HARDDON's FIRST SOG

Ok gang...cunt and whore are being cured...the good old fashioned way....

Here is my first SOG attempt. I am not 100% complete. Still need to add foil to boxes....

I planted these seeds I think yes...on Monday.

This morning some had popped out much to my dismay....I was kinda liking not haveing to worry about some frickin plants for at least a week..... :(

I didnt expect some to pop so fast so already I have problems :( one of the hazards of soil germination....

Any, I intend to do the following this grow........

SOG, or sea of green....

This is a small version of the popular quick grow-harvest for people who have height or space problems like I have. I only can grow in a 3.75 sq. place, which is really only good for one plant.

I intend to use the SOG method to produce literally a sea of green plants that are small, compact and stays low.

25 plants vegged for a quick 21 day period....
Force flower, remove the males....
Have 18 good female main kolas at 1/4 oz each...
HARVEST Halloween night....

Also I am going to test my prehistoric dinosaur water.
Also I am going to test softened tap water.
Also I am going to test RO only water.
Also I am going to test inclusion of rooting hormones in water during veg. with and without.
Also I am going to test superthrive with and without.

My lighting is 3 55W 5500K CFLs....(gotta find where i put the 3rd one..stoned again...)
My lighting includes 2 125W 6500K CFLs...

I have some blueberry, blueberry X strawberry cough, white widow, and blueberry X jack herrer....

Also I included some bag seed that I got from some worthy smoke here and there....

About 7 or 25% have germinated in 3 days...the rest will germinate in the next four. I allowed two of the white widows to dry out under the lights like an asshole. I have watered and we shall see if they make it.

I also show one pic of the top of the grow chamber. I am very very fond of reflection and light containment. I see many growers neglect the light that escapes the top of the canopy.

Reflectors are a popular way to correct this but I dont like the radiant heat they create.

Kool tubes are a great way to use a reflector without the heat issue...but it will hamper UV-B distribution.

I prefer a good old fashioned WHITE board made with a white laminate side for use with the lights. It diffuses the light without creating radiant heat and creates a very friendly reflection level.

I took this pic without the flash to show how dark it can be using a white reflective top surface. I would rather have the light on the plants than on the ceiling.

At the top right is my forced exhaust driven by a 6" Vortex Filter system.

Below is the flower chamber but its not done yet.

Fuck i gotta do all this, troll for tits pics, paint the ceiling, go look at a new house ding bat wants and actually do some real work.

Did you soak the seeds for a day or just put'em straight in dirt?

the setup looks rather impressive.....i guess what you're after is 2 oz per sqft of space...if so, then theoretically i should be able to achieve that as well, right?
i have started my grow on hydro and plan more or less to create a sea of green as well...my babies are like a week old from seed, 23 in total, 3 different strains all indica dominants (Babilonia,Crystal,Papaya), all good for SOG.....they are already under the 400watt HPS and placed on the rockwool cubes on the board....there is no problem with the headspace but i've set a limit of 6ft tall to hang the lights from.....i will add a second 400 watt in there for flowering...i expect to harvest all of them around the 28th of October...when is heloween?
i used cellmax rootbooster and still do (it is recommended to use during rooting and the first week of vegetation), so far from what i see and can tell is that this product makes wonders...i've never seen seeds sprouting so fast in my life (not that i've sprouted many).....i mean the seeds all cracked within one day but 2 which sprouted 2 days later but had to be thrown away......
anyway what has also happened is that my 23 babies are all unmarked and mixed up again....do not know which is which exactly.....this is going to be a funny grow.....


and you are setting like the minimum yield for my grow (in a way)

i wonder if you ''catch'' my drift.....i guess you do....here it is, if everything turns out right, in the end i should get at least 24 oz of dry Buds@10% of humidity....i guess that means that they whould have to be real crispy and break when touched i suppose.......you really inspire me man :D

Of course he will transplant before flowering,and maybe 2litre pepsi bottles would be best,you can fit several in a square foot,and plenty of root room for the entire grow stage in flowering! just something to think The bottle may not be big on the round but has a decent length to it even with the top cut off!,almost like a plant in a tube instead of a pot lol...good luck Harddon,look forward to checking out your updates...

I am not entering this grow with the certainty of repotting.

If I absolutely must, I will.

But, I dont believe that big roots equate to big buds. I believe I can bottom feed and keep the roots in control.

But I dont think I will.

This morning, 8 more popped their head out of earth and I threw them under the lights.

So far 15 have popped out.

NOt one White Widow has sprung yet....

Si I took one container and dug around a bit, very carefully of course and found the seed and it has not even cracked yet.

That concerns me deeply...although it can take a full 7 days to germ, instead of 4 or 5.

Will update as progress dictates.

Don't feel bad I'm on day 5-6 with my bb x jh and the seeds have just barely busted...
looks like this is going to be a long slow grow...I might just veg'em big enough to flower and clone to protect the strain, especially since I am not going to be ordering seeds for awhil...at least not from CanCan

Are they ordinary pots or self watering/feeding pots?
How long are you leaving ya lights on for?
Which germination method did you use?

I am going to start a SOG setup in my very well insulated side loft. (theres a secret door behind my t.v. set in my bedroom leading to a side loft :D no one will ever know :P)

Well I got home today and 3 more had poked thru the earth.

They are under lights now.

Soil is PRO MIX in half and Ferti-Lome in the other half.

Both very rich and airy.........

Damn.you make me want to do that too!!! Isn't that the fun of growing, every 3 months you can do a NEW experiment??? and get stoned in the process...

Do you think i could mix mg soil with normal germination soil in 1 pot? (bottum 3/4 mg soil top 1/4 germination soil)??

Did you soke your seeds in water for 24hours beffor putting them in the soil to leave in the dark till they sprout?

r u gonna leave em in the same containers they r in now? 4 the whole grow?im thinkin off veg 60 days is that 2 long?

Two more popped out tonight.

Though they are barely outta soil...infact their hooks have not even emerged, I have them under lights.

As soon as you see it, it is able to see light...thus they are ready.....

RED...it is my objective to leave them in the same container.

60 days veg is not too long..but then you are not truly growing a SOG.

SOG is designed for quick veg and flower. 60 days the plants would be three feet tall...maybe four....and you have multiple kolas all over the place and hence not a SOG grow.

With a 60 day veg, you are looking at approx. 120 days....
A SOG grow should be no more than 81......give or take....

FOr all intents and purposed, the grow day count will commence on this coming Monday the 15 of August morning as day 1.

By then all seed that sprought will have and the grow commences.

Still no White Widows.

I give them til sunday to sprout.

MOsaka....anything that has the Miracle Grow name on it has no business in an MJ grow...period.

I am not sure what 'germination' soil is so I cant advise on that.

I do not soak my seeds prior to germ....there is no need as far as I am concerned. I like to place in soil 1/4" deep and loosely fill the hole and water every other day or so...just a dropper filled with water right on top of the seeded hole.

Light is not detrimental to germinating as long as it doesnt dry out the seed.

I lean towards hydro, more than potted medium, that is why I Germinate, besides I've never had a problem getting the little bastards to pop open...It was keeping them alive that always stumped me until the last year, when i got serious...remember

i am setting up my growroom 2day...nearly finished. it lookes a bit like yours, only with 10 plants, (havnt yet set the to germinate) strain - master kush. i was told they stay low.I am going to give them 2 x 100 watt compact flourescents. 1 cool white, 1, warm white. Do you think tht will do?

OK here is the updated status....

25 seed planted...
21 sprouted.....

ALL seeds sprouted except for the WHITE WIDOWS :(

And damn, i was looking forward to that so much.

The widow seeds were obviously bad. Even though they passed my crunch test, they failed to sprout.

THat tells me mold had probably infected the host bud(s) and thus the zero germ rate from this batch.

If mold had infected your bud, don;t sell the fucking seeds. :)

Moving on...

Here is Now DAY 1 of the SOG grow....my Sea of Green will be 4 plants short, so already now I am behind in the game.

LESSON #1..... plant more seeds than you need. :)

See, no matter how good you germ, a bad seed lot can fuck up your dreams :)

We'll see what lesson number 2 is when I learn that...the HARD way...lol....

Good question MB....

I am going for 21 days. Irrelevant of plant height.

A true SOG is just that....a quick in and out. Also, if I veg any longer. root bound will be a problem and I dont want to deal with that.

I want these to grow and flower in the same container.

I couldnt find my other 55W CFL, (damn I hid that sucker well I guess), so I went ahead and installed another 125W CFL.

So now I am veggin with:

3 125W
2 55W

For a total of 485W of CFL's......

I have sectored off the 3 different studies I wanna do here....

simplified it a bit since I have 4 less plants to study than I wanted to.

I am testing:

dinosaur water w/superthrive
RO water w/root hormones w/superthrive
RO water w/o superthrive

Future grows will need to be done to study the results of some of the other items I wanted to test, but this will give me tons of info and insight into what works best and then I can build and share from there.

Harddon, I am well impressed by your setup. Just 1 question - is that foil you are using?

The walls of my chamber are covered in reflective yet insulated thermal water heater blanket. When building the unit I was scared to death of a fire and wanted some protection in case one of the HID bulbs blew on me.

As for the containers......some are wrapped in the same thermal blanket and some are indeed wrapped in aluminum foil.

are you leaving your lites on 18/6? what kind of cfl are they? full spectrum?

you seem to have lost the meaning of SOG, clones, not individual plants from seed.
you have quite a set up there, but your plants will outgrow the space quickly during veg.
ya see, a single stemmed clone, single cola, is the mainstay of SOG, individual plants from seed will have many branches which will fill your space faster than you can keep em pruned up.
this is just my opinion, but if you want to do a sog seedplant grow, you need to start the force flower period near the 3rd week or they will over grow your space and give you a tsunami grow
just my opinion, but who listens to an old grower, smoker
all in all, i would love to see you succeed in this and prove my growing experience wrong.

I go 18/6 and yes all lights are full spectrum....

the 2 curly cues are 55W 5500K and the 3 long lights are 125W 6500K.

For you floro users, they are the best money can buy and the best fer yer herbs :)

I appreciate your input. I do realize what you are saying about the potential for mass chaos in the veg state.

However, if you read my initial posts in this thread, I clearly state that I intend to do a 21 day veg then force flower.

I also reiterated the 21 days veg period a couple of other times in this thread.

Again, I appreciate your knowledge and experience in this endeavor and any advce you have is greatly appreciated.
