Warning about cough syrup

I've noticed alot of people on here discussing cough syrup consumption, and I thought I'd tell those who don't know...
First of all, there are lots of other ingredients besides DXM or codeine in it. These ingredients can fuck up your kidneys and liver worse than alcohol...trust me, i spent several days in the hospital from liver failure. I had to drink nasty medicine every hour for 2 days to keep my liver from shutting down. I overdosed on acetomeniphen, which is found in Tylenol and many other pain relievers. I used cough syrup alot when I was 14-15, and my skin would turn yellow (jaundice) and I had learning difficulties.
I really don't want to be a killjoy, but I want people to be safe. It's not worth it. I know every other drug is bad or whatever, but this shit is seriously the devil. Just be safe!

like i said, to each his own, and i hate it when someone tells me about the dangers of pot or shit (christians who act in the most un-christ-like manner were put here to remind us how cool WE are), but that was my wake-up call. i'd say once every 2-3 weeks. i don't do it anymore, i have more access to the green now, so i'm content...

Yeah, if you are going to use DXM make sure dextromethorphan is the ONLY active ingredient in your cough syrup and dont do it more than once a month. Twice a year or less is best.

Cough syrup with only DXM in it won't hurt your liver unless taken massively over a period of something like 10 + years. Even then, the damage would be mainly due to the syrup part. Additionally, I have not seen any evidence of this even, it's merely my own speculation.
Liver damage happens when you take the wrong kind of DXM.

I agree that weed is better! Man, but I havent had a hook up for 5 - 6 months. After that period of time, non-voluntarily youll be literally the next in line to pick up some DXM. :p

DXM is not addictive. You've already made it clear that you've never tried it and have no interest in it so why spread false information? That really makes my blood boil. Knowledge over hype over ego.

What you see here is a great advertisement for not using OTC products that contain active ingredients OTHER THAN ONLY DXM to achieve a DXM effect.

This information has been around since the 80s. Stop blaming the drug because fucking C-tards won't do their homework.

Yes, I'm quite sure of that. When I think "addiction" and "withdrawl" I think of shakes and projectile vomit not a couple days of the blues. The point was that it is wrong to go around spreading false information because of the size of your ego especially considering this thread is about how someone almost died. He almost died because of acetaminophen toxicity not his "addiction" to DXM.

most of the injury of dxm use to the body is because of the other things in the cough syrup, NOT the dxm itself...most, but not all...thats why i think the goverment is so stupid about regulating drugs. the american goverment wont sell pure dxm for cough use, because it would be used for a high, so they only manufacture if with all kinds of other, more harmful drugs...its like legalizing pot, but putting rat poison in it

Anyways im an experienced DXMer, and i know DXM can have some really uncomfortabe side effects, if used frequently. I only limit myself to one trip on DXM a month. I used to trip 3-4 times a week, on doses 600mg-810mg. Let me tell you...it fucked up my life. I got caught stealing cough syrup one day, and my dad caught me tripping DXM one day. I still love the DXM trip, but i wont let it overtake me anymore. I mkae sure my parents are gone when i trip, and i only take doses of 300-500 mg now.

As for DXM affecting the liver....It really does...even just the DXM itsself fucks it up. If you say it doesnt your in denial. Anyways from my experience. DXM hurts your liver if you do it alot (like i used to). I even got to the point where, when i digested just food, it would hurt my liver. That's when i quit for 6 months. THen i got into the 1 trip a month thing.

Its a good idea to limit yourself, and make a schedule, of when u want to trip, otherwise you might wake up every morning, feeling shit faced.

Nobody has made claims about how harmful DXM is or is not. I don't believe it itself is harmful on the liver however. Reviewing my information I only see liver trouble only in people missing the key enzyme required to process DXM and people combining it with other active and inactive ingredients. The most information on DXM harm comes from information on Olney's Lesions that, the last time I checked, had never actually been found in a human after prolonged/intense use of DXM. I believe that places harm in the "theoretical" category. Of course each person has to weigh his own risks.

Combining it with other things is really what causes the most harm on the body. The shear amount of sugar in cough syrup is why I steered away from it. I know exactly of the liver pains you speak of and they were all experienced after using a product that just wasn't clean (syrup, gelcaps). You can experience very unpleasant side effects after frequent/intense use, yes. Other than being completely horrible at the time, I have not seen and have not experienced problems from DXM after stopping use.

I had profound good and bad experiences. It was worth it but I did a heck of a lot of reading before I ever put it into my body.

i noticed on the other thread doctorzorders that you said you OD'd on tylenol with dxm in it, if im not mistaking im pretty sure you shouldnt take enough tylenol with dxm to trip. you OD'd because of the tylenol ingredients NOT the dxm.

everything i said in there was from information ive known about tylenol, and read for quite some time about dxm, but im not an expert. anyways please be sure you know of what your talking about what you OD'd on. unless you took over 3000 mg dxm?( i am pretty sure that is the near fatal limit?)

Dude do them only do them once but do them take about 5 or 6 and trust me u will love it. If it waznt so deadly (Just been told that so i havent touched them but one time) then it would be awsome.

1. the cough syrup had been ruining my body over a period of time (yellow skin=jaundice=liver not filtering out toxins properly)
2. I overdosed on tylenol pills, more specifically acetomeniphen, but the tylenol did, if i remember, have dxm in it. i didn't say i overdosed on dxm itself. I was told the lethal dose was 7 pills, i took 12. (don't remember the milligram quantity) the constant vomiting of bile and passing out sure woke me up
3. it isn't just the dxm, but as i said the other inactive ingredients like guasefien or however it's spelled that also do damage. just because it is inactive doesn't mean it doesn't do anything.

P.S. i was like 14-15 when all that shit happened, i thought i was invincible and i was a stupid kid. I just thought i'd let people know how fucked up cough syrup CAN GET. but it is your body your choice, some people get off differently, so more power to them.

Guaifenesin should be listed under the active ingredients, it is an expectorant that may cause a user to vomit at high doses.
Also, frequent use of dextromethorphan (as with many other substances) can most certainly lead to a psychological addiction. Frequent heavy use may also put the user in a state of delerium or "dxm psychosis". A friend of mine began doing DXM (Robo and Coricidin) nearly 5 times a week or more. After he quit his job and dropped out of college he started reporting that the "dxm gods" were inside of him and later that he was being haunted by himself from the past. He eventually had a revelation; that "the past doesn't matter anymore" and at some point started cutting back.

I've known acetaminophen caused liver damage since I was fourteen and first researched recreational dextromethorphan usage. :p

i am pretty sure there is a way to extract the pure DXM from cough syrup so you don't have to drink it all... you need to know a little bit of organic chemistry to do it, but it doesn't sound that hard.
