Lateralus is so very trippy.
I have listened to Tool's Lateralus album while high about 50 times now, the words are the trippiest thing i have ever heard. I could just read the words without the music and freak out.
Listening to it while reading this blew my mind. It all made so much sense.
Life is unreal, death is also unreal, only the reality which you experience is what is true and eternal.
Over thinking and over analysing seperates the body from the mind, withering the intuition and leaving oppurtunities behind.

^^ someone took too much acid and shrooms... i love the first picture on that site by the way.

I love lateralus, it has to be my all time favorite album. No other band out there right now compares to Tool, the lyrics the music is infallibly orchestrated to be harmonious with one another and trip you the hell out, its a mind blowing experience.
You should listen to their other 4 albums if you haven't, its crazy

Dude, maybe the lyrics of Radiohead apply to you more meaningfully, but you can't deny the immense amount of consideration and creativity that went into Tool's instrumental section.
And nobody could possibly impose the messages behind Lateralus on someone else, one has to discover and accept them on their own, like any good music.

In wondering what Lateralus is about and trying to decipher the hidden meanings of the songs on the album, I have discovered that they are basically telling me to stop spending so much time wondering what Lateralus is about and to stop deciphering and to go outside and enjoy the sunshine.
This is the heaviest music I have ever listened to that told me to go have a happy day.

I love Tool, they have the best sound and the deepest message. I like to listen to a tool album on headphones in the dark, it's like meditation, you can almost reach other states of conciousness just by concentrating on the music.
I can't wait for Tool's next album to come out, I heard it will be out in the spring of '06 but judging from how long Lateralus took to come out, it could take a bit longer.

I love listening to reggae high. Jacob Miller is probably the best after smoking, I will definately check out Lateralus though.

Aenima for the music, Lateralus for the lyrics/message.
-
Lateralus is so very trippy.
Aenima for the message too. Kurt Cobain (that's what Eulogy's about), positive messages out of gloom, child memories...I don't know, but I find Aenima more personal for Maynard...and dudes, "Third Eye"
-
Lateralus is so very trippy.
Dude... its a story... a progression... lateralus is as much of a progression from Aenima as Aenima is from Undertow. They're all great, but they're all just a story.

thats well put and disputable, i really don't have a favorite tool album, i find it quite hard to like one more than the other, they're all wonderful creations.. man i can't wait till spring this year when their new album comes out and hopefully they'll also be touring this year. I recommend anyone who has listened to lateralus and was impacted by it to read this very articulate theory on the meaning of the album, heres the link:http://www.toolpantheon.com/lateralus_meanings.htm but i agree with what moeburn said that everyone has to discover their own meaning to the album, and slowly accept them without any bias. I'm afraid we may never really know the true meaning behind their albums, until maybe someday maynard probably surfs through a website claiming a relationship between the bible and lateralus.. which i actually bumped into the other day

Eulogy is about casting down Jesus Christ as an imposter and false prophet.
And yes.. Third Eye.. is amazing.
Tool is probably my favorite band.
Does anyone actually know when the next album is coming out? I've heard that it's going to be released soon.. but goodness.. I'm tired of waiting. If the new album is going to be as good as Lateralus, I can't wait.
-

I was just kidding about Aenima being better!1 I like all the Tool albums...
-
Lateralus is so very trippy.
I actually hate tool with a mighty passion, I think the band consists of assholes, maynard is an egocentric prick who hates his dad and takes it out on the world.
But I like their music, and I like their lyrics, and I like to listen and feel the beat.
-

Could you repeat that in English?

Hey Coke, you into any other death metal than the bands you listed? Vital Remains? Decapitated? Psycroptic? Nile? Dying Fetus, etc.
-
Lateralus is so very trippy.
Nile is awesome. I like alot of things... Watchtower, Opeth, Neurosis, Suffocation, Death ect but I'm not generally into the Death Metal genre, only certain bands.
moeburn, Tool IS a group of assholes and they pride themselfs on it. Proves how big a group of assholes they are. :D

Lateralus is so very trippy.
Get Rush Of Deliverance, Unleash Hell, Infidel, and Entwined by Vengeance, all by VITAL REMAINS. The last one I mentioned doesn't pick up until about a minute and a half into the song. This is as fast / brutal as you can get while maintaining melody, in my opinion. Amazing band. I'm pretty sure the singer of Deicide sang on that album.
-
Lateralus is so very trippy.
Deicide is another good band... well, their first album was good. Entombed and Obituary are also good!1 Wow, yeah, lots of good Death Metal.
I'll go to allmusic.com and check out Vital Remains. Thanks dude, I'm always looking for new music to listen to.
-

My favorite death metal band was called "Injured".
Then they sold all their equipment to a pawn shop.
And they renamed themselves "Acapella".

Make sure ya get those specific songs, though (I grabbed 'em off LimeWire). I nutted when I heard them. I'll send via email if ya want.
If you want a great way to find new music, I recommend going straight to Amazon.com. Search for an album you know you like, and read the customer reviews for an idea of their sound - there's also a section of all the pages that shows what other CD's people who listen to that band bought (found dozens of bands this way, including Vital Remains), and you can sample all the songs on the album most of the time.
Then there's google, of course. I found a lot of my metal through metal forums - I won't listen to black metal, man. It's death, groove, or a little stoner for me.
-
Lateralus is so very trippy.
Have you ever been to www.allmusic.com? I mean, it has everything there... want to find some new metal, pop, jazz or anything, you can go there. I read that Vital Remains has insanely fast drumming and solos, I'll be checking these guys out for sure.
-

Dude, you death metal listeners need to get more excercise...
-
Lateralus is so very trippy.
Cool, I'll add it to my favorites - I'll spend hours finding new music.. I'm a fiend. Music is making my teeth rot and I beat my wife.

Are you saying we sit on the computer all day exchanging information about what's coming up in the underground scene, moeburn?!?
Well, it would be true if I was underground enough... :'(
-

He's probably just trying to make fun of the genres we're speaking of while he listens to the "cool" music. :)

It reminds me of the way I fight with my mom.

On Salival? I have that album, and I agree. I've always loved Pushit, but the live version can be emotionally overwhelming for me. Beautiful song.

Every band should rework their songs like that, for live shows. Wouldn't that be awesome?
-

Yeah, especially Anal Cunt.

Someone apparently has never listened to the lyrics to eulogy, its not about kurt cobain..its about jesus..its cool though, people make mistakes. Aenima, IMO, is a heavier album then lateralus..lateralus is more of a peaceful album, very deep and personal.

The song H. is my favorite of all.
H. was the answer.
