Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????

A question to all those who know a thing or two
Do ALL cuttings produce kholas?????
What is the science here?..does the plant automatically designate it's highest point as the khola site and make it into a corn cob?
Will a clone taken from the middle of one plant ...grow into a replica of an uncloned plant[ with a TOP KHOLA]???????????????????????????
If I take 4 clones from 1 mother ....Will they ALL produce a TOP KHOLA??
This one is really boggling me.....please help!!!

Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
if the clone was from the primary branch it will have the top cola.
if it were a normal branch then no, but that doesn't mean it can't grow big buds
-
Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
I wouldn't worry about the colas too much. I like the buds from the middle parts of the plants. They seem to have much more flavor imo. Anyway I believe your ? was answered so that's my 2 cents. lol

OK this is how a plant works. First when it grows, it starts to grow branches which aer attached to SINGLE leaves. So as of right now, the plant has a stem and single leaf branches. It then starts to grow extra branches RIGHT ABOVE the single leaf branches. These new branches are basically another plant being grown on that main plant. That other copy is what is called the clone. It's called a clone because it essentially IS THAT VERY SAME PLANT. If you were to cut it and make it start growing roots, it would be like regrowing that big plant all over again. People like HARDDON like to grow by bending their plants over so that those clones that are still growing on tha plant itself can get direct light so they can grow better. Those people do this because having those secondary shoots grow, they are inturn multiplying their end yield. If you grow it long enough, each of those secondary shoots will also have ITS OWN secondary shoots. It's kinda like seeing a picture of a guy holding a picture of a guy holding a picture...etc. I hope this helps. Goodluck.

Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
Yeh that's interesting man...So every branch should have a top khola? because every branch is a mini plant.....??? what about the percentage of branches to roots....if I take clones ...each clone will develop roots.....More so than one large plant could...???
AAAAAAAAAAAA what a head ache .I'm doing my torchured scientist impression
-
Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
Every plant or clone or whatver has a top cola unless you cut it to promote side growth. This is called topping. Where you got the idea that some clones wont have a top cola is WAY beyond me. But, in order to properly root a clone you need a few things like rooting gel and some other stuff I can't recall off the top of my head. Goodluck.
-
Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
Clones generally have less roots then plants grown from seed. I was high as a kite earlier and didn't really read the first response you got. If all clones didn't develope colas SOG wouldn't be worth a shit.
Well that was my little venture into sobriety so I'm off to go smoke this spliff.
lol

YES- COLAS ... all cuttings produce colas...
the main cola of a plant is, the main cola of the plant... pretty cool HUH!

you are funny...

Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
genetically though a seed grown plant should have the biggest cola
the primary branch is the one with the huge fan leaves and has the biggest bud
any clone can have a primary cola as well but this will always genetically be secondary growth unless the clone was made from the top of the seed grown plant which then will have the potential for a bigger cola than its mother
I think I have read that a long time ago anyway :-)
doesnt matter to me though I always top the plants and chuck the top
-
Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
chuck the top?
why not use it as a clone?
-

yeah If I want to take the chance of it being male :-)

A clone is just that a clone. It's an exact copy of the plant it was taken from.

Not always true, the fan leaf size is how the plant regulates the international temperature of the plant. You can find large fan leafs growing where the plant needs them to grow.

Not correct a clone is just that a clone. A clone by definition is an exact copy of the plant it was taken from. Nothing more nothing less it's a copy.

Then you are tossing a good clone to bad for you.
The main cola is where the plant gets itâ??s instructions from. That is where the plant stores the antioxidants that control height and some other elements of the plant growth. Every clone will regenerate those antioxidants once the roots have good growth and the plant is growing on itâ??s own. By cropping the main cola and removing those antioxidants allows the side branches to catch up and it also keeps the plant shorter and bushier.
Thought I would clear up a few things for everyone.

Does heat stress result in increased number or size of fan leaves?
Another question. If you top a plant as usual, but end up with three main branches instead of two...what happened?
Thanks
Dboy
-
Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
Yes heat is the No 1 cause for a female plant to turn hermie and heat will produce very large fan leaves.
Not sure what you mean by what happened? Cropping can produce 2,3 or even 4 stocks it's not totally out of the question. Once the antioxidants are out of the picture the plant can grow a little wild. I have a cropped mother that has 4' side shoots. They need support to hold them up but they keep growing and growing.

Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
That is why some of my females turned hernie..Too hot..I fixed that problem however..
-
Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
Ok you must be right of course Zandor. I may have read wrong a long time ago then. So It doesnt matter if I take a clone from a seconday branch. That clone can develop an exact copy of the mother's main cola??
-
Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
And by this Zandor.....A clone can grow on to become a mother plant? If a clone is an exact copy of it's mother? Thanks for the knowledge...Easy

Yes a clone can be made a mother. However, after time, it will lose some of the potency.
A clone, while even a youngster, still maintains the true genetic age of the mother regardless of when it is taken.
This is true in dogs, sheep and plants.
So while a clone may be three weeks old, it is still the age of the mother plant on a genetic basis according to when the cutting was made.
Thus, a clone taken from a 6 month old mother, is a 6 month old clone...genetically.
THis is why it will degenerate in time. Mothers are usually good for about a year for producing good potent clones.
It will degrade from that point forward.
-
Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
Thankyou Hardon that is well explained and makes perfect sense.
-
Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
Guess my 5 year old mother must suck now.
Yes the clone shares the age of the mother guaranteed that is true.
But potency is still a factor of environment more then just age. Proper environment and nutrients will control potency and I define anybody to tell between 22% and 20% THC. You may be right but I think it takes more years then just a few for genetics to degrade.
5 years is a little old for a mother but I can't bring my self to flower her just yet. She still produces 100 clones at a time.
BTW........welcome back harddon
-
Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
Wow.. A five year old plant.. How big is it?
-
Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
Yea I always wondered how big mothers get to be. I was told the genetics of a plant disallow it from growing past a certain height. If the plant stops growing in height, then where would it produce more clones from? I'd love to be enlightened about what exactly happens to a plant if it stays in vegative state...forever.

Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
I just cut it back and keep it under 400w MH 18/6 every day. It still gets high humidity after each time I take clones and recovers quickly. She is just about 5 ft tall and I need to keep a tomato thing around her some of the side shoots are not that strong. She has been kept in a C-13 cabinet all her life so the walls supported the stems. If her stock thicken up and get stronger I may keep her until the end of this year just to see how she does. I should replace her but it will take like 4 of mothers to give me as many clones as she can. It is time for new strains around here. I guess I should flower her after the next round (if I can bring my self to do it).
See even I can't make up my mind. :)
So far the clones are all fine and the smoke is first rate A quality buds. Not much else I could ask for.
-
Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
Zandor,
Thanks for the WB....but I just come and go......can;t say I will ever come back....but I do miss most of you all.
As for the age / quality regression....
You mother will be fine of course. My reference to the degradation was in taking a clone of a clone of a clone....to turn to mother plants.
You will weaken the strain each time a clone is taken from a clone. After a few hits, yes who gives a shit though if its still good?
I wont complain.
I thought all your shit was taken in a break in last year? DId they miss your 4 year old mother plant?
-
Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
Now I'm confused......If clones inheret the mother's genes and age ....should they not perform the same as the mother who is kept alive along side the clones, who is both the same age as the clones and the same genotype?
A clone taken from a mother is the same age and has the same DNA.So that clone becomes identical to the mother. So why then will a clone taken from the mother be any different to a clone taken from the clone?
This is where the theory runs into contradiction of itself!
As for plants that are kept alive for many years....I could understand that they might loose potency with age......Is this not the same as an old man not having the strength he had as a young man...or an old woman who stops menstsrating?
Zandor, If you can't bring yourself to bloom your old friend....Why don't you take seeds from her ,that her genetics might live on
-
Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
Yes they got the harvest not the room. The room is in a lock place they did not enter. They only took my harvest but no plants. At that time Mother was in the garage in a C-13 cabinet.
You are 100% right about a clone to clone to clone degradation.
Well I hope you stick around dude.
I'm still looking for someone to write a good thread we can make an FAQ on what CFL to use and how to use them properly for a quality grow.
You up for that challange?

Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
Sure Zandor I will write one up for you all. Gimme a few days.
Let me shine some light on the cloning / age issue.
This was first discovered when Dolly the sheep was cloned and it opened new insight into the genetics of cloning....
When a clone is taken, the exact genetic copy is made.
Dolly the sheep was made from cells taken from a 6 year old mother sheep. Sheeps live to be about 12.
Dolly the sheep lived bright happy and healthy for 6 years...or....ONE HALF the average life span.
When finding out why Dolly and all other cloned animals were dieing at one half the age of normal life expectancy, research began.
It was then discovered that as cells age, genetic strands are lost each time a cell duplicates. So when the cells are originally harvested from the mother, they are AGED CELLS.
Dolly the cloned sheep lived 6 years....or....exactly the same age as her orignal cells should have lived. And did.
So if a horse lives to an average of 20 years, and you clone from the mother at age 15 years, the resulting cloned horse will only live about 5 years.
Taking clones and making them mothers and then cloning those, etc....will weaken the gene pool as the clones age per the original genes, regardless of the age of the clones.
This is why if you are young, or have kids, TAKE AND PRESERVE DNA SAMPLES NOW. The younger the better.
As for tomato plants, clones from clones from clones, will have exaggerated declines in potency. If super strong tomatos, it will be difficult to notice....however, rest assured the age is still tied back to the originating source no matter what or when and the genes continue the inevitable decline.

Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
Interesting . Now I'm reminded about how DNA replication in cell division is a process that loses it's capacity over time. Where certain parts/strands /segments of chromazonal DNA are forgotten/left uncopied as cells divide and reproduce as the organism in question ages.
But how does taking a clone from a clone from a clone [[from a clone ]xn ] reduce the genetic vigour/potency of a strain?
Dolly lived 6 years untill her death because she inherited her mothers immediate age and condition. If a clone was to be taken from Dolly when dolly was 3 years old, the clone would be expected to die in 3 years time along with Dolly and the original mother.
I can only assume that Cannabis plants loose potency with age . Would a clone taken from a 7 year old skunk tree be as strong as as a clone taken from the same skunk tree when it was 1 year old? No ...Surely it would be weaker,as the mother from which the clone was cut would have have lost some zap with age..
How then does taking a clone from a clone, and so on "accelerate" the decline of phenotypic strength in the progeny over the generations?
I'm sure I'm missing something radically significant...

Does this mean our genes have our time of death written in them? This is an interesting topic.

Do All Cuttings Produce TOP KHOLAS????
depends on the genetics... plants arent animals and have different cell structure
for example Salvia Divinorum rarely sets seed in the wild. Its branches break off and find moist earth and grow roots naturally. Most of the plants alive in circulation today are from clones taken in the 60's. Are they less powerfull??? I wouldn't know that but I do have some leaf that contains 3.5 to 4 mg of slavinorin per gram.
also there are trees that are the oldest life form on the planet.
