What are the disadvantage of breaking up your weed in advanced?

I have a little over and eight of some pretty good bud left. For convenience I'd like to just throw it in the coffee grinder and remove the very few seeds. However, I've been told a million times, that's really bad to do.

But all it does is make it less fresh, right? I mean, I don't give a damn about the taste, so if it doesn't do anything to the potency I'm going to do it anyway. Just checking first.

Man i allways like buy a fresh 1/8th of weed and grind it all up straight away, then transfer it staight back to my weed bag. I is space consuming, so's all th weed fits comfortably in my tin, and Certainly in my experience i haven't noticed that it has ever taken any potency outta the weed at all! LOL i mean basically i grind my weed all the time, and i certainly dont have a problem gettin high! :)

I've noticed that when I grind mine up, a load of trich's will stick to the spikes (its metal and wood, cheap but it does the job). So yeah the potency will be affected, but unless you've got a massive grinder and grind like a 1/4 at a time then you're not even gonna notice it. Plus, if you scrape off all the trich's when they've built up (takes a while... both to build up and to scrape off), eventually you'll have a small amount of kif to add in the next joint to get uber blazed.

Decided to chop it. It's so much prettier now. It's identical to the beautiful substance I use to image in my head during DARE meetings, before I started smoking and was sadddenned by the true appearance.

Dries it out alot quicker. Put it somewheres where it won't breathe too much. Cause if its sticky bud. Then all your sticky goes away. I've had some weed that went dry and wasn't half as good as the fresh stuff. This is just what I've found though. I always wait to bust my bud.

Yea, I don't think it makes that much of a difference, but you can afford to wait untill you're ready to smoke it before you break it up.

Yea, the only time that going through it all would ever matter is if you had some nice dank, like sweet tooth or something, that had a lot of crystals. Thats why i try not to break up my dank, because if I loose the crystals then I wont get as blazed as I'd like to be :stoned: . But If i have some mids or some lower grade dank then I'll grind it up because its easier to pack.

So overall it would depend ont he quality and if your bud has a bunch of crystals.

I break it up as I roll, usually over a sheet of paper to collect the crystals.

seems like it would dry out a lot faster and then that would make it burn faster. doesnt a slower burn make more smoke... or does that even matter?

Why on earth would someone grind up their stash? I dont get it, what do you think your fingers are for? If your smoking dank I DEFINATELY dont see how you could grind it up in a machine, how could you do that to some nice fluffy or sticky Dank like that? I love sitting down and breaking up a few nice buds BY HAND and putting it in my portable stash container, its like a part of the culture.
If you have some crappy mids or some nasty schwag I guess it dont matter much, but your gonna be wasting what little THC is in the stuff...

Actually, if it's real sticky like that, you shouldn't use your hands. It will make it less sticky and therefore, less potent. Use a blade or something...

I would like to point out that I consider myself to be amongst the most chilled out of people that i know! It's just wether internet convo or face 2 face, if someone insults you without any god given reason, and then has no ammo to back their statement up then i think i stand for most people when i say that retaliation or at least some comment in response is by no means "over the top". Anyways back to the topic, i think it's clear to see from reading a lot of posts that we get a lot of different kind of people from all different walks of life, who smoke their ganja in all different kinds of ways. I think it really depends on how you grew up smoking it and how you've allways known best. Preference is because of past habbit i would say, so if you are myself for instance, I'm from an area in the UK called Kent (45 mins drive from London incase anyone was interested) . When i grew up it was predominantly Joints that we smoked and rolles and we used to stick to that. Maybe an occasional bong go, but if we did use a bong, then we would chop a bong mix. Because of this i've allways preferred smoking my joints, hence the reason i allways grind my weed! You get more outta your stash than if i was to stay pick at a bud to sprinke into my joint. MY grinder works like a fuckin treat, and grinds my weed up so fine that it just looks like pure crystals :smokin: Not only that, im my own experiene i have never lost any potenct, (or at least not noticed and loss) of my weed.

Basically, i dont believe in violence verbal or physicall, but if provoked then i can quicky turn from chilled to fuckin monster that wants to shove a knife up your japsi ;) lol to put it bluntly.

the answer is yes... you lose potency when you grind or break your weed up. thc sticks to almost anything so it sticks to what you break ur stuff up with

i dont even break my bud up. i just pull a nug or two off the main bud, pack 'em, and smoke 'em. this way only some of the THC from the outsode is lost. but on the inside... (thinking about the headrush this hit's gonna give me)

but then again... mine's sensi so i dont gotta worry about seeds. i wish i would find one tho

I for one would be really worried about lost trichomes on the blades and sides of the coffee grinder, so I wouldn't bother with it. Also, with a coffee grinder, you're going to be grinding your bud too fine.. it's going to make for a shitty smoke, i.e. burning too fast, excess inhalation, etc.

I'm with opiuser: either I just toss in a nug, or I don't break the nug into more than about three or four pieces. Even if I'm rolling, I break it up by hand, and I break it up just small enough that the size of the pieces doesn't affect the shape and quality of the joint/blunt.

I use a razor sharp knife to cut up my bud, and usually lick the blade when I'm done just in case there are any trichomes on it. I wash the blade regularly, don't worry :).

i break up my weed right before i smoke it, until than i jus leave the nugs alone. also i jus do it by hand because theres no point in having a grinder for the occasional jay. i normally just pack a bowl of small nugs.

I personally never grind my weed, UNLESS it's really fuckin shitty, with mad stems and shit. Then it's just easier to clean it.
Normally I like to take my time, and pinch off little bits here and there when packing. I can't see how grinding good weed up in advance would make it better. Course, I'm one of those slooow stoners. When I get weed I like to stare at it for awhile...I think the crystals are pretty. *shrug*

I doubt you would lose enough THC to notice it in the high.

I wouldn't worry about it drying out and losing the thc. the skunk i'm smoking at the moment was really dry when we first got it and most of the buds had fallen off the stems already. Its all broken apart, so i don't need to grind it up at all. Fucking strong shit though. Normally I just grind up what I need on a joint to joint basis.

depedns on how bad you're breaking it up really... small bits of bud (as in small bits of bud you'd put in your bowl) would be fine, grinding it might not be such a good idea.. it'd be way more inclined to dry out faster, possible degredation of the key ingredients, not to mention if you decide to smoke a bowl, you put joint-grade material in a pipe and you're going to burn it extremly fast.

alot of people like to assume that just becuase it burns faster doesn't mean you dont' get just as high... which isn't true... heat destroys the ingredients to a certain extent, ground up weed is easily burnt, so instead of just wasting a bit every time you put a lighter to it, you're wasting a good ammount.. no matter what you do you're going to end up burning more than you need for that hit... but if it's ground and in a pipe it's going to be burning at quite a bit higher pace then if it were little "nugs of nuggets" (suprisingly that almost makes sense when put in this context) if it were mine i wouldn't do it... but that's just me, as long as it's not a large ammount or an ammount that's goign to last you awhile (i'm goign to say 2-3 days, 4 tops) then it won't really have any negative effects, nothing worth worrying about or noticeable atleast...

Agreed, I haven't broke up my weed the last two months I've been smoking. It's way more potent if left alone and it burns pretty long too. I've had a 15 minute bowl going (granted it was pretty big to start but I'm pretty sure leaving the weed intact lets it last longer).:thumbsup:

you lose a lot of keif that way...BUT you're always prepared to smoke.
