Tolerance: The biggest bitch ever
As everyone well knows with extended use and enjoyment of THC (marijuana, pot, hash, cannabis, etc.) every human develops a tolerance to the feeling of being high. As this might be untrue with some lucky individuals, the majority of us started to develop a tolerance at the time when we started to smoke more. Now, the reason I made this post is because I wanted to see if other people have similar issues with tolerance. When I first smoked pot, I became so high and it was so unfamiliar to me I didnt really enjoy myself. I was definitely aware of what was going on but pot was the first drug I've ever done so I had no other experiences with anything to prepare me for my first time smoking. After the first two bowls I was still not feeling anything, then I took one huge hit and everything was a bit off. I found myself producing normal thoughts which would wander off and become more random and creative, then I would find myself staring at some random object in a daze not realizing I had gone so off topic with my thinking and I would snap to and not really think anything of it. Then all of the sudden I started seeing everything I was seeing in a different perspective, like there were two of me; one was the person talking and interacting with my sister while I continued to smoke pot, the person whos life I was watching like a movie. Then the other "me" was watching my life through what seemed to be a TV screen really close up to my eyes so I couldnt see the edges of it. Ive heard other people describe this amazing feeling, but never exactly the way I felt it. After that first time I was hooked. I smoked again 3 days later, then a month after that, then 2 weeks, etc, not anything consistent just whenever my sister had some and was feeling generous because at this point none of my friends had ever smoekd and I was too afraid that they'd discriminate against me if I told them I had tried it.
Then one magical day at school I overheard a close friend of mine talking quietly to one of his friends about smoke hurting his throat. I got excited because I knew what they were talking about, and by the tone of his voice and his attitude I could tell he didnt want to tell alot of people so he was probably feeling the same way I was. I confided in him, told him that I had smoked, and it was great. The next day I was invited by my friend to go to his friends house where a small get together of about 10 people was going on. Once I got there it was a normal hang out sesh, kind of boring, then the parents left and out came a device I had never heard of or seen before: a vaporizer. After this day I asked my sister how much pot would cost(hahaha) and bought my first 8th and from then on its pretty much been an every day thing atleast twice. Smoking has become part of my lifestyle and I love it, but after a few weeks of smoking regularly I noticed it was taking more and more to get me high until it got to the point where I wouldnt really even get high anymore. I took occasional breaks here and there, mostly only because I didnt have any pot. But now its been over a year since I started smoking consistently and my tolerance seems to be so high its ridiculous. Heres the thing, even when I get high, I'm never really GONE like I used to be. Ill feel buzzed or light headed or like everythings vibrating, but it either dies right away or goes away after 30mins. All my friends on the other hand who have been smoking as long as me if not longer never express the dissapointment I do when they smoke, they seem to get really stoned still. Its kind of annoying when your friends are more fucked up than you are and its your nugg, and there tolerances never seem to raise. Is there anything I can do other than taking breaks to lower my tolerance? Are any of you at the point Im at and still smoking, or should I take a reasonable break and just not get back on such a regular schedule?
Any replies are appreciated!

i used to smoke everyday like you, and to be honest in my experience it can become a boring hobby thats bad for yer health. the only way to lower your tolerence is to cut your use down. start by taking a couple of week break, when when you start smoking again keep it to the week ends, firstly because its easier on your health and bank balance, and secondly because you will genuinly look forward to getting stoned.

i know what your talking about, for me beign high just starts to lose its appeal, your no longer as out of it, you come to much quicker, whenever i start to feel that, i just take a 3 day break, and cut down after that, you just gotta fund the balance where you can get high as much as you want without it becoming boring or developing a high tolerance

You could try smoking sativa/indica on alternate days, helps some.

take a longer break... i know itll be hard but u can do it... do it for elian!!!

I have a low, low tolerance. Always have and probably always will. I love it because I smoke easily 1/3 what other people do to get fucked. Saves cash $$$ and thats always a good thing.

some advice: buy better weed, and smoke less often.
Taking a break for a while makes the first time back feel a lot like the first time!

He said it... also... if you get bored with herb... quit... more for me
try what i do... have sober periods of your day... don't just stay high. to me staying high is a bit of a waste because you can't tell or appreciate 100% of the new incoming thc... wake and bake, then sober up for a few hours before smoking, then do the same... if you smoke before bed, only take a hit or two, enough to allow you to sleep....
or you could quit for a month, save your money, buy a qp and get thrown all over again
BTW my birthday happens to fall on one of the cannabis cup days, so for my b-day i am going to spend a week and a half in amsterdam... Most of my friends keep tellin me on how i won't be able to hang, and how after just a few hits i will be comatose..... well i am going to try and not smoke for a whole month prior to the trip so my tolerance is so low i KNOW i will get smashed... BTW i have my judges pass.... do you?

Fuking hell, another essay, oh well, yeh, I agree just limit urself, u do feel the effects more if u don't do it so often. I have a rule, never smoke b4 7pm, that way u can't smoke too much and u keep ur tolerence fairly low. Not many ppl I know can keep to that rule but it works for me and a couple of my m8s. L8rs

yea, and now school is starting so there will be a slight intake in my cash flow due to my mom giving me money for food at school and i take ADD meds so im never hungry till after school, so free money! if i take an extended break now, by the time I come back my plant will be done and I'll have tons of cash. good suggestions! Ill see how well my will power holds out against the odds of going to the #1 drug problem school in my county. thanks to everyone who replied! i also might try working out every now and then, i think the fact that your burining off old THC stores in your fat may help your body lower its tolerance since theres less in you.

Man, I feel your pain, and can really relate to what you are saying.
I??ve been smoking since I was about 15, but not really regularly since about a year ago. I remember my first time; I smoked under a bridge with a bunch of my friends. It was funny because it seemed to take a long time to take effect. Not knowing what to expect, I kept telling my friend ??I don??t feel anything yet? and he just said that everyone says that their first time. It hit me really gradually, but before I knew it I was laughing and having an awesome time. I remember that it was a long walk home, and I usually HATE walking long distances, but it felt like I could have walked forever. Other times I got so stoned off like one hit that it was almost scary, like I??d worry constantly that I was looking like an idiot due to my being so stoned. I also remember trying to drive back when I was still smoking off and on. It was pretty crazy. I??d be all paranoid and like seeing shit in the street that wasn??t really there (not like seeing shit but like there would be a glare and I??d react like I thought it was an animal in the road and shit). I also remember that whenever I smoked I used to get the munchies soooo fucking bad that being so hungry just about ruined the experience ?? and of course eating something seems to get me sober quickly, so it sucked.
It was pretty cool once I started buying my own shit. I??d just buy small sacks at first, but like even just taking a resin hit on my pipe was enough to get me high. Still, I was making like 3 runs to the kitchen at night to get food even though I knew I wasn??t really hungry. I also remember that each time I smoked it would seem like I was the highest I??d ever been.
It was a slow transition, but after a while I started to not get as high anymore. While I didn??t get as high anymore, it also felt kinda like I was a little bit high all the time. Even if I stopped smoking I??d still feel a little high for like a whole day, and not really fully back to ??normal? for several days. I wouldn??t feel really high, but just a tiny bit different. I also noticed that a lot of the shitty side effects like getting the munchies all the time started to go away. I??d chow down my meals with the quickness but I wouldn??t get hungry every time I smoked anymore. I also noticed that it seemed like I??d feel the effects a lot faster. I??d take a hit, hold it in, and it was an almost instant feeling in my lungs and in my head of like a slight tingling. So while I wasn??t getting totally owned every time I smoked anymore, it became something a lot more manageable. I could drive without any problems, I could talk to people without worrying that I was acting like an idiot, my eyes stopped getting red unless I really smoked a TON, and overall it just kinda changed from something of a roller-coaster ride to something much more mellow yet still very enjoyable.
I??d defiantly say that smoking first thing in the morning is the best. Your brain is like ??fresh? when you wake up and that first hit is pure bliss. It starts the day off on the right foot. Other than that, I noticed that I??d get a lot higher after I exercised. Run a mile or more on a treadmill then wait an hour or so and smoke a fat bowl. But for me at least, trying to regulate it is a bitch. If I got in the mood to smoke, and I knew I had some, it??s really hard for me to not smoke it. Also, every time I smoke a lot then stop, I get some annoying little withdrawal effects. Nothing major but it would be harder to go to sleep and it seemed like I was in a lot more of a bitchy mood.
But meh, I still get knocked on my ass if I take a fat hit after being out for a week or more. I also notice that a lot of the side effects like the munchies come back that first time also. Honestly, I think I??d rather just keep smoking with my tolerance built up. Like I said before it??s no roller coaster ride, but overall I??d say I like life a lot better when I??m high all the time. I don??t know that I could smoke daily if I was getting totally stoned every time. Also it is kinda nice to have more control over yourself while your nub friends all get totally fucked because they have no tolerance. And finally, if I smoke an average amount on a regular basis, but for whatever reason feel the need to get totally stoned, I can always just do a quick binge like a few huge bong rips and it does the desired effect quite nicely.

what school do you go to? idk what my school is rated but there is a lot of drugs.
Tolerance: The biggest bitch ever
I pretty much have to smoke like a .6G - .7G joint to myself to get high nowadays...so that's what i do!
So my advice..stay ahead of your tolerance..smoke more!
Tolerance: The biggest bitch ever
i like controlled highs better becuase when i get all fucked up i chain smoke and the next day i dont have any smokes and thats a bitch.....
Tolerance: The biggest bitch ever
there were times when i noticed that i would smoke, but didnt really feel high. and if i smoke when im already high, sometimes i dont feel any higher, but my tolerance is still pretty low. smoke a joint of mids and im feeling good, as well as a bowl of kb. my tolerance has raised a little, but not to the point that it takes me alot to get high. once that happens, i'll take a break though.

This whole thread is funny, it has been scientifically proven that you're body doesn't build up a tolerance to marijuana. I think the problem is when other drugs get involved, your perception is distorted.

wheres the proof of this? I was under the impression that it did, and my experience definately points towards that. I remember the glory days when me and my friends could all get sky high for a whole night off a ten bag.

To be precise, according to the Office of Technological Assessment (OTA): "The capacity to produce reinforcing effects is essential to any drug with significant abuse potential." Marijuana should no longer be considered a serious drug abuse because, as summarized by the OTA: "Animals will not self-administer THC in controlled studies . . . . Cannabinoids generally do not lower the threshold needed to get animals to self-stimulate the brain regard system, as do other drugs of abuse." Marijuana does not produce reinforcing effects. The definitive experiment which measures drug-induced dopamine production utilizes microdialysis is live, freely-moving rats. Brain microdialysis has proven that opiates, cocaine, amphetamines, nicotine and alcohol all affect dopamine production, whereas marijuana does not. This latest research confirms and explains Hollister's 1986 conclusion about cannabis and addiction: "Physical dependence is rarely encountered in the usual patterns, despite some degree of tolerance that may develop." Most important, the discoveries of Howlett and Devane, Herkenham and their associates demonstrate that the cannabinoid receptors do not influence the dopamine reward system.
