and have a wife in some far off country. I wouldn't have any responcibilities and could just smoke pot and have sex all day. I know this isn't really viable, but hopefully it can be somewhat attainable without me wasting my entire life as a workaholic.

Law enforcement is one of the few industries that sociology can be applied. Finish it up, and then pursue a career in law enforcement. You'll see how much that background would benefit.

Everyone will now give you their verson of how to live your life but in the end you must make choices.

I say join the law enforcement.It would be healthy to work inside the system.Think how grateful 3 kids smoking a joint on the way to 7/11 would be to have been stopped by YOU instead of another asshole cop.

heres what you should do

find a mountain top or any other outdoor setting.[river,waterfall]

go alone and take a sleeping bag and some weed and drink.

make a fire

just spend some time alone in an open space and youll get some answers.

might be intense but when morning comes youll be refreshed.

if you got the guts for this then youll be a changed person

i agre. just find something you love doing an run with it. i find that charity work is rewarding and you can go far in it, educated or not.

Whatever you choose make sure you are happy w/ what you are doing.

Sounds like you should persue at least a M.S. or M.A., and proabably and PhD. Ifyou don't want a 9 to 5 job, higher education will help you. Don't do law enforcement, you won't get paid jack shit.

I for one have kinda thought about maybe farming. It seems like a lot of work but it would be really rewarding at harvest time.

But ya you could be a cool cop who doesn't bust people. You could be a D.A.R.E. officer and tell kids the truth about drugs.

The problem with becoming a cop is that you would HAVE to bust people for weed. If, two years down the road, you haven't busted a single person for it, the dept. is going to start wondering, you know? Yeah, you could let a person off here and there, but for the most part you would still have to do it.

Also, I'm not sure about other states, but here in WI cops have a quota of arrests/tickets they need to give out every month. They're friggen jerks towards the end of the months.

Man, I'm in the same boat as you. I'm majoring in psych, but god knows what I want to do with it. My biggest fear is getting a career that I will hate doing. I mean, who gives a damn about money when yer not happy?

become a drug dealer...solution to all your probs. you can work at home. cash in hand tax free, all the drugs you want, make new friends, its the perfect job.
