he was hiding in the corner behind my aloe vera plant. Tricky rascal...
You know what? You're right. All these years I've been trying to look for a reason to believe in the Bible, and now I have it. I don't need any evidence or logical arguments, I should believe in it because you told me to with the caps lock button down. Why didn't I see it before?Quote:

After all of Bill Hick's work discussing goldfish putting lincoln logs in the sock drawer, that's the best you've got? for shame Oneironaut...
Relax buddy, read the quote, that's probably one of the best one-sentence descriptions of Christianity I've ever read.Quote:

Heres another simple topic where someone is trying to have deep thoughts by mixing words together. I bet he don't really understand what he even said. Besides your only doomed if you have no faith, faith is all the lord needs.
What about my faith in my fellow man to overcome the superstitions of gods and demons and angels and ghosts?
When I say faith I mean the faith in God. Your faith is like the faith I have that every man has good.
If God cares so much whether or not I believe in him, why doesn't he just show himself? Surely he must understand that I'm the kind of guy who likes evidence before believing in something. He can't punish me for that, can he? Because if he does, he's an asshole. I'm sorry, but I just can't make myself believe in something I don't have any evidence for. I don't see why that intolerant God asshole should send me to eternal damnation because of that.
I didn't say he will punishe anyone. God do not show /him/her/itself for who knows what reason. Maybe God wants you to discover him on your own. And as far as hell goes, I don't believe in it. You should know that cuz you read my other posts. Stop taking certin things so literal. The Bible is only a book after all made by man. Find God on your own.
Why? Why should I waste my time seeking something for which there is no evidence? Please explain that to me.Quote:

Well you don't have to if you don't want to, I don't really care weither you do or not, its your life. I just choose to look for a meaning. The point of my living. I do not accept that we live to die. Not looking for something cuz it has no proof is closed minded. Explorers found North America whent hey thought the world was flat. They took a chance of falling off the edge and look what they found. A little enlightenment of the world around them. They could have been like you and choose not to look for riches and hold back on exploring because of death by falling off the edge but they didn't. They had no proof of that land but they found it.
Yeah, but North America is a real thing that they could sail to. God is an abstract concept, that apparently has no influence upon what I can observe with my senses. How then, is it possible to obtain any information about it? Please tell me how you got your information about it, without making shit up or copying shit other people made up.
Die
So I can consider this argument won then?
I sought "the Lord" and this is what I got.

You can consider it whatever you would like. There was no winner in my mind. You never changed my views and I never changed yours.
I said die as a way to find out, not a treath (making sure you knew that). If nothing happenes after you die and thats all, then way to go you were right, but if you are reborn or taken by God then I was right. We will never know while we live.
I hope you are right and there is an afterlife, but I just can't see how that could be, given the fact that it seems the mind is just a product of the brain. We can track blood flow in the brain during cognitive tasks, and examine what cognitive functions are damaged when certain parts of the brain are injured. We notice how people's behavior changes dramatically when certain chemicals interact with the brain. We can correlate different types of brain waves with different modes of consciousness. All this paints a pretty clear picture: consciousness is dependent upon the brain, and we can even pick out what elements of consciousness are dependent upon what areas of the brain. When one part of my brain is damaged, I forget how to speak. When another part is damaged, I can't recognize faces. When a different part is damaged, I can't remember anything before the injury. So what happens when it's all damaged, and the whole brain ceases to function and begins decomposing? The only logical conclusion that I can find is that all these cognitive processes end and the phenomenon known as consciousness does too. It will be just like the billions of years before you were born.Quote:

Before, I saw it that God never existed because I thought God was an invention to help people deal with death. It is easyer to think there is more after life then rottin' in the ground. I changed my beliefs a while back cuz...well I wouldn't be able to tell you why because I still do not know. I fear death, I admit it, but I see God as more then a place to go after this life. I can't fully explain it because I find it hard to put some of my beliefs in words that can be understood.
That's a pretty sure sign that you believe in God for emotional and psychological reasons rather than logical ones. If you had a logical argument, you would present it and get the whole thing over with. But you don't. You just find the idea comforting that there's some fatherly figure looking over you and taking care of you. I understand that. I used to believe in God when I was a kid. But there just isn't any reason to believe it is so.
I told you before I don't use logic with my beliefs. Logic will hold them down. Yes I like the idea of having more but I do not think God watchs me and takes care of me. I have reasons for my beliefs but they are ot logical in a physical sence. You would dismiss them without a little thought on them.
Well of course. How can you believe something which isn't logical? That just flies in the face of logic. I couldn't conceive of doing such a thing. Illogical things just don't fit into my brain. I can't get myself to believe 2 + 2 = 5 no matter how hard I try. How do you do it?
If it's not based on logic, what is it based on then? I think the answer is pretty clear. You're pretending the world is a certain way because you want it to be that way. Nobody ever comes up with faiths which disagree with the way they want the world to look.
Well I guess you can only believe something on either logic or emotion, is there really any other way?. No matter, I much rather be ruled by emotion then logic. I seem many people become dull and drear because they only see logic of something. Look at the Vulkins on star trek for example Lol sorry I don't really mean to use them as an example, moms watching it on T.v and spock started to talk Lol.
hehe i always try to keep my belief in the spiritual aspect of life logical, dispite it's constantly locking such, according to weirdo :D
Well I feel you can't make faith logical all the time. Some things can't be explained. I'm ok with that. I would like to understand it but I can't grasp it yet.
yes they can, the thing is you have to have a higher understanding before you can adequately explain, but even then, not all things can be adequately explained with only words, some things you must see to understand.
meditate by focusing ONLY on the thought of light. it might be trippy, it was for me.
That's why you have to have the courage to say "I don't know", instead of pretending you have the answers. We currently don't have the ability to use logic to explain everything, but what it can't explain is simply beyond the bounds of the knowable. How can you know something without using logic to figure it out? By making shit up and convincing yourself it's true, or as you call it, "faith".Quote:

But how can you take any idea seriously which isn't based on logic? Where do such ideas come from? Only ideas which can be tested can be deemed to be true. I can't even comprehend trying to understand things beyond the bounds of logic. How do you get there? What is there to say about it, and how can you possibly know you're right? Do you just have to guess and hope your guesses are right?
Oneironaut, your having to much trouble with this. You shouldn't try to understand then. You need logic in your life, thats fine, but not everyone do need logic. Anyways, everything starts as an idea but then becomes tested to see if it is true, or logical. 1+1=2 started as an idea but when they checked to make sure that is the only outcome then it becomes logic. Thats why you do not see my 11 answer a possible outcome, you are ment to see logic only. You never know your right until the end. You do not know for sure if your right because you can not disprove our ideas, as we can not prove them.
That is the most non-sensical post I've read... 1+1=2 didn't start out as an idea. One guy had one apple, another guy had one apple, together they had 2 apples... That's how it got started... Don't try to make things "mysterious" and "unexplainable" just because it suits your purpose.Quote:

You really are offened by religion arn't you? Yes it did start as an idea. Everything does. It becomes fact when it is tested. One has an apple another person brings another apple, the guy thought hey is this 2 apples? then he counted and yes it was. It was tested so it is logical. Nothing mysterious about it. I never said it was cosmic or anything. Your the one who changes things to fit your purpose.
What the fuck are we arguing about anyway? :rasta:Quote:

Okay, we are not arguing, I bet everyone is laughing while they're typing and then it comes out all wrong. I'll believe what I feel, that there is more to Life. The last day they were gonna keep me on Life Support, it was All Saints' Day and I came out of my coma. Just don't judge me and we'll be fine. Let's just say, I've been through a lot, including giving up a Baseball scholarship to transfer to a college to pursue music, and then re-directing my life to a new state, a few months later, I went through all of that, and then made it to the New Year's Eve party.
:D lol yup, laughing, posting, and laughing... and it all LOOKS like an arguement, but we're all laughing at ourselves and each other! :D
Amen, brother! :thumbsup:Quote:

So, you should rephrase that to, well, it wouldn't apply here. But I'm glad to see that you have some faith, flesh, Amen was a supreme God. Funny I knew a girl named faith and I'm calling you flesh when I could reverse it and have it make perfect sense.
reversed, you knew a girl named F L E S H and you're talking to faith... haha
what MORON would name their kid F L... er... sorry F L E S H :D
Flesh, you gotta tell me the truth...that's MacGuyver, right???
