Need some advice for a friend of mine...

Hi guys, I have a friend who is turning 21 in a week, he's been a daily smoker for about 5 years now - smoking at least an eighth a day. Now I know cannabis isn't really an addictive drug, but this guy is definitly hooked, he really wants to stop though and broke down crying on my shoulder today. I really want to help him stop smoking it and just need some advice really. I've told him it could be worse, he could be an alcoholic, or addicted to other shit but he doesn't want to live his life having to rely on weed or any other substances and I can understand this completly.

I'm going to be joining the gym with him next week to give us something else to do rather then smoke weed, and I guess one of the main ways to quit is to find other stuff to do, but you must remember that after 5 years of full time smoking this can be difficult for a person.

So do any of you guys have any advice for how this guy can kick the habbit, I'm really worried about him and will do anything I can to help him out. Cheers.

Hey, wow I wish I had the resources to smoke that much...Going to the gym is a great idea, getting healthy all around is a really good way to detox. If you focus on health instead of just getting off pot for a while, its easier to stick to, and if/when you start smoking again its usually your choice, instead of other times I quit (just to clear my head-god how many times have heads said that) Id go out with friends or my boyfriend and it seemed like someone was always smoking a blunt or a J, and I couldnt get away from it at home either, cause my mom would give me some (sometimes a casual dub, not even a cut of a score just like when someone gives you a bowl she'd give me a fuckin dub), and then my sis is a head. Addiction is everywhere, but if you make it about more than just the weed, and about "cleaning house" mentally and physically, it seems to be a little easier. But pot probably is the "best" thing to be addicted to. Alcohol kills brains cells and can kill you in so many ways, and other drugs are so fucking addictive, its amazing how our sense of self control is smacked the the ground with drugs, we think we're in control but its usually only for a short while. I did coke once and thats my favorite drug, when I first felt it kick in I told my boyfriend "I'm afraid of what I'm about to say" (what) "I'm in fucking heaven"

If he smokes an eighth a day minimum then I doubt money's too much of an issue for him. I suggest he buys himself a ticket to somewhere and stay there for a month or two. Away from the herb, it'll do him really good. Not only will he not be dying to smoke, but the chemicals will get cleaned out of his system. Then when he gets back, though he may be tempted to smoke, he won't find it too hard to resist. If he can't then maybe he can at least cut back. Geez, a 3.5 a day is a lot.

I kinda doubt the herb is his main problem, sounds like he may have been a bit unstable to begin with. Did you ask him if anything else was bothering him? If he is sick of the herb, then he shouldn't have much trouble quitting it. If he's not sick of it, but feels that it's interfering with his life, then maybe he could try cutting down a bit. (like maybe saving it for the weekends)

Unfortunitly he can't get away because he's in college and is very committed to it. Otherwise it would be the perfect idea for him. Next year though, we are planning on going to Africa for a few months to do aid work for a few months.

Hi Edgar, yea he has had problems in the past, I know his dad was abusive and he didn't really have a good time at school. I actually don't think it's the weed he's addicted to, it's just that he cant handle bieng sober.

Breaking down and crying on your shoulder?

Cannabis is addictive to a degree. I akin it to caffeine addiction. Mild. But it can be heavily relied on when there are other emotional issues making it appear to be a much more addictive substance than it is. So are there any other issues at hand not mentioned by the person?

What you are seeing is really the unconscious mind and it finding a way to keep the seratonin reward through the conscious mind and that is the (not wanting to let it go feeling), (cant live without it feeling), In a sense the mind is tricking itself. So be aware of that.

Best way to treat any kind of addiction whether that be caffeine, nicotine, meth, alcoholism, herion, pot etc. is to replace that with 12 grams of ascorbic acid powder, (vitamin c) disolved in a full glass of water or mixed with cran-grape juice, divided into 4 doses equally spaced thoughout the day, 3 grams x 4 doses =12grams/day, ( 24hrs). This is roughly 3/4 of a teaspoon, (3grams). Or to convert milligrams to grams just move the decimal point to the left three places. Example 1200milligrams= 1.2 grams.

Ascorbic acid serum levels are important to maintain as the body doesnt store it nor does it manufacture it like other mammals do in the liver in response to stress or illness. Do not take it in pill form it will be to hard on the stomach. Use powder form that readily disolves in fluid.

Humans, Primates, Guinea pigs and the fruit eating bat are the only mammals that cannot manufacture their own ascobic acid from the liver due to an evolved loss of one of three enzymes in the liver. It is essential for the immune system and the stress response by its regulation through the adrenal cortex.

Stress and smoking, (anything), depletes ascorbic acid levels to marginal or below depleted levels along with the modern high glycemic and processed diet and this causes a wide variety of disease and illness of the body and mind which we are all familiar with yet these diseases have been sub-catagorized into seperate diseases when most all fall into the same realm of pre-scruvy or lack of adequate ascorbic acid.

Ascorbic acid is responsible for 30 critical functions in the body. Ascorbic acid is water soluble and is excreted in the urine within hours. This is why serum levels must be maintained every 4 hours.

Do this everyday. The daily dose and spaced dosages can safely be increased, better yet is to push the threshold to the point of diarea, which may be up to 200 grams in 24hrs., 20-25 doses, then drop back down from just that point which diarea doesnt occur and maintain that dose for several days. After that between 6-12 grams a day for life, equally spaced. Added health benefits are too numerous to list from this method.

Dont consume ascorbic acid at the same time as eating food with sodium in it such as baking soda, or soda drinks as this will quickly neutralize the acid before it has time to work. Fortunately it is quickly absorbed in the intestines.

Ascorbic acid is the only substance which can convert two other naturally existant molecules in the brain to seratonin.

This will stimulate natural seratonin production in the brain and give the replacement feeling of well being and this will in turn reduce the need for the substance. Give this 2 to 4 weeks and the cravings will gradually diminish. You should see early results in 72 hrs. Sleep will also be improved.

Stay occupied. Weight lifting is excellent as it will remove thc residue by 2000% through fat metabolism, nothing else works as well for elimination. The oxidation from the fat metabolism will be neutralized by the ascorbic acid in turn as it carries a spare electon which also neutralizes free radicals generated from smoking and excersize. In other words, in larger amounts it acts as a reducing agent but has many different roles as well.

The body and mind will be fatigued if these massive amounts of free radicals cannot be neutralized. So there are several other benefits of this method also.

As for the question of how to help... that's a tough one. I only say that because a lot of us on here are huge potheads too, myself included. I think will power is a main issue here.... the best thing i can suggest is going to the gym and doing other activities to take his mind off of it. While Marijuana isn't a physically addicting drug, it can be mentally addicting. The need to feel the pleasure of being high can make you quite addicted to it. If he's in college that does not leave the option of going elsewhere for a month or two, so all I can say is that the best chance of him quitting is doing other activities to make him think about other things. Whatever happens, I hope it all works out for you man :). Now I'm going to feed my mental addiction and smoke a bowl... I wish your friend the best of luck :).

No way I could do that either as we know about 20 different dealers, he even knows dealers in neighboring towns lol. (at least we can always get hold of anything we want, which is an advantage sometimes, but obviously not when your trying to kick the habbit)
