Maybe if I was 16 years old and had nothing to lose I would be glad to cover my car in leaf stickers but I live in the real world. I wouldn't do anything to give a law enforcement official heads-up about my smoking habits. Having these stickers isn't illegal and I HIGHLY doubt I would be pulled over simply for having one of these on my car. Though, what happens when I am out at 2am and one of my headlights goes out resulting in me getting pulled over? If that cop happens to notice one of my pro-canna stickers do you think he is more or less likely to ask to search my car?
They call it "bumper-sticker-activism" for a reason. It's really nothing more than an attempt to piss off whoever is tailgating you and to me that isn't worth getting busted over.

You assume too much. We are talking about bumper stickers for heaven's sake. Let me break it down so that there isn't further confusion:
I think bumper-stickers are a weak form of activism that isn't worth the plastic the things are printed on. There are more effective, courageous, and SMARTER forms of activism.
We have seed vendors facing life sentences and you want to slap a bumper-sticker on your car and call yourself an activist? Please. Wag your finger at someone else.

Pro-Cannabis Bumper Stickers
I agree. Bumper stickers do very little for your cause. What social progress has ever come about as a result of enough people putting the right bumper stickers on their cars? Bumper stickers hardly ever convince somebody who already disagrees with you that you're right. Broadcasting simplistic slogans is as about as useless in the struggle for legalization as voting is. We need to get out on the streets with our well thought-out arguments, and start protesting. Imagine what all the pot smokers in a major city could do if they got together in a park to toke up. History shows that civil disobedience can work wonders, but it's kind of hard to civilly disobey when your car is being searched by the pig who thinks he's got an easy bust on his hands.

Agreed, bumper stickers don't help much. However, letting people know that you smoke marijuana, and that you're not ashamed or afraid to admit it is similar to wearing a uniform, or carrying a flag. I'd put one or two of these stickers on my car for that reason alone.

Pro-Cannabis Bumper Stickers
Im going to get one because I do believe they do something. It makes the soccer moms realize thats drugs arent some big bad thing looming in the distance and they are in fact right there in front of her. If marijuana bumper stickers were as prevalent as american flags during 9/11 im pretty sure the public opinion would be much highter of marijuana thus leading to its quicker legalization.

How many times has your opinion been changed at a red light?
Personally, when I see stupid one-line slogans on the back of a car, I don't think, "Hey! Maybe they're right!" I think more along the lines of, "Keep your opinions to yourself."
And to be even more honest, sometimes I even get angry.
-
Pro-Cannabis Bumper Stickers
sPEAKING FROM EXPERIEnce..
nobody gets angry with me. to be honest its very liberating having the sticker. you'd think more stoners would be for this, they'd jump on it! cause the more people waving the metaphorical "cannabis flag" the better, right? so my question is..why are some of you actively against it? It makes no sense. We need to unite and show our unity in order to accomplish our goals with haste.

Pro-Cannabis Bumper Stickers
People are against it because it's not a very effective form of activism. Gatherings thousands if not hundreds of thousands if not millions of people together, and have them all smoke weed in front of the White House for example, would be true activism.
Putting a sticker on your car merely exercisizes freedom of speech, and not much else.
Honestly, have you ever had an opinion, saw a bumper sticker that preached otherwise and changed your mind?
Be realistic-- bumper stickers can express dissatisfaction, but they don't rally in the streets.
Think about MLK for instance, do you think the fight for civil rights would've been as effective had every black person in the nation placed some bumper stickers on street corners?
It's nice and sweet, but it won't do anything to change the laws which is what we really need to be focusing on.

Explain this to me;
How can not using Cannabis related bumper stickers be a more effective form of activism than using them? +lol+

Fine, fine--
I tried explaining it rationally, but I guess not. So go ahead and cover your car in pro-cannabis bumper stickers and see what you get done, besides a search.
Idealistic approaches like bumper stickers are lazy, unimaginative forms of activism. Nothing will ever get done and no dream will ever be realized if your idea of activism is a slogan.
-
Pro-Cannabis Bumper Stickers
Nobody ever said that those who use bumper stickers must only use bumper stickers. +lol+ Some people don't engage in any kind of activism at all... so, for them, bumper stickers are an improvement.
Other people do engage in different kinds of activism and, for them, bumper stickers are just a novelty.
Look, they're better than doing nothing, so what's the problem? You've explained why they don't do much good, so now explain how they can do harm.
-
Pro-Cannabis Bumper Stickers
Say you've got weed in your car, and somebody hits you from behind-- it's not even your fault, you weren't speeding or anything so it's not your fault but a cop is called down. He arrives at the scene and notices you have pro-cannabis bumper stickers on your car. Even if it's not your fault, the thought of a DUI arises and your more prone to a search as opposed to somebody who didn't have the sticker on.
Look, expressing your beliefs is extremely important, but a weed bumper sticker just raises a red flag. Officers are still people, and wouldn't you be more inclined to search a car sporting drug-advocating slogans?
But that's an extreme example and chances are, things like that won't happen. The problem isn't that it's harmful, the problem is that it doesn't benefit the cause. Telling people at a red light how you feel makes you seem like an imposing person. If you truly want change, you need to get involved with real activism-- bumper stickers not only deter people from your cause, it increases your odds of a search. It might even be probable cause.

Pro-Cannabis Bumper Stickers
Okay I just took about five hits and I haven't smoked in about a month, so i'm totally high right now but I completely see your point.
Like you said, that might have been an extreme example, but I can see how it would add to the risk of being searched, or at least highten a suspicion that's already there. But I don't know, maybe some people just don't mind taking that risk. And if you're clever enough to never drive while stoned then that risk is minimised. I thought the word was minimilised. +lol+ I don't know which one's real and it took me ages to type both of them! :D
Anyway, I guess I can see how they're not a very effective as a method of activism. You've convinced me. But it still doesn't mean that using them will have any negative effects... Like I said earlier, maybe they don't do any good, per se, but unless you like to drive high or carry alot of weed in the car, then I don't see how they can do any harm... So why not? It obviously is an okay form of advertising because garages and radio stations (over here, anyway) give out bumper stickers with their logo on.
Anyway, zooted999, i've never spoken to you on these boards before. You're relatively new, and you seem pretty cool.. so I don't wanna start off on the wrong foot, you know? 'Cause if you stick around I don't want their to be bad vibes and stuff, so i'm GHoSToKeR, nice to meet you! I haven't been high for about 28 days and now i'm blazed! Welcome aboard! lol :)

How many people who *no longer live with their parents* think bumper stickers are a good idea?
Why give a cop a reason to pull you over? If you want to make a difference, go write to your legislators. Start an activism group and get public policy changed. Write a letter to your local paper. Do some research and present the facts to as many people as possible FACE TO FACE. Anonymity will only get you so far.

Why can't somebody do all that and put a fucking bumper sticker on their car? Why do these activities have to be mutually exclusive?

Pro-Cannabis Bumper Stickers
Nothing is gained from the bumper sticker. Let me put it this way, if you don't like George W, is a bumper sticker going to change your mind?
-
Pro-Cannabis Bumper Stickers
Nope, but i'll know that the person with the bumper sticker is a Bush supporter. Like I said, think of it as waving our flag...

0.O why would any stoner be against this?? buy a sticker put it on your car and enjoy :)
i drive around every day with stickers on my ride that are more offensive than this.
