The best method, I've heard (haven't actually tried it yet) is to mix a little isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol and table salt, put it in your pipe and shake it for a few minutes. Then dump it out and repeat if necessary. Wait for all the alcohol to evaporate before you use it again, because alcohol + flame = bad.

Of course, when you're shaking, you should have fingers over all the holes.

How long does it take for the alcohol to evaporate and in what sort of environment do you need to set it out?

yah, use the alc and salt solution or acetone. dissolves it pertty good. Environment? You're not going to blow up if that's what youre worried about. If your impatient, use a paper clip to speed it along. Make sure you rinse the excess alc off, just dont let it evap.

I meant which environment would be most conducive to evaporating, whether it be subject to light, heat, or open space. I also just meant whether I needed to wait like an hour or overnight, etc.

i have found a good method is to soak your pipe in vinegar for say like a day then all the crap is easy to wipe off with like a pipe cleaner. takes a little longer but works great. then you can boil it after that and it will really clean the rest of it out great. i do that every few weeks and when i am done you cant tell that my pipe has ever been used before.

I posted this on another board & someone said ewwwwwwwwwwww and I said Oh?? Why not???
My friend told me to use finger nail polish remover & it works great!!! Just put a little in, slosh it around... do it a few more times and it's clean as a whistle. Then I run some hot water thru.... dry it out good and alllllllllllllllllll set! :-)
So what's wrong with this method??? I'm thinking ya' may want to stick with non-acetone and if everyone else thinks I'm crazy then ohhhh welllll I'll keep my pipes clean!!! lol

Just so u know somone said u could use acetone
Acetone is main ingredient in nail polish remover

What reason would there be if any to not use acetone?
-

acetone is very poisonous to breath, its one of the ingredients when smoothing over wood and such.

after reading this thread yesterday i decided to clean my pipe ive had it for over a year and have only been scraping out the bowl once in a while. i took a freezer bag and pourd like 1/2 inch of rubbing alcohol and a teaspoon of salt heated in in the microwave for 10 seconds to get it very warm and place my pipe in the bag and ziped it shut and shook it for a few minutes, instantly the mixture turned dark brown. i did this 3 time and the pipe was totally clean, i then boiled it in pot of water and it lookes brand new. cause of the bag there was no mess and i didnt have to cover the carb, bowl and mouth piece.

All I do is take Rubbing Alcohol & heat it in a small tupperware container ( a throwaway ) in the microwave for about a minute. Take it out, and place a good amount of table salt in it. Toss in your piece & shake ( or you can let it sit ) and in 5 minutes, you piece is super clean. Rinse & dry well. Works with both glass & metal.

what about the resin? all your bong cleaning methods are good, but are me and my friends the only peole who scrape the resin to smear on joints and blunts or just to smoke in a bowl with some bud? just wondering, because that shit gets me lifted

no i love resin..i've developed tricks to build it faster....
-
Useable pipe cleaning liquids
umm if ur tryin to save resin put the pipe in a glass of water with the bowl at the bottom and throw it in the micro wave for like oh 45 seconds or however long it takes for ur piece o and the entire piece needs to be under water

just curious, how often do you guys clean your pipes?
-
Useable pipe cleaning liquids
i'd personally stay with more natural shit to clean with since your going to be breathing in from the peice... i like the vinegar idea, but my bong is still newish so i haven't had to give it a good cleaning yet.

Put it in a brown paper bag and if you have an airing room, for clothes put it in there the brown paper bag will absorb any left over liquids

umm letting a pipe or bong air dry is not complicated people. i mean shit its not a science, all u have to do is take it out of the source of wetness and sit it down and dont let it get wet anymore till its dry haha
