Does any of this happen to you?

Ok I've been smoking at least twice a week since April and lately I've been noticing a few things and I'de just like to know if any of my fellow tokers notice the same things.

First, I generaly don't care as much about anything. If I do poorly on a test now I'm more like whatever where as before I would have freaked out and started going through all the possibilitys of how to fix it. (Test is just an example could be anything)

Second, my really really short term memory is going haywire. Someone will tell me there name and in literaly 30 seconds I will have forgot it unless I had some reason to say it again. Also I'll like get off the comp and go get a drink and on my way back I try to think what I was just doing and it takes me a while to remember.

Last, words dont come to me as easy. When trying to say a sentence sometimes I'll forget like one word in it and have to pause to think of it and then continue. Same goes with spelling when writing. I'll just totaly forget how to spell a word that should flow out naturaly.

Does any of this happen to you guys? If so have you found any clever ways to help reduce or help them? All comments are apreciated.

I remember when I was smoking a quarter a week, my vocabulary just.. LEFT. I'm surprised you say that; I don't think I've ever heard about it from anyone else. Now that I don't smoke as much, it's not as bad.. but I still have those moments. It took me like a minute to search for the word "compatible" yesterday (was talking about computers). As for spelling? Nah. My spelling's fine. :p

About the test thing... same thing is happening to me. it's like i really dont care anymore. I would use to be like depressed if i failed a test now im like whoopie. lol

^ lol same. its kinda bad, but dude cmon, im just like w.e fuck it, im nto gona let school ruin my life. and i try to get good grades and have fun. but yea i understand.

yes...all of it... ;) i used to have a flourishing vocabulary,i read lmost all the time(still do really,i love reading when i'm stonned,it's easy to picture the the test in your mind)but now i'll stop mid-sentence and totaly forget what i was even talking about,or if i'm distracted in any way i forget what the hell is going on,luckily i'm takeing a break....because i have no weed...because i don't have a good dealer....because i don't have any money...becasuse i'm have no job....because my car doesn't work...and so on ;)

Lmao I'm the same way dude. Just look at it more positively.. rather than thinking "o shit I'm stupid and really forgetful" realize how much more focused and relaxed you are, it's a trade off but I'll accept it any day.

yea...i was smokin liek at least once a week durint he summer and have cut back now. but i still find that my short term memory isnt as good. i will put somethin somwhere, then forget where it is like 5 seconds later. i also find my vocabulary isnt as easy to use. bigger more complicated words dont come as easily, i have to think about them and try to remember them. it gets kinda anoyin sometimes.

i smoked every day and now that i havent in a month and a half i forget words like that. ill be in a sentence and then forget the word and it will take me sometimes 5 seconds to rember it. i also used to have trouble remembering things mostly when i was leaving somewhere i would say to myself rember this and then forget it and remember it when i just pulled out and drove down the street and have to come back to my house and get it. but in school i could always recall vocabulary and such very easily after only reading it once.

Yeah all that stuff you mentioned same goes for me. I forget shit all the time.

One thing i hate alot is when i write a test (mainly math) high and think that i did so good on it and feel so confident but when i get it back its a complete fail. I hate that shit!

95% of what you said happens to me almost everyday it kinda sucks ill be telling a story and i will have to think of a word nd it wont come to me for like a min, happens the most with descriptive words

except for spelling that's how i am all the time and always have been. weed had nothing to do with it.

maby if you start using simpler words instead of higher vocabulary it wont happen as much because it does usually happon with drscriptive words most of the times and it usually when im looking for a good one.

The more you use the more complex words, the easier it is for them to flow in conversation.

the only thing that it really affects me bad in is the short term memory category. Ill puy pot somewhere in my room, forget about it cause i was stoned, and then find it a month later...its kinda good cuz i find pot in random places but it sucks cuz i have to buy more sometimes...like one time i found a bag in my computer..idk how it got there but when i opened up my computer one day a bag was just sitting there...same thing happened in my alarm clock once.

One more question have any of you stopped and your short term memory comes back and such?? Thats what I'm realy afraid of.

But yeah to answer your question lots of that stuff does come back after a while of being sober.

It used to happen to me a lot, but now I just live in a situation with a lot of stoner musicians and shit and I smoke several times a day, and I've just gotton used to functioning stoned so I can recall shit and think just fine when I'm stoned now. Just gotta excercise those muscles while your stoned. Do all of your language arts homework stoned. The worst thing for your brain is not being in school. When you're in school you are doing that shit everyday and it stays in your mind crisp. When you're out of school and you're spending more time doing stupid things instead of smart things and then go back you lose a lot of that shit. Like today I was trying to figure out how much change you would get back if you took .97 from 1.00. And I coulden't do it so I had to ask my manager to use her calculator because I knew I was close but I wasn't sure so I just wanted to make sure.

these things happen because you smoke too much pot. just cut back a bit for awhile man. that is why i only smoke heavily during the summer months so that i can preform well in school. if you cant cut back the smoke then you could try reading more because that will help your memory vocab and stuff like that. i dont know but i mean marijuana DOES have harmful side effects ( many people on this forum would wish to deny this) just cut back on smoking a bit and take it easy.

Iâ??ve noticed that I donâ??t care about some stuff as much as I used to. On the other hand when I go back to being sober it seems like sometimes I start to care about stuff too much. Iâ??m not just talking about school and stuff but caring about things related to your life. Sometimes when Iâ??m sober Iâ??ll think too much about stuff and because Iâ??m naturally pessimistic, I tend to think of the future in kind of a depressing way. Its much better to just not care and live life. I can see how it might be a problem with school, but then again I think there is so much to school that is just BS that maybe its better to not careâ?¦

I definitely have interesting things happen with my short term memory. Well actually I donâ??t know really what the deal is. It seems like I become really focused on one idea, at the expense of other ideasâ?¦ Like if I was walking somewhere, but got sidetracked along the way, Iâ??d become so focused on whatever I got sidetracked on that I canâ??t remember where I was walking to.


I noticed that I stutter sometimes now when I talk, which was kinda scary at first. It seems like I want to think faster than my mouth can talk, and of course it usually gets hitched up on the big words. Iâ??m not sure if itâ??s a bad thing though. I think that when you smoke, it changes the way you think in a way that perhaps makes it slightly less optimal for vocal communication. Hmmmâ?¦ how can I describe it betterâ?¦ Well like when you suck at reading, you usually read the letters in each word, word by word. When you get better at reading all you really have to do is look at each word briefly. When you get really good at reading sometimes you can just kinda look at the entire sentence or at least multiple words at a time. Reading multiple words at a time as opposed to sounding out each word is going to be a lot faster, but you are probably more likely to misread a word when you read multiple words at a time. When I think of speaking while high, I think of this kinda in reverse. When you are high thoughts flow very fast and freely, but the chance of being able to accurately reproduce those words with your mouth goes down a little. Perhaps maybe just more of a tradeoff rather than a negative? At least the problem seems to go away if I stop smoking for a while.

When I was a waiter out in Arizona I was basically HELPLESS when I was stoned or at home. I could function but it was just..spacey. I was smoking half oz's a day..mids at best sometimes dro. I was blazing everyday and my short term memory was gone. Suprisingly I could remember orders though. Just at home I would lose something, look for it, forget what I was looking for, than stop searching and be like Where's my lighter..and start looking for it again.

I smoked an average of 3 times a week over the summer, and this year I'm paying for it. I have trouble (more trouble than I used to, anyway) with dealing with the abstract concepts of calculus, and my vocabulary has suffered slightly.

However, I believe pot has done more good than harm in my life. Before I started smoking (10th grade), I was really, -really- nerdy and uptight--about everything. After I started smoking, I became a lot more relaxed. I learned to have fun and not take everything personally. I really think the pot had a lot to do with it-- it broke some of my artificial boundaries, and allowed me to loosen my standards a bit. Mind you, it's senior year now and I'm passing 4 AP classes with A's or B+'s in all of them, and doing many extracurriculars. I keep smoking to the weekend, and have never moved on to harder drugs.

I've had a lot of problems like that. I find that just smoking on the weekends or when I know I don't have anything important coming up helps though. You just need to know yourself and how much weed you can handle. And if you smoke less frequently, when you do smoke you will get higher, and you will also save money.

Yeah i guess yo would call it being a burnout i have the same problems. what website am i on again?

I read a lot,almost all period,every period in school,i take words on a page exactly as you described in your third example,several at a time,and i sometimes do misread a word,I'll think they is this or them,or something similar to that.I also have a problem with stuttering,I'll start a word and not be able to pronounce or remember how to pronouce the rest of the word and have to settle for another,less accurate,description.But I think it is for the best really,marijuana lets ne look at things from a differnt prespective,sometimes a better one.

But it also has a lot of what i would consider negetive effects,I've noticed lately it takes a lot more will power to do my work in school and it certainly takes a lot more will power to do my extra curicular activitys,on the other hand my reading couldn't be better,I've gone though two books this week and have gotten about 100 pages into another(I meantlast week but for some reason when i go back to retype something it erases what I've writen,anyone know why?)but haven't read at all in two days because i am out of weed,I guess it's a trade off that is hard to accept for me,but one i have accepted ;)
