How long does it take for the plants to become sturdy, like a centimete in the diameter of the stem?
It shouldnt taketoo long.Keep a good oscilating fan on your plants constantly, this will help your plants develop strong, sturdy stems.
would a reglar house fan work if it was on low?
Yeah, that'll work.
yeah a household fan is ideal....but dont point the fan directly on your plants mate...bounce the air flow around the plants and success will come..after a couple of days you should be able to notice a slight difference..good luck with the grow... ;)
I am just curious how long it usually takes from when the plant sprouts untill you see the first set of 5 or 7 pointed leaves?
most strains show thit pattern.first set of single round, followed by set of single pointed. then they get a set of three, then five, then seven. some strains will keep going up to eleven.
how long wil it take between each set?
depends on many things. if your plants are at their peak of nutes., getting 18 hours of light, and have plenty of air to breath they may get a new set at least every day. i've seen a plant grow a couple inches a day with two new sets of leaves a day under optium conditions.
my plants grow about 1 thru 2 inches a day, but no new leaves have came yet.
they may need more light, or have the lights closer to them. if they are just about to flower they may just be streching for the buds to grow.
they are just sprouting.
I have 3 plants growing in my closet right now. I'll try and barrow my friends digital camera later and see if I can get some pics. Anyways, I just took some plants that were growing in a flower box from my friends house (he said it was cool, I didn't steal em :p ).
Two of them are I'd say around 8 inches tall, maybe more. One is pretty little, maybe topping off at an inch. I wasn't sure what to do exactly, as I've never grown anything before, specially indoors. I got these two lights at home depot 120watts each. They're called Agro lights, I'm sure their not that great, but they'll make due I suppose. I have the lights about a foot above the plants, it's 85 degrees in there in the day, and about 72 at night. I turn the light off from 11pm-5am. I also have a small fan circulating air around in there, and I put some dry ice in there, I figured it would help. They are in about 1 gallon pots, and I have just miracle grow for vegatables or something like that in each.
I've only had em growing in my closet for 2 days, and I'm not sure if they were like this when I got them or not, but on one of the plants the lower leaves (there's only about 3 teers of leaves right now) are a little yellow, and on the other plant some have little brown holes in them as if they were dying. Also on the bottom 6 inches of it (it was like this when I got it), there are no leaves at all. I'm not sure if these are male or female or not, I was hoping to just let you guys decide once I get somes pics. Hope I'll get some good advice, I'm sure I'm doing alot wrong, and there's tons of room for improvement.
edit: Oh shit lol, I meant to make a new post... this isn't a good first post at all.... Can a moderator please fix this or something. Sorry for fucking up this thread.
666, even sprouts need light. what kind of lights are you using? flos. should be no more than six inches away from the top. hid lights need to be at least a foot or so.
2000, sounds like you need more ferts.
dylan, I am using a HPS light (400 watt) that is 16 inches above the plants, it is running 24/0 now. I also have ventilation and air movement.
i dont know, maybe try giving them a few hours of dark. how are the ferts.? or could it be heat(even though their is ventilation)?
Cannabis is a C3 plant so it doesn't need any dark in veging (cannabisculture.com) and I beleive ferting this early burns them, I'm going to wait it out and see, I'll kepp u posted.
i would put some ferts. on them. i use 1/2 to 1/4 strength from the start and get no burning. i even germinate in 1/4 strength solution. it gives them a big head start. short, stout, with a fat stem. maybe you can try it on a plant or two as an experiment.
that seem reasnable (1/4) ill try and see how it goes.
