Uh Oh-Check the Email I Got Today

This email was sent from the IT director of the company I work for
This means I wont be on this site that much anymore :(

Good morning.

Recently I have taken a keen interest in our Internet usage and found a few interesting facts. The greater part of our internet usage does not appear to be related to our business, unless I am unaware that we are selling holidays, renting property, shopping online, buying cars or chatting on-line (no-forum). Our top 10 usage sites are:

1. Hotmail/MSN
2. AOL mail
3. Wannadoo mail
4. BBC
5. Lettingsweb.com
6. Rightmove.co.uk
7. Ebay â?? non company (I donâ??t want to go into the products that are being bought)
8. Autotrader
9. Weightwatchers
10. Gambling site

And at number 16 â?? TomTom â?? our first company related site.

I have quite a few URLâ??s that ought to be in the top 10 that I cannot list as this relates to adult material/content which is quite disturbing.

At the moment I am not going to single out any person, but next time the network are running slow, you might want to look around at your colleagues.

If this continues on this trend, we will have to implement measures to limit internet usage to restricted sites only.

Yeah Im on my laptop right now, but I used to spend the majority of my time on it at work!
Im not being paranoid but I know I am one of the people he was referring to when he said adult/disturbing sites!! I felt my face go red and my stomach churning when I read the email, then about 15 minutes later the buzzer went and I answered it and it was the police!!!
I thought they were here to see me, I got so paranoid and went and sat in the toilet for 20 minutes

I really hope I dont lose my job over this or anything, I mean, this website deosnt even have a discreet name - CANNABIS.COM

Well I hope everything goes well for you and you don't lose your job... but if you do... you could always make a trip to the US and visit all you're fellow cannabis.com members! (well... the ones that live in the US)... regardless... I know how you feel... the owner where I was previously employed found shit on his computer that I had done and threatened to fire me for it (he didn't, this was a good 5 months ago) and then earlier this week I get a call 4 hours before I worked saying he permanently closed down the store and we were all unemployed unless we wanted to work 1 day a week at another store further way..... regardless... if you're on your own laptop i don't think there's much he can do..... it's not his property... only thing I could thing of is you using his internet for it... but I can't see how you could get fired for it when it's your own property :p .

what does it matter you could have friends there that you speak to etc it doesnt mean they can jump to conclusions and judge you etc i know to some you mention cannabis and they instantly think druggie etc i have had this in the past myself but as long as they cant fault your work etc then they can take a jump and dont worry uk employment law you have to have three warnings before you can be sacked verbal written and final

i used to work for my local council, i got arrested one weekend for possession, a couple of weeks later it was in the local paper, in the 'in court section', anyway my bosses read it (or some fucker showed them) so they put me through a disciplinary for 'bringing the council into disrepute' what a load of bollox eh! i went through so many hearings, got union officials, councillers all that shit involved, they thought they could sack me, my union said they couldnt, anyway after about 4 months they found me guilty, and gave me a WRITTEN WARNING!!! by that time id found some better work so i left without tellin the bastards, they were still payin me and ev!!

I agree with whoever said that it's dudes at your work looking at porn.

I mean if you are the only one at your work looking at this site it probably didn't register very "high" (snicker) with your IT dept.

I heard somewhere that some there is some insane percentage of porn sites accessed from corporate office networks.

There is probably some exec who is sitting with his office door closed looking at chunkyasses.com or vampirelesbiancheeleaders.com

This is called your IT director justifying his position. I find it kind of scary that he knows what "products" people have been buying on eBay though. There's a difference between being an IT director and an IT nazi.

Yeah I wish! I've been on here quite a lot recently. The director is quite new and probably just trying to show everyone whos the daddy kinda thing. Anyway, its still cool I can come on when I come home :)

when i worked for HP, there were TONS of people that looked at inappropriate websites at work. So while you may be worried about visiting this site, I agree with many of the others that have said that they mostly wanna crack down on the porn. All those videos using the bandwidth, not you. :D Just remember everybody, your boss knows EVERYTHING you do at work, haha.

As a telecommuter who is fairly strict about working hours, I've been amazed at how much time people in an office 9-5 waste surfing the web and instant messaging. It's made me feel as if I should add a day or so to my timecard at the end of the week. I have a lot of catch-up slacking to do!
