I heard some where that baking soda brings pH lvls up.
ohh nice one , ill give it a try ,one more thing
doe anyone use a PH probe to test PH levels ?
long thin probe u stick into soil or water ......?
are they accurate ?
Those stick are for soil and fairly accurate when new. Baking soda is a good PH up just like orangeman says.

vinigar ph down
how much baking soda and when????
intresting thread watching eagerly
intresting thread watching eagerly does the vinegar or baking soda go in water or straight into soil
VERY good question?? SOMEONE answer please// also I would recommend egg shells or orange lemon peels to lower ph
or a squirt of anything acidic will lower ph
In the water
and to answer when...when your PH is too high or too low.
Do you have a PH tester?if not go get one NOW!
For soil it should be 6.8-7.0
For hydro it should be a litlle lower ,I think around 6.0
To figure out how much to use expirament...start with a tiny dose and test then go from ther.

If using baking soda to raise PH - add 1/2 teaspoon to each 2 gallons of water to get about a 1 ph increase. This means that be adding 1/2 teaspoon to each 2 gallons of water your ph say if it started at 5.0 would be raised to about 6.0. All of these other additives folks are recommending will work but do not come with instructions. If you are having PH problems go to the pet shop and ask for a complete PH test kit they will give you both the tester and the PH up and down for not much $$$ at all and it will take away all this guess work. Lemon juice is low in PH yes but how much do you add and does it have a residual effect what about egg shells? I mean this is 2006.
Never add any of this to the soil always to the water - the water is easy to test the soil is not. Somethings that are acidic are also toxic. Get your self some Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) and Sodium Biophosphate (PH down) and a small test kit and this PH question will be put to rest. For soil your PH should be 6.3 - 6.7, for Hydro it should be 5.8 - 6.5. These figures are optimal many other PH's will work also.

Its pointless to revive an ancient thread just to chastise a poster who had not visited these forums since Feb of '06 and is not likely to return to reply with a rebuttal.:rolleyes:Quote:
