The price of cafe membership really went up.

Oh the old thread of this got deleted, did I lose all my posts in there? Not been here for a few days apart from a couple of posts last night so I don't know if I've lost those many posts I made in there.

The cafe members only area has been improved more with the addition of the MedPot Forum and related features...

The main reasons for the price increase from $25 per year to $50 per year are:

1. Further discourages those thinking / attempting to abuse cafe membership; we reserve the right to suspend / terminate any cafe member at any time ... so anyone thinking of abusing cafe membership will be going through money even faster now.

2. We no longer accept credit cards for cafe membership due to the nature of the cafe ...

...and also in large part because most credit card processors consider many types of on-line memberships, software downloads, e-books, etc to be "high risk" - the volume of credit card cafe memberships we put through so far has been relatively small, and hasn't effected our processing status, but we had been taking an evergrowing risk - thus it was prudent to totally eliminate credit card processing of cafe memberships.

3. Related to #1 and #2, increase labor / effort of maintaining the cafe members areas / features, and manually processing every cafe membership, including additional email correspondence, more post office trips, payment tracking / pickups, etc.

Interesting idea about the reward points ... and one I'd mostly forgotten about, since such a program was proposed at one time, along with a referral program.

yeah that is a bit steep considering the only extra features are a bigger avi and the ability to put wittisisms under my username.
I don't even use the medpot forum, nor am I aware of any other special features or perks for being a member.
I've asked for some that I didn't get too.
Yet here I still am loyal, posting and mostly cute.
You should seriously reconsider that member price ron. There wherent many members when it was $20, there going to be none left now.

Well not to make everyone hate me :) but I say give the man a break. :) You don't have to pay if you don't want access. It's only $50/year which is like less than $5/month and you get extra features that thousands of other users don't get. This is similar to my site except I only accept donations I don't have upgrade options really, but I guess you can consider it that way since I give my donators a couple of extra features.

The bottom line is you don't have to have cafe access, in fact like he said one reason for $50 charge is so that not everyone becomes a member. How would you feel special if it was so cheap everyone paid and got access?

How about some new extra features for those of us who are crappy old non-paying members? :) Are there any U.S. laws against your site allowing 'wantads'?

regardless, still too much. won't be suprised to see a big drop in cafe memberships
