My first grow: 2 hydro, 2 soil (how do they look?)

I brought four clones home on 1/20. Two of them are G-13 x mango and the other two are Romulan Haze.

On 1/22 I bought 2 waterfarm hydroponic systems. I put one of each kind into a waterfarm and mixed up the nutrients recomended by General Hydroponics using distilled water. I left the other two in the cups I bought them in. I plan to transplant these two into three gallon pots in a few days.

I am currently vegging them under a 400 MH supplemented by 4 23w CFLs. As for ventilation, I have a 4" inline fan bringing in air from the rest of the house. To get the heat out, I have a 6" inline fan connected to the top of my hood. I have a fan in one corner circulating air over the plants.

The thermometer you see on one of the waterfarms stays between 70 and 80 degrees and humidity is around 65%.

My waterfarms use hydrotron clay rocks except for the 1x1 rockwool cubes the clones were started in. So far I have left the water on full time and I think this might be too much for them. What watering schedule would you recommend in these waterfarms.

How do these plants look to you. They dont look 100% to me and I cant figure out why.

My MH is very close to them (6-8"), could this be too close even though it stays below 80 degrees under the light?

Also, I have left them on a 24/0 light schedule so far. Should they be on 18/6 or can they be left at 24/0 for a shorter veg?

nice set up mate lookin good ,put you hand between the light and the plant if you feel it then its to near,some people prefer 24/0 some18/6 ,i prefer 24/0 as they grow better but thats my opinion and it looks like a water prob hope it helps a bit but lookin good

you need to get that water schedule im not that up in hydro but they dont look good , your soil ones look ok, somebody help this guy out they plants need help

I would only do 18/6 if you cant afford the money to just have the light on for 24 hours, if you can afford it then I think you should do 24/0.

the one on the right in the first post is actually the Romulan haze in soil.

The drip you can leave on 24/7 but the distilled water is the question. Are you adding back cal-mag plus and a little hydrogen peroxide. your temps don't sound bad. What's your water temp that should be close to 68 % for max oxy content. Hydro likes it cool.

god this is killin me i wish i new the water scedule but i dont think it shoul be on constant i think its some thing like every three hours ,but check it out now as those dont look good and how often are you watering your soil grows

no I only added the nutrients to the distilled water and adjusted the PH to 6. I need to get a water thermometer. I am sure the water isnt above 68 but it might be way too cold.

where can I get cal-mag plus, and how much of that, along with hydrogen peroxide should I add?

on the soil grows I water them untill it drips out the bottom and then leave them for about 2 days

how often you feeding your soil grow they look like they have a nute prob

how often you feeding your soil grow they look like they have a nute prob or are being overwatered maybe a little bit to much love and care

I haven't fed them yet. What should I be feeding them and how often

kinda weird you posting trichomes login information like that scoobie funny how ur posting more an more as of mr trichomes fraud discovery.. bu anywayz for clones they looking alright a couple those pictures look like they have a case of radiant burn on them so i'd advice you to lift that mh a few more inches also they seem alil waterlogged which if u read up on it is common with new hydro growers i wouldnt advise going into anything that has to do with trichome creater or his allies a snitch or person with disshonorable qualities is only as good as those around him..jus my :twocents:..good luck

Looks like those plants leaves are struggling not to turn yellow........

Cut way back on the feeding........

Let the soil get fairly dry before watering........

They are still so small, their water and nute needs are VERY low........

Remember, your watering goes DOWN in the Winter.........

They look good, and will be ok........

Those are some GREAT genetics..........

Please be nice to your girls and love them...................

And when the grow is over, they will show you now much they love you!

I think I figured out what my problem was with the hydro plants.

Today my See More Buds DVD came in the mail. Two important things I got out of this movie were to:

1. use foil covers over the rocks to prevent mold/algae growing on the rockwool or the hydrotron rocks.

2. monitor the PPM of the nutrient solution

I spent $250 at the hydro shop today on a nice digital PPM and PH sensor. I caliabrated the sensor and then checked my water. Both plants had a PPM of about 1900 which I guess is way to high.

So today I mixed a batch of nutrients using tap water and GH nutrients at the ratios recommended by See More Buds. The PPM is now around 640 with a PH of 6.5 in both.

I also raised the light about 6" and put the watering system on a hour on hour off timer.

Now I will wait and hope my changes help. I will post more pictures either late tonight or sometime tommorrow.

not on the issure but if you dont mind i see your using GenHydro WaterFarms units ...how do you like then and are they ez to set up and use ???i ask because the inst say that mostly they are self containrd and only require topping off with a diluted nuet mix (when your using the smaller controler). if you are using the controler are you also ckin the buckets and return lines for PH bal? thanks

So far I like the waterfarm systems. I dont have any separate reservoir or controller. I just bought the two units and plugged each of the air pumps into a separate plug.

The waterfarms come with everything you need....Except for a meter that will tell you the PH and PPM (strength) of your nutrient solution. This almost killed my plants. I mixed the nutrients in the kit at the strength recommended by GH. My plants never seemed to really take to this...infact they showed signs of burning. When I finally bought a meter I found that my PPM was 1900 when it should have been closer to 500.

The other problem I am having with the waterfarms is figuring out the proper watering schedule. I started out with the air pumps on all the time. This left my plants looking way overwatered (and burnt due to the PPM). Yesterday I put the water on an hour on hour off timer and this didnt dry them out at all. Today I put them on a one hour on, two hours off watering schedule.

dude im basacially usin the same kinda systen (drip feed recovery) w hydroton and DNF (Dutch Nuet Formula) w 3 hrs off 15 min feeding and this is the result (germed in rockwool w plain water) after 14 days. i came in 25% low with the nuets - w/a 7 gal resv change the food every 5-6 days on 16 hr photoperiod. all ive done was to da EXACTLY what ive heard here and not fuck around with anything. i figured if others are sucessful who am i to try to reinvent the wheel?
