HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!

Using this system Caddy Turn Key System http://www.sunlightsheds.com/cool_cab.htm Using a 17gal tank to hold the water. Using Rapid Rooter Natural Plant Starter for growcubes. Also using Hydroton Clay Pebbles. For nutrients using EcoGrow "L" 5-0-3 (npk) (part A) & EcoGrow "L" 3-4-5 (npk) (part B). Also have Supernatural Excellofizz http://www.ecogrow.com/index.cfm/pro...id/0/home.html Also using Hydrofarm CO2 digital Tester. Genesis Solutions Standard Solution Total Dissolved Solids 800 PPM electrical conductivity 1.14 mS. Any tips can u offer me with these products? My problem is the Genesis Solutions Standard Solution Total Dissolved Solids 800 PPM electrical, now do I use this for the CO2 Tester? Ifso how do I use this solution to read the CO2 ? This solution didn't come with any directions so I do not know how much to use to read the levels.. If anybody can help me step by step I would deeply appreciate the help..

CO2 tester... for the air? I guess... Um... can't you just turn it ON and get a reading? Why do you need a solution to read your CO2 levels?

Sorry I got a lil mixed up, the 800 PPM solution I guess is used with the EC-pen (TDS) digital tester. Ifso so I have no idea when & how to use this tester.. (It came wit no instructions for tha solution use) I don't kno when & how to test the water.

Nice cabinet purchase. I hope you have fun with that. It looks like it could be pretty awesome once you get to know it. Don't be disapointed if your first couple of grows are disapointing. We all must crawl before we learn to walk, and walk before we learn to run. Take notes, make observations, ask questions here in the Hydroponics board. I will help you the best I can. My setup is not unsimilar. You're in the right place for gaining knowledge. Everyone has a little bit different of a technique, but thankfully cannabis is a very forgiving plant and responds well to many combinations of care.
Good luck to you. Some times I wish I was starting over again, it was fasinating to me to learn and watch from my methods. I envy you. Nowadays, if us experienced growers want to change it up, shake it up etc, we try different seeds, or change hydro systems like aeroponics or NFT. Again.....good luck to you

I'm almost 100% sure that your 800ppm solution is for calibration... The situation is the following:

You have your meter. Well, those meters get off-scale. So you need to "calibrate" them. You do that with a solution that has a specific value (800ppm in your case). You must try and get your meter in 'calibration' mode or something similar... then, you place the probe in your solution.

Many things can vary in this. My meter (Hanna) can be calibrated with one point, or two points. Two points is more precise. For a two point calibration, you would have, for example, (a) 800ppm solution and (b) 400ppm solution. (The 400 is made up, it's probably another value). The meter uses these two known, specific concentrations (ppm) for calibration.

Think of it this way, your meter doesn't know what it's reading... It's unsure if 500ppm is really 500 or it's 700ppm because it's off by 200. So, you tell your meter; "Look meter, I'm going to give you an EXACT 800ppm solution..." And the meter then calibrates its self to that 800ppm... now, all other measurements should be accurate.

In addition, meters can have 'automatic identification' of the solution, or manual. My meter for example, I can use the calibration solutions, and it will automatically know which solution I'm using. Some meters, you need to specify to it which solution you're using.

I hope this helps... and I hope I'm not blatantly wrong.

I still don't kno when to use the tester. Do I test the water before & after I add nutrients to the water?. As far as the 800 PPM solution, if I need to use it how much do I add? Teaspoon? Tablespoon? A cup? Can I use this tester to read the PH levels? Is there anyway somebody can guide me step by step with using my system? I'm like so lost at the moment... I got all this stuff & don't have a clue what to do... There has to be somewhere & someone that can break it down step by step for me...

Step by step... we're trying... we'll get there :)

Your 800ppm solution, you use to calibrate your meter... I'm on my 1st grow, but I would calibrate the meter @ the start of everything, and every 1 month. Let's wait for Zandor's input on this.... more experience.

When do you use your meter...

Ok, after/while mixing your stuff. Let's say you want to fill your rez (reservoir).

1. Water into the rez
2. Use your meter to check your water's ppm (if it's tap water, it will have some 'stuff' in it... 200, 320 ppm... depends where you live)
3. Add your nutrients one by one, according to their instructions... At any and all times, you can now use your meter to actually "see" the exact ppm amounts you're adding of your nutes...

4. When you finish mixing everything, you can check (with the meter) your solution's ppm... There... General Hydroponics (GH) has a chart that I plan to use, as per Zandor's advice. It has the ppm levels plants should have for every week of their lives.

After you're running your solution through your plants, you can check (with your meter) the ppm to know what your plants have consumed. So, if you mixed everything and had 800ppm, and after 4 days your plants have consumed (example) 2 gallons of water and... your reading is now @ 550 ppm... soooo.... your plants have taken up the difference in ppm.

Willie, I'm on my 1st grow, and, my meter, I've actually never plugged it in yet. I hope this helps. Please read all replies, as I may be wrong in some of the things I said (C'mon guys! I can't be wrong in everything!!!).

Using the tester to read the pH... damn... we need the exact name of the instrument. Post it here and I'll do a google and let you know how it works.

Now, when you're going to use the 800ppm calibration solution, here's what I suggest:

Get a vial. Glass vial with tight cap would be best. Put your 800ppm solution in there. How much? Enough to cover the entire probe. Always use tap water to rinse your probe... for what ever reason. If you take it from here, wash it. If you're going to use it, wash it. If you're going to take it out of your rez to test your new nutrient mix, wash it. This prevents cross contamination.

The 'wash it' is very important when you're going to use the 800ppm to calibrate... you don't want to mess up that 800ppm value. If the probe has residue from your nutes, and you insert it in the 800ppm solution, you're going to get the calibration solution contaminated... then it's no longer 800ppm. Don't be scared dude! Just wash the thing well with tap water.

How much of this 800ppm solution do you have? If it's little, then pour it all into the glass vial. But if you've got plenty (16oz or something), then pour some of it in the vial... enough to cover the probe. If for whatever reason you think your 800ppm solution is contaminated, toss it out and pour some new one into the vial.

BTW: I think I'm focusing too much on the freaking 800ppm solution... like I said, calibration (I think) isn't a daily thing. It's more like once everyu 30 days or something... or if you think you're getting wrong measurements.

Ok, so when I test my rez, I should use a cup to scoop some water out of my rez so I can test it correct? If I do need to use the 800 PPM solution,how much should I add to tha cup? I don't kno the correct amount of solution I need use for a acurate reading... (Thanx man u helpin me out bigtime!!!!!!!)..

Ok, I'm germinating 5 seeds now letting them soak (tap water) in a cup for no longer than 24hrs before I place them in between damp paper towels. Now like I mentioned I'm using the Caddy Turn Key System http://www.sunlightsheds.com/cool_cab.htm they come with 5 oz baskets that hold the growcubes. So my next question is should I use "rapid rooter" http://www.ecogrow.com/index.cfm?pro...pecial=monthly or some 50/40 cubes from http://www.ecogrow.com/ Those are my 2 options which should I use? Again I don't kno how & when to use the Excellofizz. I did some research & I figured out the how to test the water with the tester & 800 PPM solution. I kno how to use the PH testing kit.

I gotta question about that 800 PPM solution, ok lets say I just filled up my rez & I haven't added any nutes to tha rez yet. (How bout the PH level should I make sure the levels are set before I check the water?) Now I take a glass & scoop a cup of water out of my rez. Now I got the glass with just tap water in it. So I stick the tester in the glass. Now say I need to use the 800 PPM solution. Do I mix the solution into the glass of tap water from my rez? I only have a 8oz bottle of solution. ?? If your talking about he 800 PPM solution it is for calibrating the meter. It is the wrong solution for calibrating your meter. But if you put your meter in full 800 PPM and your meter reads 800 it's good to go. They come pre calibrated. Test your rez water. if you have seedlings you do not feed for 2 to 3 weeks. You only keep the rez water PH balanced. The co2 pucks are for flowering and only when the lights are on. What kind of nutrients do you have ? Ok I looked and you have GH 3 part nutes. follow the bottle directions or look in the faq's section there is a chart for feeding.. If you are using tap water. check it with your meter if it's over 200 PPM's you need other water. That is hard water and maybe chlorine. Chlorine has one function and that is to kill all organic matter, that's you me and your plants . Some let it sit out in a bowl overnight to get rid of as much chlorine as possible. Sorry man but you got an ass load of home work. It's not rocket science. I'm on my second hydro grow and didn't ask but 1 or 2 questions . I did my home work and found answers from others problems to help me. You got an awsome cab, wish I had it ,it will almost run itself when you get the hang of it.

Yes that's right. I'm not shure what 50/40's are. Are they the rockwool cubes for starting seeds I saw with the system. If the rapid rooter is the cloning hydro setup then yes.. the rapid rooter plugs are for starting from seed you need some thing that will not wash down into hydro system when put into place . That's why we use rockwool and you have to be careful because rockwool can cause stem rot if it stays too wet later.

Yea they rockwell cubes, so u sayin the rapid rooter will end up breakindown & makin my rez a mess? I guess I'll go wit tha cubes.. Now before I place my seeds in the cubes should I treat the cubes before using? I was told to put tha cubes in a bowl with water, then check the PH level of the cubes because the cubes have a high level of lime in them & they can mess up my PH balance in my rez. I was told that the cubes are high in PH like 8.. So they said for me ph down the cubes to about 5.5 or 6 on tha pH levels... Does this sound correct?

Soak the cubes in PH 5.2 to 6.2 water for 24 hours. Then pop a seeed in the little hole or make a hole. Keep them warm and moist but not dripping wet. Or you can germinate with a wet paper towel in a baggie in a warm place. When they spout put them in the cubes root down. When roots start coming out of cubes they go in the main grow chamber for veg. You place the cube in the middle of the net pots and surround them with clay pepples to support them. Soak clay pepples for 24 hhours in PH water and to get dust off them.

Ok, so when I put the seed in the cubes, so while the seed roots thru the cube should it be expose to any light? Our do I wait for the root to be expose to put it in light? When the seedling pops up you need light. flouro's best for seedling . Roots do not like light it hurts them. Take the cloner out of the top and put the cubes in a plastic tray. keep them moist with a touch of water in the bottom, just a touch. As soon as you see the root coming out of the cube it needs to go in the main 14 plant hydro setup in the bottom with clay pepples. You have a MH light bulb for vegging. You don't want to burn them but you don't want the light too far away, they will strech and you don't want that. When 2 to 3 weeks old you can feed with 1/4 strong nute mix and build up. Keep an eye on PH. When the plant get to about 12 inches you change bulbs to HPS and go to 12/12 light. 12 on 12 off. Always keep the light as close as you can without burning them. Hold your hand at the top of your plants for a minute if it burns or is real hot move light up. The co2 pucks are for flowering and only when the lights are on. I have heard very little about those. If they were really good everyone would be using them. Remember to keep your bulbs clean. Do not get finger prints on bulbs . Use a cloth or paper towels to handle them. They can get really hot wait for them to cool good when changing. You are taking your fisrt steps into a larger world. There is no knowledge that is not power. Rock on and we all want to see pictures of your grow, it helps when you have problems. Have you looked at my grows yet ? First and second ,very primitive. Not much in the way of funds. But I did good with what I had, and the great help here. No green thumb here, if I can do it anyone can.

since you are committed to buying and building a good system, you should buy an r-o unit to distill your own water

tap water is around 200ppm's...mine from my deepwell is 163-187 depending on season
after running through rodi unit, I have 003 ppm's...so you see, you draw water,test it,
now you know what your natural ppm is...then add nutes and test it, this is your ppm's with nutes added...then check your ph. Alot of nutes have built in ph buffers and sometimes i get a perfect 5.8 ph reading after adding base nutes...hope this helps,
there is alot of good help here, sorry if I reiterated anyone else's advice, but I came to a point reading this thread that I said...this is what my man needs to know. You can use your tds pen anytime you want. It is for telling you the strength of your nute solution, plain and simple....good to see all the healthy responses here...lw

Will anything happen if I soaked my clay pebbles for like 3-4 days?, reason I'm askin is my seeds should be germinated sometime 2nite. I have soaked my cubes in ph balanced water for nearly 17 of the 24hrs, but I also have my clay pebbles soakin at the sametime, now that I'm readin that I have to add the clay pebbles when the roots comes out the cube, will it matter if I leave the clay pebbles soakin while I wait for the root to come out the cube which could be a couple of days?

No it will not hurt they do not hold water. Won't hurt the cubes either, just sqeeze the extra water out of them. When you see roots coming out fill the net pot about 1/3rd the way up with pepples and put in the cube . Add or take away pepples to get plant with top of net pot and fill in around the cube to the top with pepples. Many peeps wash clay pepples off and reuse.

Ok I'm tryin to prepare for my rez,, so this is what I did. I took a cup of tap water, I turned on my dist 1 conductivity tds meters with automatic temperature compensation HI98300/1/2/3/4 I got a readin of 100.Then I take a cup of my 800 PPM solution put the dist in the solution, it read 70, then I I turned the screw on the side of them meter until it went no higher, I got a readin of 1248. So now I'm confused, so I started over after I put it in the solution. I put the tester back in tha cup of tapwater & got a reading of 170-173 . Then I put the tester back in tha solution & it stayed around the 1248 reading. I turned the screw but nothin happen. Then I read the instructions that the HI98300 is supposed to read 1500 ppm. But it won't go higher tha 1248 in tha solution? Did I do it correctly? Does this sound right?

put the meter in the soltion an turn the screw counter clock wise untill the meter reads 800 PPM. If it will not come down to that something is wrong with the meter. Is this the meter that came with the setup ? And is this the solution they gave you ? The instructions called for a different solution.

To be honest, the tester & solution where bought from tha same website, but not from where the system was purchased. So your tellin me that 800 PPM solution is NOT for that meter I'm using? A friend was tryna help me out from destroyin anymore seeds so they figured they purchase some new supplies so he bought the tester & the solution, its crazy because niether 1 of us kno crap about growin anything, I guess he figured that I should have something to test the water, so he bought them supplies... So am I juss better off using spring water or tap water for my rez? Its easier for me to use tap but if its safer to use natural spring water I do that..

Ok I tried it again, I turned on my tester set it in a cup of that solution, I set it for 800, then I took it out the solution, put it in a cup of tap water, I got a readin' of 117... But your telling me that solution is not the right 1, so should I even be focused on what the tester reads since that 800 ppm Genesis Solution Standard Solutions Total Dissolved Solids is not the recomended solution for tha dist 3 conductivity tds meters with automatic temperature compensation HI98300/1/2/3/4 ... I about 2-3 days away from filling up my rez so I need to find out if I can use my tap water or do I have to use spring water....

It's not what is recomended to calibrate ,BUT if your meter can adjust and read the 800 PPm solution then it is telling you right. If your tap water is from a well that is not to bad. 200 is considered hard water. My little bro's well water is 160 and he runs it through a britta filter and gets it down to 90. It's working for him. I got a water distiller from sears for 100 bucks ,it's a pain to make water all the time but the water test about 8 to 10 PPM's and low PH. RO filters to hook up to your house water will do about the same, just replace filters 1 or 2 times a year. Look around there are good deals on them . The one I want is about 200 bucks but you can find them cheaper on ebay. If you buy water go distilled water , spring water is not regulated. Your almost there. The meter is good if it reads what the solution is. How's your PH ? My bro had just started and his PH was 7.6, I brought it down to 5.8 and his plants took off.

Oh yea, you might as well get some calmag plus. The plants need it . Maybe some B-52 for b-1 vitamins and some h2o2. You can get that at drug store or super market, hydroge peroxide. I think you got GH 3 part nutes. The only other things I got are bud blood and big bud additives.

So, basically my tap is cool, I tested my tap its close to 6 Ph. So that calmag, b52 for b1 & h2o2 is needed before or after I put my cubes in my system. I'm still waitin for my seeds to pop out the cubes, I did 5, I can see the seed of 3 of them peekin out the top of the cube. They been in tha cubes for 2 whole days. So I kno within a few days they'll be ready for my rez.. Are those (calmag, b52 b1, h202 ) any different from that stuff I already have Supernatural Excellofizz http://www.ecogrow.com/index.cfm/pro...id/0/home.html ?

I'm kind of new to hydro but I must have read everything I can. We all help as much as we can. I just got a little time right now, so I try to take some pressure off. There will be times I'm not to active but I'm always around. I got a little daisey cloner and it seems real warm to me. It only does 8 clones and holds a little over a gallon of water . It has a pump twice as big as my 8 gallon 6 plant drip system. Anyone know what the temp should be ? If it's what the hydro should be I got to get it down.

So can I use hydrogen peroxide? I was told the sell it at our local CVS charmarcy.. For a 17gal rez how much would I need, & how do I use & when do I use it... I guess u guys suggested using calmag + or B-1 B-52 or hydrogen peroxide.
