Middle School Student Shot by SWAT Team
LONGWOOD, Fla. - A suicidal eighth grader who pulled a handgun in class and forced another child into a closet was shot by a sheriff's SWAT team member Friday when he later threatened deputies, Seminole County officials said.
Sheriff Don Eslinger said the 15-year-old boy brought the gun to Milwee Middle School in his backpack. Eslinger said two students saw it and one persuaded the other to report it, causing a scuffle.
The alleged gunman told one of the students to go into a closet, ran from the classroom and "traveled with this firearm throughout the campus," Eslinger said. Deputies eventually isolated him in a restroom, and the school was evacuated.
"At one time he held the gun to his neck. As the deputies attempted to establish dialogue, he raised the firearm and lethal force was used by the sheriff's office," Eslinger said.
The boy was taken to the hospital. His condition was unknown.
"He was suicidal," Eslinger said. "During this standoff, and during the chase, the student said he was going to kill himself or die."
No one else was injured. Officials with the sheriff's office said they had not confirmed whether the gun the boy had was real or a toy.
Classes were canceled for the rest of the day, and frantic parents arrived to pick up their children.
"When I saw the news, I just couldn't believe this was my daughter's school. I came right away," said Anil Santos, whose daughter, Aleister, is in eighth grade.
Sarah Tivy, 12, said some students were frightened, but she appeared calm.
"I just figured that if someone is going to bring a gun to school, then they need to be taken out of school," she said.

Sooo are you for gun-control--I was reading a post on another website and this dude try to explain it was the guns fault that the boy was confused(I wish i saved that post).....LoL---Its a shame that people can make guns the enemy but really its the person action that caused it......
Middle School Student Shot by SWAT Team
Thank goodness for home school. That's how my kid will get educated.
You think the cops will ever reveal the truth about the kid's gun - maybe it was a fake? No matter, it's the kid's fault for even pretending to have a real gun if that's the case. It's never the gun's fault. However, was it necessary to use "lethal force"???
Middle School Student Shot by SWAT Team
They were really psyched. Finally, some action! They put on their costumes, shout commands at each other and load their guns. So what if the target ends up being a kid? They wanted to shoot someone and they had a legal way to kill them. Morals be damned. This is entertainment, SWAT style

I'm not for gun control unless your talking about some lil' dumb ass taking into a school system. To bad for him and I guess his buddies learned a hard lesson in life because of it! Oh well, to bad so sad!

What a coincidence, the first place I ever smoked weed was in Longwood Fl
The cops were 100% right. A 15yo kid with a gun is just as dangerous as a 30 yo with a gun. WTF is a 15yo doing in the 8th grade anyway. Shit, I was a junior in high school by the time I was 15. At least no one can use the "he was an exemplary student, why'd they shoot him" sob story for this one. I can't wait to hear Pissy's comments on this one :p

You guys are conspiracy theory nuts..well some of you.. They have already admitted it was a BB Gun, and he got his ass shot after he pointed it at the Police. It appears to be a attempted Suicide by Cop since he was telling classmates he wanted to die, and was Poiting the BBGun at his throat before turning it on SWAT members.
5 bucks its a black kid too. And yes..Drugs are bad...( =

And about the 15 year old being in 8th grade, You gota remember. This is Florida we are talking about. The same state that wanted to lower the Passing Grade for Blacks/Latinos to 45, because they said the current testing is Biased towards Whites and unfair to Minorities.

yeh, that kid shouldve known he was dead meat.
but two questions though...
was he on any medication?
how do we know that he didnt need any?
ah well, no need to pose any tough questions or anything. it's a stretch, but if nothing was medically wrong with the fuck then blast him to hell.

Hundreds of studies have been done on gun control. The best was preformed by a Yale economist named John Lott in the study " more guns, less crime." It is the largest study ever conducted on the effects of gun control laws. After examining every county in the nation over two decades, Lott and his colleagues found that the more restrictive the gun control laws in a given county, the HIGHER the crime rates. In general, when counties pass right-to-carry laws, which allow people of sound mind who have no criminal record to carry guns, their crime rates go down.
You can voice your opinion if you want, but I bet nobody can find a study that tops this one. Guns for everyone!!

The news I read said that he was bullied and supposed to be in a fight Friday over a girl. It also said his organs were being harvested (donated).

Ha Ha Ha yeah and have a look at your crime with more guns, Murder 1million, armed robbery 2million Ok so if he was threating to shoot the officer then I just don't get why they just can't shoot him in the knee or better still why couldn't they taken the gun off him with that many officers you'd think they would be able to do that.I just don't get it.

The article said that he raised the weapon, and deadly force was used. That sounds like he was asking for it.
Police officers and the military are not trained to do "trick" shots. When police fire a weapon, they shoot to kill. It's a "last resort", but necessary in some cases. Your Hollywood images of cowboys, and other people, shooting a gun out of a somebody's hand, firing a "warning" shot in their leg, etc., is not realistic: When lives are at stake, and a person of ANY age is using a firearm against the public and/or police, are warned to drop it and surrender, then it's too bad but deadly force must be used when they refuse to comply.
Contrary to the image that most of the world has of America, most police officers never fire a gun at anyone during the course of their careers. Most criminals know that once the cops are there, whatever they were doing is over.
A lot of people, usually women, come up with the "why didn't they shoot him in the leg" line. They aim for the body - because that's the best, and easiest, target.

The article said...I read ALOT but does not mean I believe it all. Even "eyewitnesses" to the same crime see things different.

Its a sad story but the cops were completely justified in shooting. If I were confronted by a kid who wanted to rob me and he had a weapon that looked like a .44 mag or whatever I would have shot his bitch ass too!

Excellent point and one that most people never take into consideration. Police are trained to shoot when they feel their safety or the safety of others is in jeopardy. While traing may be good it can never take the place of real life and, as Breukelen points out, most never even experience that situation in their life. When and if it does happen most likley they are scared shitless, like you or I would be, and simply react to save themselves. Its instinct and can't be trained out of a person.
People tend to assume that police have some kind of superpower that makes them immune to stress and adrenalin. This isn't the case. Nor do police have a superpower that gives them the ability to instantly analyze the situation and determine if its a real gun or not. All they know is that someone who might be threat to their life has just made a potentially agressive move. So they raise their gun and shoot, hoping to hit the target before the target hits them.
