What strain would you pick?

Hello guys,

As you may know, I'm about to begin my first grow.

Overview: 1000W, cabinet LST SCRoG, hydro NFT

I've got two strains: White Widow
and Bubblelicious

For the experienced, what strain do you suggest? I'm going to plant only one of them.

I appreciate all the help. I plan on planting the seeds (from the selected strain) and growing a couple of them. Then changing over to 12/12 to determine sex. After I've got my females, I re-veg them (18/6) and take clones from them. Those clones are the ones I put into the individual mesh-pots of the hydro NFT.

god.. such a kickass band. I have my own recording of what I got if your interested lol.. dont have alot of CD's from them but I grew up with a teenage bro in the nineties, and inevitably :), got introduced to sublime when I was like 6... so I have a huge library on limewire though lots and lots of sublime.. I remember one cd though with the main guys back on it I think, wit sublime tatted across, and HELLS yea send me rivers of babylon man anything I havnt heard from thems gotta b worth listening 2.. my emails [email protected]

Heya turtle.

My suggestion would to be mix th2 strains, label pots and put a WW seed in 1 pot, and put a Bubblicious seed in 1 pot.

Grow 2 and lst them. I think you would get some massively big buds my friend.

But Turtle420.. I think.. hm... from what I smoked... White widow has an exellent high even though I havent had Bubblelicious before, and after bag seed, If I had the chance between the two I would have chosen White widow.. but I could only find Jamaican Reds so thats what I grew after the bag seed.

Turtle - how early can you switch from veg. stage to flower inorder to determine sex. and after you get the females can you go back to re-veg at 24hr light?

How early veg-->flower?
I don't know. My plans are to post pictures here constantly and watch for the comments from our grower friends.

I'm almost 100% sure that YES you can do it. The INs and OUTs of the thing, I'm not sure. But yeah, you can do it. Although I was thinking of using 18/6, instead of 24/0, don't know why.

White Widow.. for the EXTREME high

Thanks people... yesterday night I picked White Widow.

The reason I don't want to grow two different strains is because there will be too much disimilarity. I've got a small cabinet (20"x40"x48") and it will be a SCRoG. So I'm thinking that it's going to be hell when one strain grows at a different rate than the other... or when one strain is ready to harvest but the other isn't yet. Things like that.

For such reason, I picked the White Widow. I followed KidKind's FAQ @ overgrow.com and did as he said for germination:
Glass of water, one drop of Superthrive (actually, I let like 3 drops go down...)
Initially, they're all floating.
As the hours go by, they started to sink, one by one. By hour 6, only 1 seed was left floating at the surface... I agitated the water a little bit, and it went under.
Then I took a Ziplock container (the disposable plastic 'small boxes') and placed a paper towel on the bottom.
Then I moistened the towel with the same Superthrive solution, and I placed my 5 seeds on the towel.
I plaed the lid on the box (box, bowl, whatever) and placed that on top of my crappy router. At least the router is being usefull for something! God knows it sucks for my WiFi routing needs... (God damn you Belkin!)

Let's see how they turn out. I'll keep you guys updated.

C'mon! Let me in! What I'm trying to do is a LST SCRoG. I've read that a SCRoG is a pain in the ass to do from seedlings (HarddOn's experience), that's the reason I've decided to start off with clones.
Sticky, what do you suggest? Is there a better, faster way?

What do you mean "cloning for sex"?
As to the pre-flowers showing, how much time do you think that could take? I was thinking of given them 12/12 to accelerate the process...

you could wait a few weeks, then take a clone and put this clone right on 12/12 so you force it to flower and 1 or 2 weeks later you'll see the sex.

you wanna put them under the cfl's as soon as they sprout, but before that, no light at all. keep a fan blowing on the cfls so you can keep them close to your plant. they sell a 43w cool watt at HD and wal-mart i think, 2 or 3 of them would be alright for the first two or 3 weeks and u dont need any special socket to use them. keep us updated man looking forward to see what will happen with your grow.

no black lights dont do shit for growing, dont even listen to this guy, there must be a good reason why he got banned. cfl's are the way to go for seedlings, you can also use fluoro tubes. peace

Hello guys...

Yesterday night, I transplanted the seeds to two pots filled with a Pro-Mix/soil mix.

Here's a pic of the seed that's most photogenic... :)

I bought some 43W CFLs for "reading" and and placed them on top.

They grew! They're bigger now than in the morning!!!!!

Should I keep the CFLs turned ON for the entire night? 24/0 ?

Or do I put some timers on them and give them 18/6?

Read the lumen output, and make sure you have atleast 8,000 lumens per plant in cfl's... Happy to hear you've got seeds! Be very careful not to disturb the tap root.. I soak my seeds till they go to the bottom of the cup then sow 1/4" deep in fully saturated soil, never to water them again. Monitor moisture levels frequently and be very careful as it is extremely easy to overwater a seed and cause pythium rot :) Good luck man

Oh looks like you've got sprouts... yes keep them under 24/0 for now. I even use 24/0 for the entire veg... you can make the plants grow faster this way and they're havn't been any reports of undue stress of hermies. Photosynthesis is the process of the plants taking in light and co2 and making food, in turn causing growth. So of course, if you constantly supply your babies with plenty of both they will thrive :D

Now that you mention the never to be watered again,:::
I placed a small mixture of my pot mix (soil/pro-mix) with the gel crystals... These are the gel crystals that puff-up when you pour water on them.

Anyways, I though these crystals would really help out because they would hold moisture for the small tap roots to use.

When or around what week is it good to take a clone from ur plant? Can you leave the clone together with the mother in the veg stage untill the clone or clones catch up, in order to enter the flowering stage together?

hey turtle just to clear up some of my confusion, after they sprouted you buried them 1/4'' inch down in the soil with the tap root down ... right??... because sprouts shouldent be just layed on top of the soil like that with a light on them....

the clones for determining sex should be taken after the plant has 6 or 8 nodes on it. you then establish roots for the clone ,then place it in 12/12 lighting (12light12dark) sex should be determined in 10 to 14 days.

pot plants are male,female,or hermie's

males are too low in thc content to smoke, females are what you want, hermies can be good, they are as potent as females if you can keep it from self polinating,(cut off balls), also if you cut off the balls of a hermie save them because if you polinate another female (not the plant they came off) You will get 100% female seeds, (this wont work if you polinate the plant they come off) it hast to be a totally different plant (not a clone of the hermie).

No seedbare, I did not.

I didn't leave them on the surface... but I inserted them about 0.25" deep into the gel/soil mix. But I don't think this is working out too well... So right now, being 3:20am, I'm going to replant my 5 sprouts about 0.25" into the soil with the tap root looking down.

Hey... just an update of these seeds...

I transplanted from the gel stuff to the soil, and already they're taking shape.

Seems that in the gel, they were like: Dude, this sucks... this crappy gel isn't going to help us out much... HELP! Get us out of here!

So now in the soil, they took a "grab" of the soil and now they're standing up! Nice :)

Hey Rasta, hello again...

I have the box of the CFLs, and they read:
ENERGY USED: 42 watts
LIGHT OUTPUT: 2700 lumens
BULB LIFE: 10,000 hours
APPLICATION: growing Cannabis strains

I see that you suggest having 8000 lumens per plant... Ok, so with three of these bulbs I would be getting 8100 lumens... BUT! And here's the but, I plan of using these plants as mothers... NOT as my main grow.

Once they're bigger, I'd like to take clones, and give the clones 12/12 to determine sex. For the actual female clones I'm going to use in my hydro NFT LST SCRoG (cool when I write all that, seems so "wow") I'll be using a 600W HPS + a 400W MH.

Do you think I still should buy more bulbs?

PS: I'm just fucking around with the "APPLICATION: growing Cannabis strains"

Id just get them to 2 weeks then use your metal halide, you could set them near a window in the day-light for extra kelvins and lumens till there 2 weeks. Also on lights there is a kelvin temperature idealy they should be at 6500k the one's they sell at wall-mart wont work to well, id check out home depot for the high kelvin &lumen kind. also you need to get those cfl's 1 to 2 inches from your plants when they pop up or there going to stretch too much and fall over killing them.
