I"m new to the growing field. I had a friend who said they had did hydro for years and was trying to help me with mine. But every time something went wrong they said they didnt know what to do. So here I am. I have a cabinet its 4 by 4 by 6. I have the complete set up from super closet but mine is a double cabinet. This has cost me a fortune. Only if I would have come to this site first. You live and learn. My light is a 420 hps. My first grow I had 20 plants and got 6oz. in the whole crop. What a joke. I used GH 3 part, the temp stayed around 80, I kept my PH at 5.8 My PPMs I went by the GH chart.What in the world am I doing wrong? Oh by the way, I was growing Williams Wonder ( another fortune ). Boy did they see me coming. Please help if there is anything else you need to know, this girl would surely try to tell you.

I think it might be greed.. no just kidding lol, how many females did you turn out with? 6 0z's sounds mighty fine to me :D

LOL It wasnt greed, but I did get lucky and all 20 were females.

Wow 20/20 females.. no it wasn't greed that's for sure hah.. I think its your lighting. Your growspace is 4 by 6 so thats 24 square feet... you need to have atleast 8,000 lumens per square foot, your 420 hps is only putting out around 50,000 so your only really covering 6 ft. or 1/4 of your space.. if you want more bud your going to have to think of getting a couple of thousand watters on light movers.. either that or, grow less plants. If you take your time and give 1 plant a nice long veg under your hps then flower you can manage up to a pound if you do it right...

How close did you keep your light to the top of your canopy?

Did the plants receive fresh air?

first off it is amazing that you got so many females. but you have two problems.1. to many plants for the aveailable space. they nead room to get big. and 2. not enouyght light for the space. i would build some soret of wall, make everything relay reflective so you get the most out of your light and then put less plants in there. that way the get get huge and you couget more buds.

Mctuffet, don't you think that hydro can have 20 plants.. flower them at 6-10 inches and get 16-24 ounces..

I don't think it shold be a problem..

Now a 1000 would be ideal.. or even 2 1000's but- hydro should be able to get the hang of the system with a 420 in a 4x4x6 area.

Not that it was ideal, but there was this "grow room" that had 300 plants in a 4x6x6 room, with 4 - 600's and it yielded 5lbs.

to be honest i'm not positive. i odn't have much experience with hydro. but with that limited light the space is just to big.

i was trying to offer a cheap solution to get more out of what you have. i guess if you got more light and used a hydro system and flowered (in my opinion) relativly small plants you could get a large yield from your 20 plants.

But if you use the same light i think it would be better to reduce the space that you are growing in with less plants fighting for the same light.

I know one thing for sure, and its that you shouldnt have had your growroom at 80 degrees, the more ideal temperature would be mid-70's to lower-70's.

This creates shorter internode length between the buds, which leads to fatter denser buds.

maybe I explained it wrong. If you go to supercloset.com you can see the cabinet I got, but mine is the new double cabinet. I dont know if they are advertising it yet, but is is two cabinets back to back. When I talked to them they said that the light would be plenty. could I have been lied to. and Garden Knowm to answer your question I kept my light about 18 in. from my plants. If my light is not enough is there another light I can add to the light I already have? Also my light is in the middle of these two cabinets. You mentioned fresh air, yes my ventilation is a hydrofarm active air blower w/ a carbon filter. I also have 2 fans blowing on the inside. I hope this helps answer your question.

Hey guys back to the 20 plants, they wasn't from seeds they were from my 2 mom plants, I cloned so many because I was afraid I would lose some of them since this was my first grow. So I really dont want to grow that many 6 or 8 would be fine if I can get a better yield. Thanks

Kurt, PH for plants should be 5.5-7.0.. and 6.5 is SUPER SAFE..

300 plants-- well they were flowered around 6-10 inches.... about 50 plants were crushed,, JUST pushed down by their neighbors...

They doubled in size to about 12-20 inches...
it was an experiment... I might add.. the BUDS were HUGE... for such little plants..

A total mess to clean up...



Hydro, If you can add light and keep the temp below 80 degrees, then add light...: )

Can you get the light down another 6 inches without burning the tops of your plants? It will make a big difference in your harvest... A BIG DIFFERENCE

if you can get a fan blowing between the canopy and the lights... you're in the money
