would this be a good light setup for a C13
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1
i found this 400 watt switchable system that comes with
both bulbs... there was a cheaper one, but the ballast
wasnt UL listed for safety... and with this kit both bulbs
are agromax.
i have a 150 watt HPS right now and a bunch of cool tube
flourescents...
is the price about right 270$ shipped?
i plan to get it when i get paid, but wanted some opinions first.
thanks.

There is no chance of installing glass insulators for heat. The problem with HID lights is the heat; you need to have an aircooled hood with glass as an insulator.
I like cool tubes with a vortex blower to keep the air moving. If you want to use HID lights in a C-13 cabinet you can either use AC or you can use aircooled hoods to keep the temperature down.

would i be better off with CFL's??? whats the best place to get
them and the sockets? which spectrum do i need?
thanks.

The DH 125w Economy Compact Fluorescent Fixture & bulbs.
Warm bulbs are (2700k) are best for general growth and flowering. Cool bulbs (6500k) are best for seedling, cloning and vegetative growth
You can use 400w HPS, I do but I also run AC and air cooled hoods too.
With air cooled hoods (you will spend more money) and good air flow air in and air out as well as a good fan for air movement you can run 400w HPS lights. I don't want you to think you can't use HID lights in C-13 cabinets because you can.

thanks for the link zandor... i run a 150 mini floralux right now and
my cabinet is not even 80 degrees most of the time... i have a series
of holes cut out of the back of the cabinet where i have fans running
on the lamp all the time that its on... the fans are mounted outside
the cabinet and bring in the new air from the outside...
ive got one plant flowering now and in over a week i dont have anything
that looks like a bud... just lots of pistols... i figure the 150 HPS and all
my cool tubes may not be the best setup for getting good buds out of
my cabinet...
would the 400 watts HPS be A LOT hotter in the cabinet? i know its
over double the power, but how does the heat ramp up? would i
be smarter to maybe just "add" like a 250 watt HPS to my current
150???
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
no the light penetration of a 150w is way less then the 250w. In a cabinet you mostly light from the top down so you would need to stagger the lights to make the penetration factor the same.
400w is great you just need air cooled hoods to vent out the heat.
I assume odor is not an issue with you then?
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
odor hasnt been too much of an issue. the gear is all in my
basement and weve got air fresheners coming up the stairs...
plus the cat box is down there too so it smells like all kinds of
sh1t anyways...
i stopped at my local harvest moon and talked to them, they have
a 400 watt setup that comes with both bulbs and is esentially the
same light i have now on steroids... ive got a mini floralux right
now which is white with the ballast built in and the glass shield
like you said... the 400 watt version is 299.99 ? is that an "ok"
price???
i may be going out on a limb, but would a 600 watt setup just
be overkill for my situation??? which is basically 4-6 plants
in a C13...
thanks.
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
A 600w is great but again you must have an air cooled hood and a good blower to move cool air in and hot air out quickly. I assume you have Mylar on the walls of your C-13 too?

yes, there is mylar on everything but the ceiling. would the 600
be WAY hotter than the 400? also what should i expect to pay for
a 600?
-

Hey stewie, I wouldn't try to run a 600watter in a C-13
cabinet, they're too high maintainence for the C-13.
The 400 watter is the perfect HID for the C-13. It'll
give you 50++watts/sqF. Which you'll love.
Zandor is right about the cooling method. An aircooled
hood with glass shield is a must for the 400watt sorry.
The vortex power fans are great for this situation, I meyslef don't have one yet,
but soon will.
Right now I"m running a 265cfm hydrofarm blower which works
great. Now my cab only runs with a 250watt hps, yet I"ve heard
it can keep it cool with the 400watt as well :).
What I would do if I were you, is look into a vortex somwhere
in the range of 200cfm, not only can you keep your whole cab
cool with that bad boy, includes venting your light, but it requires
about half the power a dyton or hydrofarm blower does.
To give you an idea, my hydrofarm blower requires 250watts of power.
A 200cfm vortex requires around 175watts of power. HUGE difference
when it comes to the total project consumption of electricity
Good luck and great choice with your choice in a cabinet.
Two yeilds out of that cabinet got me 1/2 pound, with a 250watt hps.
peace.

awesome... thanks for the advice. ive been thinking that the
400 watt with the two bulbs would be the best choice for my
cab. when i bought the cabinet i didnt even know it was like
a "known" thing... the C13... its pretty cool, i just happend to
get it at home depot... otherwise i had planned on getting
something from target or similiar.
now ive just got to muster up three hundred clams and an
explaination for my g/f why the 150 she got me 3 months
ago isnt enough...
my current grow just turned for the worse though, i think 2 more
of my plants are gonna be male... that makes 1 fem 3 males and
one unknown. if i end up with just the one female i will probably
hold off the lamp til i start my next project.
a QP a yield would be a fantastic result one day... but first ive
got to get a girl to live that long...
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
Well that 150 would get you some decent
buds if you kept those floros in there as well.
I think one of the main reasons for your high
male/female ratio is due to the low circulation, high temps
and to my understanding 0% air exchange.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
If you want to save the money for this crop, or
the next which sounds soon to come, invest in
a 265cfm hydrofarm blower at mdhydro.com for 75$
with shipping.
From the sound of everything else: lighting, ferts
and growing medium, in my opinion you'll do fine.
keep us updated bro.

i made a little paint picture of how my setup is rigged, i
hope its somewhat clear. i think i get decent air exchange
this way, i know its not perfect, but this is my first female
flowering plant and i have a lot to learn and a long way to
go.
the temp is pretty consistant around 83 degrees or so. if
this one female ends up as my only female i think ill do ok
with the 150 and bump of the lights for the next attempt.
i think ive got to look into trying to get a few clones off
this female while ive got her... is 10 or so days into flowering
with no bud sites yet too late to clone? should i take
secondaries from the bottom or top? also about how
long/tall should the clones be? and finally about how many
clones could i safely take from a 35" skinny ass plant without
killing it?
thanks everyone. if my girlfriend didnt have the camera i
would take pics for ya...
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
Start taking clones now !!!!
If you want to keep your skinny ass
gal alive only take half or less of her
vegative growth.
please keep us updated, and I'll keep stoppin
by, peace
-

stopped by the plant shop today, but the one guy i talk
to there wasnt in so ill stop on monday and hopefully
get the cloning gear...
so do i take the clones from the top or bottom?
how much light is required?
i figure i have a cabinet thats about 26" wide 15" deep and
about 30" tall that ive already got mylar on... how long would
clones be able to stay in a cabinet like that? hopefully long
enough as it takes their mom to finish blooming?!?!?
thanks.
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
its depends on how long you can
keep your clones, probably under 20"
in that cabinet and you'll be fine. Thats
at the most two months before they
need to be put into the C-13.
Remember they only grow as fast as the
growth conditions allow them. Different
strains/phenotypes will give you size variations
within the first month or so of veg as well.
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
well i got this cool tube setup today... its a 4 tube 2 foot T5. its
small and fits directly covering this plug tray i got with a top for
humidity... im going to take some clones tonight when my girl
comes out of the dark. im going to be using organo plugs as a
medium while they are rooting. ive got my cutting solution and
my xacto knife shined up... hopefully i dont kill everything.
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
i took 6 clones yesterday... but they are just lying limp in
their organo plugs...
how much water should i be using? ive misted the lid and
the plants, and watered the plugs... plus there is some water
in the reservoir, but not enough to reach the bottom of the
plugs...
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
stewie420 - pick up some anit-wilt spray and coat your cutting with it. That will keep them from drying out and give them a chance to root.
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
are you keeping them (your clones) under light 24/7 or something less?
They should be exposed to light 24/7 right now.
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
first off... they are indeed under 24/7 light...
8000 lumens of it!!! i asked about the anti
wilt stuff since i saw it in zandors cloning 101
article... the guys at the shop said theyve like
sold 2 bottles of the stuff ever and i probably
could get by without it...
my clones are kinda wimpy so i might just go
back and get it anyhow...
first pic is that boy who looks like he is flowering...
second pic is of the cuttings yesterday...
third pic of of the cuttings in their new home just now...
originally i had a lid that was only like an inch tall and
some of the clones were literally already pushed up
against it so i exchanged it...
ive got the plugs watered, about a centimeter of water
left in the reservoir and ive been misting the lid every
time it drys up...
hows that sound/look ???
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
Hey bro, those clones are starting to take off !!!
I give them a week before you see noticable growth.
Sorry didn't see where you said what the light situation
was for the clones.
That lime green looks like the newer gorwth.
What I would do is take a pic a couple days
down the road and do a size comparison.
Seems like you got it under control.
I've always thought that a good powder or gel
rooting hormone does a great job to get MJ
clones uderway, IMO. peace.
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
thanks for the comments... the only thing about these clones
is that in the time im asleep and the time im at work the
misting in the lid drys up... so there is some time where there
isnt as much humidity in the dome... all and all they seem to
be in at least ok shape... no noticable death yet... ill just keep
as close an eye as possible on them...
the light setup is 4 24" T5 bulbs supposedly putting out 8000
lumens... 24/7...

Iā??m sorry the guy at your hydro shop is a moron and his customers are not informed of the true benefit of Anti-Wilt. Itā??s only because this guy is a moron is why more people donā??t use it. Or the fact he makes more money selling domes.
Humidity domes are so 70ā??s growing dude but hey good luck.
Next time around build your self a good Aero-Cloner and don't waist any more time with plugs for clones.
Save them for seedlings.

OUCH!!! they are nice people to deal with... please... certianly my
dome is a better setup than some of the saran wrapped clones in
solo plastic cups i see posted...
he didnt even charge me for the dome... in fact he only really
charges me for the major stuff, like lights and ferts...
i respect you and your knowlege zandor, which is why aside from
stopping at the hydro shop i like to stop here and read up and
ask questions...
this is all a learning experience for me, and like i said i know about
the anti wilt and do accept it as the proper procedure for clones maybe
i just wanted to give this a try before i drop another 30 bucks on
the stuff after i just dropped the cash on the light and the dome and
the rooting gel... they look healthy honestly, and if they take a little
longer to root than thats ok, since ive got other plants in my C13 at
the moment.
the plant im cloning is my first female and honestly a very wimpy
plant that never grew right after the poison tap water made her
sick... so in the future when i have better clones to work with and
more experience i will start complicating things... right now im just
kinda curious as to how this all happens...
all but one of the clones is hardly wilted any longer and the one that
is, is about the chinciest clone ever... i just knew it wouldnt be able
to support any real bud and i wanted a nice round number of clones
so i figured what the heck...
as for the plugs... why arent they good for clones?
and its funny you mentioned seedlings... cause i was in fact
going to ask if for my next seed grow if i could put them in
the plugs because they are quite nifty and probably would
be an easier way to get things started than to have all these
pots wasting space in a small cabinet...
so the dome might be 70's... but is it not going to work?
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
um... most of my clones leaves are turning brown now...
can i help them?
-
would this be a good light setup for a C13
your set-up is perfect I wouldn't change how you clone
or anything, just keep working on keep those gals
healthy and happy :).
IMO
peace

just for the hell of it... here is a pic of my only female...
ive had 2 confirmed males and just this one girl...
shes called "transplant"
