~Well my mate did something when he was last here to see what specs my new computer has, and I just managed to find out what he did (Go to Run.. then type "dxdiag" and it shows you the specs of your computer, wow) and here are mine.. I haven't had any problems with it, the whole thing cost £761 and it's a Dell.
After seeing the post my "Ms420" I'll say mine's a Dell Dimension 5100.

I couldn't copy and/or paste my data, how shitty lol.
Mellow, my old comp was 511Mhz and had 64Mb RAM, it was so shitty towards the end of its life, froze an average of 3 times a night, everything screwed up, sometimes it would only type vowels, and not even the corresponding key, my suggestion, get a new computer soon, like I did :)
-
Ok i wanna get a new comp... what should i buy?
yea but what is the function of ram, mhz and hard drive?
i really know absolutly nothing about cpus

That sounds exactly like my old comp. The bastard wouldnt even shut down. I had to manually turn it off. It was a major piece of shit.

So the geeks are useful now, eh? The nerds ;)
lol.
Anyway, I'm no wizard but I think, Mhz is the speed the cpu (central processing unti) processes information, not sur exactly what the others are, and as I don't want to give false information, someone else will fill you in :p lol

Ok i wanna get a new comp... what should i buy?
cpu - faster the better... 500mhz is slow... i run at 1.9ghz and its plenty fast for now... starting to get into gaming so i might upgrade soon
ram - if your gonna run winxp make sure its at least 512mb
hard drive - depends how much your gonna have on your computer... for most people a 40gb is well enough
thats pretty much the basics
theres video and sound cards too... but idk if i would worry too much about them if you dont know that much about computers
unless your a gamer or really love music - even so youll probably have to make an upgrade later anyway since most preassembled pcs come with cards to make your computer run good but not really performance or anything

Yeah, I had to hold the button in, plus it pushed in about 1/2 an inch, as something must have broken. I couldn't even go on the internet on it, pages took at least a minute to load up, it was ridiculous!

a sound card you would most likely buy after
it improves the quality of sound
i had an onboard sound card for like a year and a half (onboard=built into the motherboard)
then i got a 200$ sound card and wow what a difference
not saying your gonna spend that much
but there are some pretty decent sound cards for like 50$-100$
its kinda like buying an amp for your car
i need to get some new speakers actually and thats another way to upgrade sound
-

I usually build mine from scratch but you should be able to find a 1 or 2 or even 3Ghz processor within your price range. 500Mhz is like 4-6 year old technology so if you're looking at one of those it's an older machine that someone is trying to unload. Personally I have a preference for AMD Athlon processors but that's just me. However they do tend to be a little cheaper than Intel based machines. Also if you are looking for intel, stick with Pentium (pricier I know) as opposed to Celeron based machines. And buy as much memory as you can afford. Don't settle for less than 512Mg. And I agree that Dell makes great machines and has great service.

im an amd kid as well and build mine from scratch
intel says its a 3.0ghz but i think it runs slower than that - i dont think intel rates thier chips excatly
and ill agree dont get less than 512mb ram
ill see if i can find a decent system online or something

You should really try to build it yourself. I have built my own computers for 10 years. Also itâ??s because its part of what I do for a living. Itâ??s really not very hard to do at all. You can order everything you need from www.newegg.com. You will end up with a lot more power for less money. Plus it will be a lot easier to upgrade specific parts down the road.
If you are interested I'm sure I could get you started. Plus there are other message boards where people will help you to.
