Is it possible to spot female with a neon under (12/12) cycle.

I'm an outdoor grower and I received my seeds today for next summer.

I do not have the proper equipment to flower them indoor and I have no intention to do so but I still need to spot females to start cloning.


My question:
Is it possible to spot female with a neon under (12/12) cycle.

I just want to be able to spot males in order to clone the females.

If I put a plant under a simple neon at a 12/12 cycle, will the plant be able to show sex?

I would guess that yes. Even if it's a crappy light.

But, I suggest you have your plants...
Take a clone from each.
Then put those clones under 12/12... leave your plants 18/6 (or whatever... just vegging).
After the clones show sex, then you know what plants are females and which are males.

After, get rid of your males and flower your certified females.

Does putting a plant trough a flowering cycle diminish it's possible quality outcome?

Neon light is not enough light to grow your plants period.

If you want to start them in veg early then use CFL once they are large enough (like turtle said) take a clone from each plant and mark them so you know what plant they came from. Root those clones and flower them once the clone showes it's sex you know what the parent it came from is.

It's not good to flower them and then take them back to veg cycle. You will not have as much yeld as you want if you do. They will go back and flower early and the growth will stunt. Once the plant is in a flower cycle it puts it energy into making flowers and not growing as much as the veg cycle.

Cool bulbs (6500k) are best for seedling, cloning and vegetative growth.

(4000k) Are best for general growth and flowering

I've never done it but you could use the paper bag method.

Get a small paper bag or something similar that is lightproof a paper bag will not be suitable for strong HID lighting, and a plastic coated twist tie.

Select a plant that you would like to sex and choose a growing tip. Take the paper bag, place it over the top of the selected tip and seal with the twisty tie. Then, to simulate the flowering phase, simply remove the bag after the 12hr dark period, and replace when the 12hr day cycle ends.

After 7-14 days, the growth-tip you covered should start showing signs of its sex.

Caution should be taken when closing the bag too tightly around the branch.
A small opening should be left open to allow air exchange and prevent heat buildup. Black materials tend to heat up and the branch may suffer from excess heat, causing wilting.

Anyone ever tried the paper bag method?

But really though, that sounds like a good method Trichome Creator. as long as it doesn't trigger the whole plant internally somehow .

Yes it does work you just need to remember to put it on and take it off and don't use plastic bags.

Use a lower branch because when the plant gets older that branch may not get much light and not produce anyway.
