Guess what? The world will never be the same after today!
I just discovered the reason people laugh. When what people see in their mind as the best possible scenario for a given situation and what they see with their eyes match closely enough, some people will laugh. Obviously there are different responses from different kinds of people in different situations, this explains people being classified as enjoying morbid humor, slapstick, british, etc. When this happens, nerves in the brain fire "laughter neurons" that stimulate laughter. Early on in human evolution, this was a primitive way for humans (and indeed some chimps and other members of the great ape category) to signal to each other that a given situation that they're experiencing is not dangerous. [this was well before human speech had evolved and is the key factor in “the missing link” as well and thusly the main thing blocking today's chimpanzee from developing into the more advanced species] These responses were crucial to early human's survival, and are at the very basis for our need to establish societies and civilizations. That laughter affects humans this way is the primary reason why women list a sense of humor as number one in their list of desirable personality traits. For example, the reason that saturday night live is no longer funny is that writers are trying to write a skit, instead of just tell a story and let the skit match what your mind's eye would imagine best for the situation, as they did in the early years. If they would just tell the story and let it flow then the comedy would naturally happen, instead of saying ok: we got an idea, now lets expand on it and develop plot. Just let it flow and you will bring the funny every time! Go back and watch earlier shows and this will become very apparent to you. What they ought to be doing (such as the cases of the early simpsons and current family guy) is just let it flow, make crazy and random things happen in the show and have tragic consequences and make those wild and weird circumstances be the center of the storyline. And if you end up with a strange and random solution to the conflict, then you'll know you have succeeded. Some vague warning of not learning any lesssons is also a good end point. Lorne Michaels is ruining SNL because he hires shitty comedians (who suck and are scared to just let loose, go nuts and be crazy) and writers who try to write out skits with some kind of mathematical formula instead of telling the story. Seth McFarlane is a genius and matt groening was too before he lost his creative driving force (no money! same reason as lorne michaels) it will happen to seth mcfarlane too, sadly. Gets the best of them in the end.

Well the joke's on you my friend. That paragraph is a test developed by the government, it's a new mental drug test. If you don't understand the paragraph and can't give the police a brief explanation of it, they kill you on site, no questions asked. I suggest, for your own safety, that you reread it and understand it, otherwise they WILL come after you. Let this be a warning to you all, smoke up and read the paragrahph. If you do then by now you'll know i'm right. Try it, I will be waiting here. "I said good day sir!"

what they SHOULD be doing? they are doing that buddy, go watch some british humor! it's riddled with off of the wall random things mixed with tragedies and things that just would seem sad if they weren't so damn funny.

Geez, this board has gotten waay too hostile for a weed forum. :(

Different people have different senses of humor. Americans are stupid so they like stupider types of humor, and so our sitcoms suit us.

Humor formula
Required components:
* some surprise, contradiction, ambiguity or paradox.
* appealing to feelings or to emotions.
* similar to reality, but not real
Methods:
* metaphor
* hyperbole
* reframing
* timing
Good thoughts, but wikipedia and adaisychain would beg to differ. Humor varies alot from person to person. I think you're way off at the beginning of your post, but as you move on you get closer to what I believe. It's all just guesses though.

good ideas in the paragraph, but you jump around way to much to ever make an arguible point to any psychologist. You need to take each main idea, wihch tends to be every other sentence or so, and sepperate them into their own paragraphs, and work from there.
For the most parts your points are valid, but you sound like more of a stoner than a scholar. atleast to me.

well you're right. but listen to this, this is true:
The Wingdings Font included with Windows has anti-semitic messages encoded. In 1992, only days after the release of Windows 3.1, it was discovered that the character sequence "NYC" in Wingdings was rendered as Skull and crossbones symbol, Star of David, and thumbs up gesture. This could be interpreted as a message of approval of killing Jews, especially those from New York City.
Microsoft strongly denied this was intentional, and insisted that the final arrangement of the glyphs in the font was largely random. Ya right.
-
Guess what? The world will never be the same after today!
what ARE wingdings anyway. i mean i know what they are but what are they?
-
Guess what? The world will never be the same after today!
just a font that's impossible to read because it's all symbols.
-
Guess what? The world will never be the same after today!
windings is a font on word in which all the characters are replaced with symbols.

this is the same as all of that 9/11 links bs. but since i agree with masta that this board is getting too heavy, ill just say that if there wasnt some secret message in NYC, then there would have been one in USA or NAACP etc. its unavoidable.
