Anyone ever have their light timer melt????
The timer that one of my 1000 watt Hps lights is plugged into apparantly got so hot it melted the timer inside and the light plug slipped/fell right out of the timer  . Looking at the prongs on the adapter and they have white melted plastic on them from the timer. I would guess this is not an ordinary occurance, anyone got any idea what would have caused this? Same timer and light I used the last couple months without any problem ????
And one other quick Question Having a Mother Plant in soil does not mean you can't clone off of her for Hydro does it? are there drawbacks?
Thanks :D

Man you got lucky.. Was it a dual timer? What brand? Is it rated for lighting/heavy duty.. What all did you have plugged into one circuit...

Anyone ever have their light timer melt????
Make sure you buy the nicer timers that are rated for the number of amps you are pulling off it. Also smell you ballast to see if it smells burnt. If so have it checked out.

soil mother makes great hydro clones.. : )
makes great clones...PERIOD

Anyone ever have their light timer melt????
Is there any reasons that making clones off a re-vegged plant would not work out optimal?

i have made LOTS of clones over the years and i've taken them off "regular" and re-vegged mothers, and i would guess, that it makes no difference, but to be honest: i don't know
this is actually a very good question.

Hello Bill :) well I'll probably be no help at all here but I'll try.
Have you got all the right bits to the ballast/transformer thing ?.........When I bought mine the man in the shop said I needed a little box so I didn't melt the timer.
Sorry Bill thats all I know :o the man at the shop was going on about Amps and watts, allsorts of things and I just wanted all I needed to grow cannabis, pay him and get out of there. He just went totally over my head with it all so I kinda switched off to him ;)

Anyone ever have their light timer melt????
nice to read responses , not only do I learn but also find them enjoyable.
trummel-I am trying to reveg a few of my plants that were mangled , never tried to reveg before it will be interesting. looking to get clones. As long as they clone alright hopefully there won't be any reason for them to be any less productive. guess it will be hard to see since I was deprived of there original yeild but if you found nothing substantially different using reveg clones they should be ok I think , aye?
Mand- always a delight to read your post. Interesting that there is a box to add that prevents the timer from melting. The timer I used was good for 15 amp 1550 watts so should not have melted running a 9 amp 1000 watt light unless I am missing something. not much of an electrician myself. Wonder what the box was though? been running about 23 amp + my computer off of a 30 amp breaker don't think that it is overloaded?
Thanks,
Bill :D

Hello Bill :) Me again ....................well my daughter brought the camera back tonight. Anyway my son did some photo's of the lamp stuff, so you can see that box thing. It says timer and power in on one side and power out on the other.
I honestly have no idea what it is but the man in the shop seemed to think it was important ;)

Oh I didn't go out to do the pics because I've got a really horrible cold :(

Anyone ever have their light timer melt????
basically u were pulling to much power from ur timer so it go hot and melted, it tok a few months but it happened id say u need a better timer and make sure u know how many amps it can handle and how many amps ur system is pulling from it. make sure the amps the timer can hold is the same of above what ur set up is pulling.

DaBuh-The timer I used was good for 15 amp 1550 watts so should not have melted running a 9 amp 1000 watt light unless I am missing something. Your probably right when you say I need a better timer. The only other thing I , (myself, not being much of an electrician) that I noticed was the plug adapter was melting as well . Perhaps the adapter had something to do with it ??
Mand- Your a doll ty for responding with the pics. Not sure what it is but I would like to find out . I have never seen one nor came across one in my research that I did before buying my lights. It obviously is not a bad safeguard to have.
Sorry to hear your not feeling too well and hope you get well and are feeling good right away. Is it getting cold in those parts about now? Do you live in the city or are you in the country? I'm in the city and would really prefer to be in the country , so much more peaceful. Didn't think of England having a winter or summer just always figured it was always just foggy  ......lol :D (teasin ya) Hey what does Mardy mean?
Well, hope you feel better soon
Thanks for the trouble of getting those pics , that was nice of you,
peace,

Anyone ever have their light timer melt????
I hear ya DaBuh!! never even contemplated having my timer melt. Thats part of the reason I posted the problem so others might be aware. I'm just lucky I caught it it could have been a real disaster. Not a common thing though. Mand has a small box that is for preventing this. Doesn't sound like a bad thing to have .
Peace

Anyone ever have their light timer melt????
Hello Bill :) I just don't know what it is called but I'll try and find out, what I do know is the man said the timer needed it to work properly, but like I said he just went over my head with it all :o
Yes Autum is here now Bill and the weather is getting cooler, my plants will start to slow down by the time it gets to November and the frosts start.
I live on the edge of town so I really get the best of both worlds, town for shopping and then I have the feilds and woods for taking my dogs walks................also for collecting my horse muck ;)
Oh and "mardy" means to have a bit of a "sulk", not that I ever do that :o ................well maybe just a little now and again ;)
love mand xxx :)
I'll try and find out what the box thing is called :)

Anyone ever have their light timer melt????
That was basically what I thought it was... a relay for the lights so they don't melt the timer...
I'm just wondering (this is my situation): My heavy-duty (what ever that means) timers cost me $6 @ Home Depot... Instead of forking over about $100 (50 British pounds? more or less?) for this relay, why don't you buy 3 or 4 timers... if it melts, change it... Of course, unless you're afraid of a fire or something...

Anyone ever have their light timer melt????
Hello Turtle :) Yes I thought £50 for that is very exspensive. I'm not sure how much mine cost because I bought the whole lot together, all the light stuff, the bulbs, the timer, the box thing and an exstension cable. In total it came to £220 and I only had a budget of £200 but I kept smiling and he let me off the £20 :)
Mind you this was in 1998 so they will be more exspensive now, when I bought the two new bulbs a few months ago they cost nearly £60 alone

Anyone ever have their light timer melt????
Appreciate the effort and information mand . I was looking over the other items on the link you provided alot of them , including the timer relay were new to me. Going to do something with it when I have a few extra bucks. It was again nice of you.
What kind of dogs do you have? have a couple dogs myself one is an english terrier shepperd breeded for fighting but of course I am not into that but she's a good dog. Got into it with two pit bulls once and held her own pretty good (well at least until I could get her on the otherside of the fence lol)she surprised me though.
Hey Turtle if you have a timer melt down replacing with another cheap one is not to good an idea if I had not been there when mine melted to catch it, It could of burned the house down. Might want to think over that idea.
thanks for the post everyone and ty Mand for taking the time to get that info for everyone.
Peace
Bill
Oh and mand you probably could of got more than 20 off the price smiling or at least should have
