What do you think happens when you die?
I hured a scientific explanation before : Everything that exists has matter and energy. This energy Always will exist in the form of matter. So when you die your still around. This has been proven that the energy is always around. The question is wheter or not your thoughts stay with it. like you can go anywhere in the form of energy. wat you think about this or what are your thougt?

Your "energy" is still there. It gets eaten up by worms and bacteria and such after you die. But your thoughts are not contained in simple energy alone. They are the result of the complex electrochemical reactions of the neural system of the brain. After the brain decays, there is no hope of ever being able to retrieve the information your thoughts once held. Since brain damaged people have diminished capacities for thinking, remembering, and other basic brain functions, it stands to reason that they would all stop completely if the brain's activity was damaged to the point of non-functionality.
we had this conversation with liquor and weed. I mean think about it. Kets say theres no heaven or hell. Its unimaginable wat can happen. Ur thoughts just dissapearing.
I also think religion is bullshit. Think about it. If you killed someone your mom loves u enough to forgive you. WOuldnt God forgive you. WOuld he send you to hell for all eternity for something you did on ur 80 years here?

and it's kinda scary to think about BUT it's something we all have to face.
i seem to think about this stuff in a totaly dif way, i believe things simply are; there is no "souls, spirits, other dimension..", everything just sort of happens, and for no particular purpose,
our consciousness is just something that coincidentally happened, the odds of awareness existing, even just life existing, were so small, but it was bound to happen, because life is the only thing that obeys time, everything else, molecules, atoms, just are, and eventually created us,
so when we die, we simply break down, the super-complex patterns of atoms that allow us awareness breakdown, nothing more, people made up the idea of afterlife because of what sharpestoner said, it would suck so bad to be nothing, something to hard to think about,
god is just an idea that gives us comfort, that atleast there is something that will right all wrongs in the end, most religious ideas are just made to help people cope
If you truly think you are wise, accept that you know nothing at all.
Right now I'm more worried about whats going to happen before I die.
Damn stedric beat me to it, We truly have no more than circumstantial evidence for anything (including oblivion). Even scientists split pretty much down the middle especially since a recent Dutch Research Project. If you cross reference "consciousness after brain death" (which as far as WE know is scientifically impossible but it does happen). Which is basically what has most scientists arguing about it. Much like how only within the last decade or so were we able to figure out mathematically how a fly flies (before it was "mathematically impossible" now its not....thats how science works people). Live and learn.
Nothing is certain in death. Other than that your "meat" does rot......
Using the same logic most people who believe in oblivion use you could easily argue that since consciousness after brain death exists (a scientific impossibility although we know its not now im just saying that for reference sake) that oblivion would be implausible as this(study) basically says there's a part of our consciousness's function which we have no freaking clue about. NONE , nadda...zip....bupkiss....Which means truly any supposition other than personal belief has no basis at all. It would be like convicting a man of murder because he matches most of the suspects description.....
Never stop looking , just dont plan on knowing it ;) till your dead that is. At least eventually we'll all know.

When i was about 7 i asked my mum what you saw when you died (she believes that when you die, that's it, you are dead, there is nothing else, it's just the absolute end), and she told me you see nothing, as you can't see anything, and i kept on asking her if you just saw black (like when you close your eyes) and i just couldn't comprehend the fact that you see nothing, and are nothing anymore. Then i went on to ask if you saw blue, red, green etc. and she kept trying to explain that once you die, you see nothing anymore, and i just couldn't understand that at such a young age lol.
I'd LOOOOOVE there to be an afterlife, but that doesn't seem too hopeful

I believe when you die it's just like sleeping without being able to dream. I know a person dreams every night, it's just weither he or she can remember their dreams, but the nights when you can't remember your dreams, isn't it like nothing exists? When you sleep your concious brain isn't relaying infomation that you can specify, or identify.
I deffo don't believe in heaven & hell, they were just scare tactics made up by an out dated dead religion; christianity.
I definately DO believe in Heaven and Hell. It's like what Einstein said, Matter is always here, matter has always existed. People always ask where did god come from? Well we cannot destroy matter we cannot create it, It's just always been here. There HAS to be a god and a heaven. For thi much intelligence, this much emotion, this many senses and experiences, it all HAS to lead to something after this. I'm almost 100% positive there is after life and god is waiting for us all there. This is just my opinion. How you other people live with yourselves thinking there is nothing else....have a nice life, cause that's terrible.
It's not terrible. Believing in god & heaven is a sense of false security. Life must be bad when anyone has to rely on a god or the thought of going to heaven.

The Christian idea of Heaven and Hell seems completely ridiculous to me for a few reasons. First of all, the whole idea of Hell (eternal punishment) goes against the idea of forgiveness which Christians claim to embrace. It seems that forgiveness only lasts until you are dead, at which point your good deeds and bad deeds are tallied up in some cosmic computer or something which calculates whether you pass the goodness threshhold for admittance into Heaven. After that point forgiveness is a meaningless concept; in Hell everybody is branded as evil for their sins and they all suffer the exact same punishment of eternal burning, no matter whether they killed 6 million Jews or just said something bad about the Holy Ghost.
Meanwhile, in another invisible part of the universe nobody has ever been able to find with any telescope, other "souls" who happened to accept Jesus are all rewarded indiscriminately with eternal happiness (except for the eternal pain of knowing many of their loved ones are being tortured forever). According to Christian dogma, it doesn't matter if you're the Pope or you've been sinning your whole life but "found Jesus" just before you died, you get a ticket to eternal bliss (unless you said something bad about the Holy Ghost, in which case it's Hell no matter how many years you serve as Pope or how hard you try to find Jesus).

He doesnt hate christians so much as anyone who believes in their complete rightness and have such a conviction that they are right. Christianity has about 2.1 billion followers. Thus the majority of humanity is actually non-Christian. I could understand not liking Jesus, considering how he pulled off one of the most widely believed lies in history. But I don't hate Jesus, since for all I know what he really did might have been distorted in the many years following his death before the Bible was written. Or he might not have even existed at all; the debate abong (non-dogmatic) historians on that subject still isn't resolved.Quote:

I have Christian friends, I have an intense dislike for Christian nutbars and televangelists, and some Christian views get under my skin. On the other hand some secular views get under my skin as well so there you go.
My girlfriend is Baptist so I can't really hate all Christians.

I think Warlock may have been a little rash when speaking with such certainty about christians, when Im sure he just dislikes those that manipulate the religion to their benefit and use their religion to attempt to manipulate others. As a christian you should dislike those kinds of christians as well. Unfortunately, there's enough of those types of christians in this world that people of different beliefs get an uneasy feeling when someone says they're a christian. But I completely agree that there are many loving, caring god-fearing people in this country and world who live everyday to try to make lives better for others, they do not deserve to be hated based on their belief in God.Quote:
